Intervention

earth gets some help

Henry was unknown to most; he didn't flout his power. He deliberately stayed out of minor skirmishes and wanted no celebrity or honors. His existence was solely for assistance to the Powers and as an enforcer in rare moments.

"Henry, I need to speak with you, " his sister Beulah whispered. He opened his eyes to her vision floating above.

"A Cherub is visiting me," Henry exclaimed, grinning, as he heard a soft tinkling like a distant wind chime. He and his sister Beulah are of the angelic race but on different tiers. Beulah became a record keeper; her enormous knowledge emanated from her aura, frightening to some beings.

"Brother, Earth is crumbling under the weight of human destruction. Oceans are choked with waste not naturally in the sea, and the trees struggle to detoxify the air."

"Yes, Beulah, I know. However, I am the hidden Archangel, remember? Most know nothing of me, so they can't believe in me."

"Belief is not what is needed. Your rest is over. Gather your helpers and push your power to scramble and cleanse the western ocean. Azariel will help cleanse the waters; then you will pass the mission to Zuriel, who oversees forests and all of nature."

He nodded solemnly, bowing to his sister, the higher-order angel. "I understand." Immediately, he was at the western ocean with hands raised, unseen by humans. The waves began to roll higher and higher until the sea was a roiling mass of skyscraper-height waves, undulating and crashing. As the water swirled, the waves threw waste out of the sea, sometimes landing miles inland. The roiling ocean destroyed some coastal areas, and container ships disappeared. Human legends said they went down in the Bermuda Triangle, yet how would that explain the South China Sea and Australian ships going off the radar?

Zuriel was blowing wind through forests all over Earth. The sea trash melted into the forest undergrowth, mixing with detritus. Ants and beetles broke it down, and moss attached itself, creating a luxurious bed for forest creatures.

Beulah felt immense relief for the trees. She saw their vital lungs inhaling and exhaling, gentle breezes flowing again with purified air. She scooped her hand through the deepest ocean trenches, feeling giant squid and whales caressing her hands. She withdrew her hand and saw it surrounded by a bluish-white aura, assuring Henry and Azariel that they had completed the mission.

Standing on the shore, Henry was centered in the shimmering purple, blue, white, pink, peach, and turquoise arch. The colors vibrated around and through him as he sent thanks to the heavens.

"All is well, Henry. Thank you for your dedication to the planet and all living beings. I love you."

Henry lifted his head from his prayers, sending a smile and making the infinity sign to his angel-sister.

Beautiful story, and quite creative. Just a question if I may ask, are you somehow related to Arlene Corwin? She's a poet on Facebook and I couldn't help but ask.
