I'll Love you for A Thousand More
Part III: The worst morning

I have died every day waiting for you! Darling don't be afraid; I have loved you... For a thousand years.......... I'll love you for a thousand more
Amelia crumpled the letter in her trembling hands and thrust it into the bin, her heart aching as she turned to face Jaxon. Seeing him cry like a child shattered her resolve. Since their childhood, she had never seen him like this. He had always been the unshakable one, smiling even in the face of the worst tragedies. When Jaxon lost his family, he had smiled through the pain, pretending everything was okay. Every trouble, every loss—he masked it with a smile. But Amelia knew the truth: his smile was never for himself. It was for her. His only hope, his only light, had always been Amelia.
Now, all that composure was gone. Tears streamed down Jaxon's face as he clung to Amelia’s arm, his sobs raw and unrelenting. “A 10-year mission? It’s hell, Amelia!” he choked out, his voice breaking. He brushed his face against her arm, as though grounding himself in her presence.
Amelia’s own heart was breaking, but she forced herself to stay calm.
She gently placed her hand under Jaxon’s chin, lifting his face to meet hers. “Jaxon,” she said softly, “this isn’t the end. It’s not a big deal, okay? I’ll talk to Wendy tomorrow. Our policies say I can request someone else to take my place. Wendy’s young, she’s single, and she’ll understand. I’ll figure it out, I promise.”
But Jaxon’s teary eyes betrayed his disbelief. The words she spoke were like a fragile bandage on a gaping wound. He knew—deep down—that she was just trying to soothe him. “Don’t leave me, Am,” he whispered, his voice trembling. “Don’t leave me... I’ll die without you.”
That night, the house was silent. Not a word passed between them. The weight of the inevitable hung heavy in the air. Amelia lay beside Jaxon, but his back was turned to her. They both stared into the darkness, lost in their thoughts, neither daring to break the quiet.
The next morning, Amelia left early, determined to find Wendy. She clung to the fragile hope that her friend could help. When she reached Wendy’s house, she stood nervously at the doorstep and rang the bell. A wave of relief washed over her when the door opened, but the moment she saw Wendy’s expression, her hope began to unravel.
“Amelia,” Wendy said, a flicker of hesitation in her voice. “What brings you here?”
Amelia wasted no time. She explained the situation, her words tumbling out in desperation. But when she finished, Wendy’s face fell.
“I’m so sorry, Amelia,” Wendy said softly. “I… I can’t help you. I’m already assigned to a five-year mission. I leave next week. I wish I could, but…” Her voice trailed off, full of regret.
Amelia stood frozen, the reality hitting her like a thunderbolt. Her last hope had vanished in an instant. She mumbled a thank you, turned away, and walked back to her car, her legs feeling like lead.
As she sat behind the wheel, staring blankly ahead, she felt the crushing weight of inevitability. She had no choice now. She would have to leave Jaxon. And as she drove home, the tears she had held back all night finally began to fall.
Amelia arrived home, her face a mask of indifference. Jaxon had been anxiously waiting for her, knowing she’d gone to Wendy’s in search of a solution. He hoped for some good news, something to hold onto, but when Amelia walked through the door, there was nothing. Her expression betrayed nothing—no disappointment, no joy, just a blank slate. Jackson’s heart sank, though he tried to hide it.
He was stirring Amelia’s favorite coffee, trying to keep his composure. As soon as she entered the room, he placed the cup aside and rushed toward her, his hands trembling as he took her arm, guiding her gently to the couch. His mind raced, hoping against hope that Wendy had agreed to take her place. But Amelia’s silence only deepened his fears.
“Emilia,” he began, his voice desperate. “What did Wendy say? She said yes, right? I knew she would. I knew she’d do it! Tell me she agreed, Amelia. Please. I’ll pay for everything, I’ll take care of the trip. Just say it, please. When’s she going to go? When will she take your place? Tell me what she said. I’m sure she said yes, right?”
