Kismet

answering destiny's call (Epic Beginnings Challenge)

By Savannah K. WilsonPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Brett was sitting on the old and worn couch in his apartment, drinking a cup of tea from his favourite mug, a Jurassic Park logo with “Tea-Rex” across it. The news was the normal cycle of garbage; wars that shouldn’t be happening, terrifying politicians somehow still with a chance, domestic violence on the rise, and then coverage of a teen girl becoming viral for doing something suggestive in an online interview … which seems about right for the world now.

How good would it be to actually have the power to do something of real value in this world?

Lost in his thoughts he nearly missed the breaking news as it flashed on the screen - a young woman had pulled a man onto the tracks in the subway, the train hit them both before it could slow down, the level of blurring on the screen told Brett that it wasn’t a pretty sight at all.

Brett felt a wave of emotion run through him, he stood but didn’t feel his feet plant on the ground. What? He looked down to discover he was floating a few inches above the old wooden floor. Thinking of moving to the kitchen, he found he floated effortlessly across his apartment, Brett let out a loud and gleeful laugh as he pulled open his fridge door.

CRASH!

The door flew off the fridge and flung across the room, Brett found he not only seemed to be able to fly, well at least float. But now possessed super strength too. An idea sprung to mind. He very carefully pulled out his phone and called his friend, Roza, a costume designer ...

The news bulletin the following week was flooded with images, videos, and reports about the amazing feats of the city’s new found saviour, Kismet.

XD Haha! I hope he doesn't break anything in the apartment. I don't think the landlord'll care he's a superhero now.

  • The woman who pulled the man onto the tracks, did she wanna kill herself and him? Oooo, I wonder how Brett got his powers suddenly
