We Are Not The Same

By Andrea CummingsPublished 3 years ago 5 min read

No one can hear you scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say, but Timberly Evans knew that her daughter Ashlyn did, as she felt her daughters heart wrenching cries reaching her ears and heart. As the mother travelled rapidly through the wormhole of light, memories sped past her, sucking her into an unknown dimension. Timi, as her family called her, was enveloped with the joy and pain of her life, as well as her ancestors. Some were sweet and beautiful memories, while some were very dark and painful, each meshing together to make a patchwork life that was her own. Cradled in the warm light, Timi allowed each memory that begged to reawaken enter her conscious, as she relived each moment as if it had just occurred. The first was one that she had not personally, but Timi wondered was it perhaps of a former life, or maybe the first piece of the puzzle in the mystery of her family’s ancestral secret.

Timi found herself outside a shack of a slave plantation, where a bright light engulfed the small building. The silence surrounding the grounds was eerie, and no one was anywhere to be found. Timi scanned the area for signs of life, wondering why no one else was coming to investigate, as she feared to to do so herself. Apprehensively, she moved in closer, but her feet dug into the ground twenty feet away, allowing her no further passage. Suddenly, the young woman was bewitched by a single bright beam that entered through the roof. Inside the parameters, a young, sleeping, pregnant, slave woman was lifted by its hold- still only Timi witnessed this miraculous moment. In a matter of moments, the beam and dome of light dissipated, bringing back the sounds and energy of the nightlife that was previously absent. As Timi’s feet reawakened, she began to run to the door of the shack to warn any other occupants of the event that had transpired, but as quickly as she ran, the young woman was quickly taken back to the glow of the wormhole.

Inside “The Glow”, Timi heard her mother’s voice. As she looked at the memories flying by, one leapt into her body and transferred her to her childhood bedroom, where her six-year-old self was being told a bedtime story by her young mother.

“You will not believe this,” the mother began, “But we are truly not of this world. Our African ancestors were sold to a slave owner, whose property was said to be a magnet for extraterrestrial life. One night, a young, pregnant woman by the name of Timbei was taken in the night, transported by a bright warm beam to another world of indescribable beauty. The next morning when Timbei awoke, she was back in her bed safe and sound. Outwardly, it appeared that she was unharmed and whole, but Timbei had become hypersensitive to sound, vibrations and light. The young girl leapt out of bed to tell her mother what had happened and what she saw, but her voice would not betray the extraterrestrial secret, so her lips were bound, locking away the secret of that night…” the mother’s voice soothed as it trailed off- the light taking Timi to another moment of her childhood, her mother’s forty-second birthday.

Timi looked around her childhood home, the same one that her and her daughter still lived in. As she saw her seventeen-year-old self, the woman was struck with overwhelming emotion- this was the night her mother disappeared.

“My darling, tonight is the night that I have long since prepared you for. I will be called back to wherever the women of our family go on this momentous age of our lives. I do not know what will be there, or what awaits me, but if our history has told me anything, it is that we will meet again. You will soon be eighteen, and even though I will not be here, you will be taken care of financially until you can do so for yourself. Your college education has been allotted and the home that we live in is paid for. You are the only one left, so you will have to brave this world’s highways alone. Your father died before you were born and his family never accepted you, so any knowledge of them proves irrelevant at this point. You are going to be stronger than you think Timi, and wiser beyond girl’s your age. Even though there are so many questions, I feel that I will find all the answers when I get to the destination. I wish I could tell you what I see, but I promise if there is a way, I will tell you the universe’s secrets- just look for me in the stars.” Timi’s mother said- her lovely and familiar voice stated as it trailed off again.

The young woman felt that each memory was holding more questions than answers, until she was taken to one that she had forgotten- the night that she was first taken, when she was pregnant with her own daughter. Timi stood silent in her bedroom, observing her older sleeping self, fully pregnant, and resting peacefully. A bright glow emersed the room and startled her sleeping self, awake, and forced her into an upright seated position. As a beam of light pierced the ceiling, it made her pregnant self, levitate. Instinctively, Timi reached out to grab the memory, but instead her consciousness was absorbed – making the two into one. This beam was different from the glow, and shortly after, Timi found herself surrounded by human looking beings immersed in a beautiful calming light.

“She is awake.” A female voice said, only her mouth did not move, the woman was communicating telepathically.

“I don’t understand.” A male voice intervened. “She should still be sedated. When the transport beam touched her, she should have been made unconscious until she was taken back. We still have to exam the baby, and “The Knowing” is not supposed to occur until she the age of forty-two. Were our calculations incorrect?” The male asked.

“No, it just means that with each generation that is being brought to life, we are one step closer to creating a life form that is the perfect combination of both our and their world. If my theory is correct, then this one is carrying the child who will be born self-aware of it’s true origins and can begin to populate that realm with our kind. After their planet has been diluted, we can then return to reclaim the planet that once was ours, this is a joyous day indeed.” The female being said with great delight. As the being touched Timi, she was taken aback and looked the young woman in her eyes.

“Oh my, you don’t belong here do you. You were in the Hall of Memories and somehow found yourself entwined into one. No, my dear you do not belong here- but fear not and be gladdened that your offspring will be the mother of great creation. She will no longer have to be alone; it will be the time of “The multiples”, and your lineage can now continue on your planet. Do you remember the last conversation you had with her? When you were explaining to her what you knew in your heart? Do you remember her last words when she knowingly looked at you and told you, “I already know mom, when it comes to us and them, we are not the same.”

“Your daughter is “The One”, and though it will be many years before you meet again, she is the beacon that will bring us home. Now let’s get you back to where you belong, your mother and ancestors have been waiting for you.”