But Amelia’s tears began to fall, her quiet sobs filling the air. Jaxon froze, his breath catching in his throat. That was when he finally saw it—the truth in her eyes.
She shook her head, the weight of her words too heavy to speak. And in that moment, Jaxon understood. The hope he had clung to had shattered, and the reality was too painful to face. Wendy hadn’t agreed. There was no one else. Amelia was truly leaving, and the finality of it hit Jackson like a tidal wave.
This night; Jaxon clung to Amelia like a baby. He held her tight in the fear of losing her. All night Amelia and Jaxon cried their hearts out. They silently sobbed the whole night and when sun rose... They finally got some sleep.
~~~~~They? Probably not!~~~~~
God helped Jaxon get some sleep, but Amelia wasn't as fortunate. In fact, she tried her best not to sleep as she had to leave the next morning.
March 02, 1996
Amelia sneaked out from the bed... But before she left bed she gently kissed Jaxon's eyes and with a heavy heart got out.
As they show in movies;
Amelia wrote her last letter to Jaxon. She sat on her writing desk and grabbed a white paper while tears felt like a constant war to her,
She wrote whatever she could and left the paper right on his desk. She made sure to go with pin-drop silence.
9:30 Am
Reread this and I love this line so much. “she felt the crushing weight of inevitability.”
Your story is incredibly moving, capturing the deep emotions and heartbreaking decisions that Amelia and Jaxon face. The intensity of their love and the pain of separation are vividly portrayed, making the reader feel every moment of their anguish.
This is very emotionally powerful. Great job at pulling us all into the story! ❤️
OMG This part completely broke me. It’s heartbreaking to think about how much they love each other but still couldn’t change their fate. Beautifully written, but now I need to go cry.
The suspense is building nicely, Maryam. My money is that she is not on the rocket, but we will see part IV. Have you already planned it all out, or are you one of those writers who just follows the law and where it ends up? If the latter, you have a few options from the comments of others.
Ohh! This is written in such an emotional and wonderful way. This is my favorite part of the story. Amelia is gone, "but I doubt she's with those astronauts." Perhaps there's some mystery? What's in that letter? It heightens the suspense.🤔 The way you portrayed their emotions, made them cry and vividly depicted the void of separation was amazing. Wow! Breathtaking. "Is baar aapne aag laga di? 🔥 I'm eagerly waiting for the next part. Please upload it soon. Your favorite quote is incredible! But what exactly does it mean? I couldn't fully understand it 🤟✨👏 I have two quotes that are my favorites, but I believe all good thoughts are great in their way. "You may be a bubble of water, but keep an ocean hidden within you." "Rabindranath Tagore" "True knowledge lies in knowing that you know nothing." "Socrates"
I had a feeling Wendy would decline. Amelia could have woken Jason up, instead leaving just like that. Imagine the rocket explodes upon launching 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 My favourite quote is "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong". It's Murphy's Law. As for your quote, why/how is pain ever a blessing?
Oh wow, Part III really hit hard! Jackson's desperation and Amelia's silent goodbye—such a rollercoaster of emotions. That letter and the news at the end? Wild! Can’t wait for Part IV! 😬 And your quote? Totally on point. Pain really does shape us, even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time! 🖤
Part 3 is something like a roller coaster ride that ain't getting back to it's track... I want part 4 so much... Amelia's letter? Shouldn't you have written her last words to him? Looking forward, your story broke my heart 💔
I wait, that is an attractive story thank you Batool
Heartbreaking and emotional. Can't wait for part IV!
Heartbreaking and emotional—Amelia and Jackson’s love is powerful.
As I read Amelia's final letter, my heart shattered all over again. A wave of despair washed over me, and I felt an ache so deep it threatened to consume me. Her words echoed in my mind, a haunting reminder of the love we shared and the impending loss. I clung to the memories of her laughter and warmth, feeling utterly helpless, desperate to turn back time and hold her close just one more time.
