Immortal Soul
Her soul was immortal, but she would never live again.
Emma had always been curious about life after death. She spent her nights reading ancient texts, researching legends of immortality. One evening, she found an old, leather-bound book in a forgotten corner of the library. The title read "The Immortal Soul."
Intrigued, she opened it. The pages were brittle, filled with cryptic symbols and strange diagrams. But one page stood out: a ritual for binding the soul to the body, making it live forever.
The instructions were simple. A black candle, a silver mirror, and a single drop of blood. Emma didn’t believe in magic, but the idea of never dying fascinated her. She gathered the items, set up the ritual in her dimly lit apartment, and recited the ancient words.
At first, nothing happened. She laughed at her own foolishness and blew out the candle. But as the smoke swirled in the air, she felt a strange chill. Her reflection in the mirror blinked—though she hadn’t.
Startled, she stepped back. Her reflection stayed in place, staring at her with cold, hollow eyes. Emma’s heart raced as her reflection smiled, a twisted grin spreading across its face.
"You called me," it whispered. "Now, I am free."
The mirror shattered, and a dark mist poured from the shards, wrapping around her. Emma gasped, trying to scream, but her voice was gone. She felt her soul being pulled, torn from her body. The shadowy figure took her place, slipping into her skin.
Emma’s body stood still, but she was no longer in control. Trapped in the shattered pieces of the mirror, she watched helplessly as her own body, now inhabited by something else, walked away into the night.
Her soul was immortal, but she would never live again.
