People dropped onto the floor like ragdolls. Unconscious. Their hearts were being stolen. “They wouldn’t have this problem if they put their hearts inside their body like they used to back home,” said mum. I sighed. It is different here in Deynon planet. Everyone has their heart on the outside visible with all their blue blood showing. It was a small cylindrical tube that was attached to the chest. I always wondered what the use of having a heart on the outside was, apparently it was for easy treatment purposes. It was different back home; we had our hearts implanted where hearts should be. I miss home, I wish we didn’t have to move around like we have to just because of dad’s job. My dad is a Hierdo, someone who treats hearts. We have to move around a lot because he is needed all over the universe. I stopped thinking and went out to get some air. I walked down the empty roads that were stunning, letting the air wash over my face like water, the sunset brought many shades of colour into my life. The blue sky contrasting the pink. The calmness of the surroundings was shocking. It was almost too good to be true. Like they say it’s always calm before the storm. A peculiar looking aircraft soared through the sky. It stopped on top of a house and seconds later 3 people started ripping through the roof without control, levitating with their arms and legs hanging. The aircraft yanked their heart out of place pulling it into the aircraft itself and abruptly dropped the three, brutally. Suddenly the aircraft turned towards me. I wanted to run away very much now, but it was as if I was glued to the stop, dreading the moment it would approach me. I had my eyes trained on the aircraft, watched it move towards me slowly. I felt my heart pumping and my face glistened with sweat. I felt a lump forming in my throat, tears forming in my eyes. I saw my life flash before my eyes, it felt like someone was screaming inside me. The aircraft came to a stop it stayed rooted to the spot, it felt as though it was looking at me trying to unravel who I was. Then the aircraft turned around and zoomed away from there. I felt my legs give out and I dropped to the floor taking deep breaths trying to calm my heart down. What was that about? I asked myself.

I dragged myself to my room, still not fully comprehending the whole situation as I stopped to look out the big window that had a perfect view of the blanket of darkness, all the glitter it holds, it twinkled innocently. The round moon shining like a fresh pearl. Something bright in the sky caught my eye. It looked like a massive sheet of metal. A very familiar looking aircraft. I sprinted towards my telescope. I looked through it, I saw it, the aircraft from earlier. I picked up my phone to call Mila. Mila was my assistant, cook and she was my lifeline, best friend. My parents were away most the time I grew up with Mila her mum used to take care of me. Now she has taken over the place of taking care of me.

“Hello Mila”

“Hi Calla, what’s up”

“Nothing much I was just wondering if you could do me a favour?”

“Sure, what’s the favour”

“I need you to track the thing in the sky”

I hear shuffling

“What thi-WHAT IS THAT?”

“It looks like some kind of aircraft that collected people’s hearts; I want you to track it down for me”

“Sure, I’m getting to work now” with that she hung up. I lay down in bed and began to drift away while asking myself, who would do this? And why would they spare me?
