Solitary Hearts
Climbing over the rubble, Sarah took a moment to look up at the gray sky. Ever since the Event, the sky had been gray, even when the sun managed to shine through like it was today. At least the air was somewhat clear and breathable rather than being choked with dust. As she drew nearer the heart of the city, the dust would get worse. Unfortunately, she needed to enter the city to scrounge up more supplies, if she could find them.

The Specter Gem Chronicles
Where did the world go wrong? The question me and Monty have found each other asking multiple times. Other questions included: Did we deserve this torment? Where are Mom & Dad? Do we have any other choices instead of living in the apocalypse? WHAT CAUSED ALL THIS? And to that I say: We don’t know how it happened. But this is our normal now, constantly running in fear from all sorts of dead things, demons and such. Monty says it’s ghosts, but I know it’s demons.

"Three Little Pigs"
I remembered sitting on my bed watching the Winx Club. It was my favorite show. I should have been doing my homework that evening, but I decided that watching tv and scrambling my brains from cringe 2013 commercials were more important than my reading assignment. My mom came into my room and asked me if I finished my homework. I nodded and smile. I lied of course. Then, she said "Let me see." Dang it! I thought she was going to leave me alone in my little world, but I couldn't get out of this one. I showed her my reading assignment. It was a questionnaire about the story of the Three Little Pigs by James Marshall. My mom flipped the singular empty page on both sides and created a flickering sound.

When We All Forgot
What if I told you that a war across the entire world would happen; but it wouldn’t be like how the movies and books depicted it? I mean sure, the sickness, famine, droughts, destruction and death all happened...but even with all of that, nothing compared to the great loss that was truly suffered. See after all of that, the bombs came (so far it sounds like any other post-Apocalyptic story, right?); but it’s what happened after the bombs that made it so much worse.

The Fate on Wrist
“Tibetan fox is now officially extinct” At that moment, everything in Melissa’s life seemed to have stopped. Her hazel eyes were fixated on the TV. But there wasn’t a single thought in her mind. She looked pale even through her already fair skin. Everything around her seemed to have stopped. Everything was dark. The phrase that just came from the TV repeated itself in her mind. The time seemed to slow down and she sat there drowning in the ever-growing feeling of disbelief. The feeling of being lost in life. The doubts in choices she made in life. All the regretful decisions she has made in her life continuously re-playing in her mind. When were they all supposed to end if she was immortal?

The Experiment
The Experiment By Jordan Setayesh Roman sat quietly across the table from his supervisor, Dr. Walker, the director of human and social sciences of the Fourth Ward, as he looked over Roman’s latest publication. The paper was the culmination of five precious months of work exploring the impact of physical reprimands on adolescent cognitive development. It was not his first choice of a project, as he was not a naturally violent person; however, according to his career coach assigned to him by The Institute, this topic was his best chance at being promoted to the 5th Ward, where the highest level experiments were undertaken.

Gamma Knife
I begin this diary as a way to process my emotions and provide some context for any readers who might come across this after my death. I am writing this on stone paper. Anything digital is out because I don’t want this memoir to be deleted like my family was.

Of Flesh and Steel
Vivian picked through the rubble of an old decrepit building. She came across something unique under the rubble, a stainless steel trapdoor with a keypad indented in the floor next to it. She'd heard about such doors and the treasures that could be found within. She started clearing the rubble excitedly to uncover the rest of the door and her heart sank. There was a giant hole in the center of the door. Sighing to herself she pulled out her sun light and shined it into the hole.
