James Future

Chapter 1

By David WidenerPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

The grey sky was full of ash and despair that day. On October 25, 2019, destruction peaked its ugly head out over the terrains of the Southern Lands as the metal beings marched across our fields. So, this is what time travel has come to?

A colossal tower, garmented in blue glass, stomped along with its army of soulless knights, crushing our soldiers. Their poor bodies flung in every direction like flies were swatted. Our end drew near.

"I can't bare to watch anymore, Father. Please, let us put an end to this while we still can."

"We can't go back too far, we'll drain the life force from the Time Keep."

"Then fuck the Time Keep! We're all about to die!"

Those were the last words James Future remembered saying before . awakening from a four-hour slumber. "Again? How long has it been, Zeden?", he says to his other personality.

He turns around as if he were another person talking to himself, "Well the day is June 6, 2022, and still no sign of the One to Come."

"What is this One waiting on? What do they dream about?" He scratches his head.

"It sure does beat me. Random things, it seems. Random people, sometimes. Always someone they never recognize."

"You can't even give me a pronoun of this person?" He gets up out of bed and turns his light on to reveal a light tan room, which resided in a house full of other residents. It appeared to be four in the morning, the same time he always wakes up. He looks at his checker-themed bed, thinking should he sleep some more.

Either way, it never mattered to Zeden, who bounces back and forth from one host to another. Not only does he do that, but he also takes on the host's appearance. James looked like a simple, young man who liked to take a surfboard to any ocean. Long, blonde hair drenched to his neck, and always looks wet.

He crosses to the nearest bathroom and looks himself into the mirror, and Zeden comes out. "That is strictly confidential. They're shy, it seems."

"Not around you they aren't. They can tell you all the little details EXCEPT what I need to know about them."

"Hey, I don't tell him anything you do, to be fair."

"Trust me when I say I think he would know by now." His gaze freezes in place in the mirror as he strokes his teeth with the brissle of a brush. Bright blue eyes were almost piercing to gaze upon. The tube which he used to keep tooth paste in said something about non-flouride. This made Zeden laugh. He spits and almost laughingly shouts, "What?"

"Great minds think alike, James."

"Hey." This is followed by a knock on the door.

"Yeah, I'm alright! Just brushing my teeth."

He opens the door to see his roommate, Cayden Li, looking at him kind of concerned. "Take your meds?"

"I'm going to, thanks for the reminder." Fuck, he hates the meds, they make him not be able to time travel. Also, Zeden spends more time with the other host whenever he does, making him feel more lonely.

"Don't you got work soon?"

"I do."

"You remind me of him."

"Who?"

"My ex-roommate. Great guy, he was just troubled. Went crazy one night in October 2019. Still a great guy, though!"

THERE'S THAT DATE AGAIN!

"Uh, thanks for letting me know, man. Anyway, I better get going." He crosses through the kitchen, the living room, and out the door to see his white car waiting on him.
