Hello Ellee

She leaves a lasting impression

The building was abuzz with chatter about Ellee coming and tons of reporters blocked the sidewalks in front of 1603 Pennsylvania. Driving a cab in the city wasn't my dream job, but I made enough to catch up on some bills, find an affordable apartment, work my own hours, and pursue other avenues. So, I didn't complain.

Over the past several weeks I have made several drop-offs in the area. Sometimes riders would ask if I'd pull over a block away and other times they wanted me to take them right to the door. Whoever was visiting was of some importance to the powers in the capital. I overheard riders talking among themselves, and at times on their phones.

Driving around the city, something else was going on at the same time as all the chatter of Ellee. Security in the city hadn't been this tight since the swearing-in ceremony for President Trump's second term. Billionaires, dignitaries, politicians, executives, and Trump warranted the National Guard, police from nine states, and a tactical reassignment of the Secret Service.

As the elected officials were all nervous about the visiting dignitary, the security level included stationing two Apaches on the Whitehouse lawn, closing half the roads and highways in and out of D.C., and random identification checks on anyone out after dark. D.C. area residents can't wait for it all to be over.

There have been other red alert visitors. I have seen ten of the so-called red alert visitors in four years. Nothing sets the town on fire like hosting huge parties to welcome kings and dictators. We love a good ball here, and you'll find most of us cabbies parked near the Trump Hotel or the Waldorf, just waiting for the few that forgo limousine service for a taxi.

People should have seen when Governor McConaughey was in town for the biggest fundraiser of the year. Matthew McConaughey arriving by taxi at the Whitehouse made all the news agencies explode and his quote set him up for an easy win over Presidential hopeful, J.D. Vance.

"I don't mind a taxi. Who better to get the real scoop on things from than a D.C. taxi driver? Besides, with what I'm about to speak to President Trump about, I doubt I'm staying long."

-Texas Governor McConaughey, November 2027

It was weird when I turned on the radio after dropping him off. Hearing his voice so quickly told me how thirsty the reporters were. But, like he said, who better to get the scoop from than me? We'd had a long conversation from his hotel to the Whitehouse, and it seemed pretty clear to me that he was in D.C. to tell the president he was planning on running for the presidency. Thank god he did. Lord knows where the country would be at this point.

I'm rushing home to watch President McConaughey's press conference tonight. He's likely to tell the world about his forthcoming meeting with Ellee. Perhaps this is the night she arrives and we'll be introduced to the woman. After weeks of hearing about her, I'm convinced that something that will change the course of the future is about to happen. It's an exciting time.

I just got back to the apartment and made a pot of coffee. I know I haven't had too much time to call you lately, but I've got the weekend off this week and will hopefully be able to catch you and Dad at home. This has been the longest day.

Well, dammit! That was unexpected. I'm going to come home. Hopefully, I'll make it. In all the weeks of hearing about the visitor, it wasn't a girl at all. Nope, President McConaughey just announced that the world is facing an almost certain catastrophe he called an ELLEE. I guess they changed the name a few years ago.

An Extinction-Level-Life-Ending-Event. Who knew? Four years of driving a cab and working my butt off to get this dammed book ready to send to publishers and the end of days is in less than a month. Who knew?

Well, if I don't see you, just know, that I love you very much.

Your Son,

Buck
