The boy's house was unlocked. “Mom?” he shouted and entered. “In the kitchen, baby.”
Something was wrong. Her voice was foreign yet familiar, like a flickering memory.
He journeyed towards the kitchen, past the toppled chairs, around the shattered glass, and over the puddle of red. When he found her, he paled.
This was not the mother who had raised him, but the one who had given him up.
She beamed and explained, “I’ve wanted to tell you I've missed you for so long, but she never let me...Now, tell your real Mommy you've missed her too.”
