Heaven Comes to Earth

Chapter 1

By Layne PerkinsPublished 4 years ago Updated 4 years ago 3 min read

Life is expected to end as we know it. Once it came to the public, doubt flared up immediately, to be fair, this is the information age. Fake news is common, and people have predicted the end of the world for a millennia. It was leaked that a Massive Solid Object, or MSO, was on a collision course with our solar system. This piece of news was ignored by NASA officials initially, as there was no direct response to its validity. That is until the wildfire of believers began to need direct quelling by the media.

"...and onto the wild spread new story that a meteor is coming for our sun..," "...NASA has confirmed that these rumors are false, and really, you shouldn't believe everything you see on the internet." -FAUX 1010 news

In a press conference NASA called for the next morning, the leading teams on space theory, star-searching, and the mathematical experts they had hired to handle the sensitive information, declared that there was indeed a massive object speeding in our general direction. The mathematical experts all agreed, and there were several, that even with the unclear photos received, the projected path intercepts our solar system directly. The massive solid object is so big, that it dwarfs our Sun like Jupiter dwarfs our moon.

"To the Public, we apologize for causing such a stir. There are certain pieces of information that we only recently discovered, and we only wished to release the information once a proper inquiry and conclusion had been made. Unfortunately, we can NOT confirm any false rumors. We know these details are only vague at best, however what we do know, is that the Massive Solid Object, further referred to as MSO, is bigger than the entirety of our solar system, and appears to be approaching our sun at speeds that could only be roughly calculated at best..." -Opening Statement for NASA Press Conference.

It’s been only two months since they revealed all the information regarding the incoming MSO. they had only known about the incoming threat for six months before it was leaked, and only three months for them to address the public. The information can be confirmed by anyone with a powerful enough telescope, and the wherewithal to waste so as much time as nearly 40 days to observe the just noticeable difference as the previously assumed star grow to a larger speck. The estimates gives us nearly two years until the arrival, but the path that it is taking, is unmistakable. Scientist have described it as a massive solid object moving so fast, that the only thing besides a relative speed that they can confirm, is that it has no indicator that a normal gas giant might have. However, with the pictures released by NASA, and many claim they’ve purposefully blurred them, every photo taken can only image a gray speck that widens as it approaches.

There has been much speculation, but two years has been the shared consensus for any astronomers involved. Two years from the date of the Press conference.

It’s been news everywhere, and only hermits mightn’t know. There have been rumors of the richest people in the world funding some of the largest airships to be built. That only the smartest would be saved. There were people saying any doubted the predicted size, for no other reason than they couldn't imagine a solid object being so big. Those said they were going to orbit the sun, The one's who believed the predictions say they’ll take off to one of the distant water planets that have been observed. Maybe the rich will just build life sustaining space ships and travel space.

Last night, the United Nations cleared the air. They confirmed a plan to build a second Earth. They also confirmed a test, or rather, a series of tests. These tests would be physically challenging, mentally challenging, socially challenging, and skill challenging. These being because, of course, only a fraction of Human life could be saved. There would be tests held at the capital of each nation, and it was told that from every country, there would be allowed 10% of their population, or 100,000 persons, whichever is less.

“Contributors of any substantial amount, will of course, be considered for room, as well as each crewman working on the construction of this ship." -excerpt from UN President's Address to the World
