Yesterday, I took for granted the little things. Driving. My job. Hot coffee. Opening doors. Pleasure in a steaming shower. A good suit. Plumbing. Walking wherever I chose.

On my return from work, my aggravation at the scattered toys and dirty plates boiled under my skin. What did my wife do all day?

She probably answered that, but her voice grated. I tuned it out. Once the kids were abed, my dick nudged me to make overtures. I went through the motions, pretended I wanted her... but she rejected me. Why did I marry her, again?

In retrospect, I missed the signs of her anger. Her smile frozen in place, the half-beat before speaking as if gathering self-control. It wouldn't have perturbed me, even had it not gone over my head. Fool that I was.

This morning, I woke, did a biiiig stretch! ...and started. Why am I in the kitchen?

I scratched my ear. Damn, I was itchy. I should showe- Fear and revulsion shot through me. I shook the thought away, like shaking droplets of mud off my... fur. Wait, what?

I looked down at my shaggy brown paws. This was... a problem. But I had a bigger one. Gotta pee. The kitchen door obstinate, final, its handle far above my head. Is scratching all I can do?

I opened my mouth to holler for that useless bi- My shape commanded my thoughts, distilled them to a whine.

I could hear her getting up. Smell her. My front feet paddled. When she appeared she was - oh! the most wonderful thing I'd ever seen! My coccyx responded, I couldn't stop it.

No bathroom for me. Opening the French doors, she pointed with an imperious finger to the garden. I skulked outside. Felt her eyes on me while I hunched over in the drizzle, shame almost suffocating me.

Did she curse me to this? Or is this my true form, and she raises me to a man-shape at her whim?

I feel such thoughts leak away, unsuited to this mould. She stands over me with bowlful of kibble, scarlet mouth stretched wide, showing every tooth.

"Now, Jerry... are you going to be a good boy?"

Talk about a rude awakening! Not that he didn't desreve it. This should be a fun series!

  • Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha if I was a dog! Would have never guessed that's what inspired this story! Well, I hope he wouldn't get the urge to hump her 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Well, if she did curse him to be a dog, he probably deserved it. I like how you kept the mystery open at the end. Good job!

  • If I was dog..., I'd probably understand better why I spend so much time in the doghouse! Fun story. Is the dog perchance a cocker spaniel or poodle so that we can call him "Jerry-Curls"?

L.C…. Amazing writing! I was there with you, in the room, outside, taking a pee, hunched over… suffocating. I love the word-painting, “scarlet mouth stretched wide”. I was transported. Thank you. 😊

This is great. I too am wondering what's his true form. As for the subtitle, I did read right to end, like all the way to your bio. "Chews books." Yeah, that explains it. 🤣

  • This feels like the start of some interesting drama, mystery, or fantasy! So many different directions it could take!

Aha! Yes! I see why you wanted me to come here! Excellent. Poor Jerry. Great minds, eh?

    This was good

Oh that was disturbing! Is he a dog pretending to be a man, or a man cursed to be a dog. This was an awesome story filled with so many questions! POV was certainly an ass, and you evoked just how terrible he thinks of his wife so powerfully! Though I would prefer a less... magical solution if I were in his shoes, I totally understand what the wife was feeling!

Ha! That was great. Loved how you allowed us to finish some of the thoughts with the clever use of the commas. Only 359 days to go!
