She woke up in a cold sweat again, stress and premature hormonal imbalance ravaging her body as if in a nightmare.

“Is it over?” she asked, to no one in particular.

No answer.

This time, she slept deeply. When she woke, soft dawn light blanketed the room. She couldn’t remember checking into a hotel this nice.

Across the room, the mirror showed a late twenty-something with tousled brown hair.

A woman.

It had been a long night. In the corner, a Jansport backpack, packed with textbooks.

She slung it over her shoulder and stepped out into the daylight.
