Green-Eyed Doll
A woman experiences several mishaps after receiving a doll from her former flame

For Christie Brennan, it was business as usual. It was approaching 5PM, and Christie was at her usual place: parked outside an office building waiting for Dayna Francis, the woman who completed her. The hours that often followed were the same: they would talk about their day as Christie cooks dinner for them, they would be lost in each other's embrace while watching TV together, and they would be in bed together, cuddling like two people who truly love each other often do.
Such images were bliss for Christie. They were absolute heaven. But they were also all in Christie's mind.
As it often does, the reality set in for Christie when she saw Dayna exit the building and embrace a different woman: her wife of six years, Ashley Gibbons. Christie had known Dayna due to the fact that they went to high school together; in fact, they dated during their senior year. However, they split up after graduation, and in the 13 years that passed, Christie continued to carry an immensely fiery torch for Dayna. She had flat out refused to believe that there were others out there, as in Christie's mind, Dayna was hers, and nothing would stop her from being back with the woman she loved.
Christie watched intensely as Dayna and Ashley drove off, and later tailed them before speeding past them, nearly forcing them off the road. Ashley was left stunned over what happened and wondered who the driver was, but Dayna knew all too well.
"Christie."
Christie's high speed was to make sure that she wasn't seen, as Dayna had filed a restraining order against her due to her many calls and appearances at her workplace, among other areas. After she returned home, Christie went to her bedroom and picked up something she treasured: a doll that was given to her by her grandmother on her eighth birthday.
"You're the only one who loves me," Christie said while fighting back tears. "You're the only one who has never left me."
As for Dayna, she had kept her past relationship with Christie a secret from Ashley; though there were fond memories, she also remembered herself and Christie as immature young girls and felt that she had outgrown her past, while Christie was trying to desperately hang on. Just as Dayna was about to report Christie's latest incident, she heard a knock at the door, and rushed to answer. Dayna was baffled over seeing no one at her front door, but after closing it, she was startled to see a doll on her living room floor.
Dayna recognized it the doll quickly; the green eyes, the brunette hair, the green dress. This was Christie's doll; Christie showed it to her while they dated. Dayna had no idea how the doll ended up inside her house, but she figured that Christie had somehow snuck it in. However, Dayna couldn't report this, because she had no proof that Christie was anywhere in her house.
"Dayna?"
Dayna's thoughts were interrupted by Ashley, and it was at this point that Dayna tossed the doll aside and explained the knock at the door by claiming that someone was pranking her. As night fell, and the couple slept in their bed together, an ominous green light appeared to shine on Dayna; a light that woke her up. Dayna was stunned to see the doll at her nightstand next to her, with the shock seeing her knock down the doll and waking up Ashley due to the noise.
"Dayna?" asked Ashley, "what's wrong?" Dayna couldn't explain what had just occurred, out of fear that Ashley would think that she had lost her mind. Instead, she simply answered:
"Nothing, hon. Just a nightmare."
The following day saw Dayna take the car and drive to her workplace, but not before placing the doll inside their closet. The previous day was hectic enough prior to the doll's appearance, but Dayna figured that it was just one of those strange days that comes and goes. But as Dayna parked her car, she suddenly saw the doll at the passenger's seat, causing Dayna to run out of her car in a panic.
"Christie?!" Dayna shouted, only to receive no answer. "I know you're there! Please leave me alone!" Dayna was later startled by a tap on her shoulder, but once she turned around, she was relieved to see a friendly face.
"Are you OK, Dayna?"
Dayna breathed a sigh of relief as she saw her co-worker, Bethany Brewer, who also went to high school with both Dayna and Christie. The pair entered the building together, and it wasn't until their break that Dayna finally revealed what was going on. "So you're still being stalked?" asked Bethany.
"It has to be Christie," replied Dayna. "She sped past me and Ashley yesterday, and out of nowhere, her doll keeps popping up wherever I am." Dayna expected Bethany to look at her as if she was crazy, but to Dayna's surprise, Bethany appeared to follow Dayna's every word and gave it the seriousness it deserved.
"I think I remember that doll," said Bethany. "Green eyes, green dress, kinda creepy looking?" Dayna nodded in agreement at Bethany's description, while expressing relief that Bethany believed her.
"Thank goodness," said Dayna. "I'm not crazy."
"No, but Christie appears to be driving you crazy," said Bethany. "I'll be honest, I remember when you two dated. I honestly couldn't see what drove you to her. She seemed kinda...off."
"We were kids, Bethany, that's all," replied Dayna, before both women left the break room and returned to their stations. As Bethany was typing, she suddenly saw her computer working strangely--her typed words suddenly deleted one by one, and after the screen went black, Bethany saw the following words pop up:
"SHE'S MINE"
The message popped up repeatedly, shocking Bethany and causing her to run off to the women's lavatory. Her attempt compose herself was interrupted by the sound of a toilet flushing, followed by a co-worker leaving one of the stalls. Bethany breathed a sigh of relief, but once she turned around, she spotted Christie's doll holding a razor, which was followed by Bethany letting out a blood-curdling scream.
Many co-workers, including Dayna, heard the scream, but it was Dayna who rushed past several women to enter the lavatory, only to find Bethany deceased--her throat having been slashed. No one had any idea who could commit such a murder, though a horrified Dayna had her suspicions and phoned the police, identifying Christie Brennan as Bethany's killer. The police headed to Christie's home after Dayna's call, though afterwards, Dayna received a call of her own and heard the following:
"Help me, Dayna! Please help me!"
Dayna's heart raced, as the voice she heard belonged to Ashley. She ran out of the building and high-tailed it all the way back to her home, where she searched for her wife, while continuing to hear Ashley's cries.
"Help! Dayna, help me!"
The cries came from upstairs, with Dayna running up every step and entering her bedroom, where she found Ashley tied up and gagged. As she removed the gag from Ashley, Dayna mentioned her cries for help over the phone, but Ashley would give a response that chilled Dayna.
"What cries? I didn't call you. I had been tied up and gagged since about 10 minutes after you left for work."
Dayna began to panic as she began frantically searching the bedroom, only to hear the following words:
"Looking for me?"
Dayna turned around and saw Christie's green-eyed doll, holding Ashley hostage with a blood-covered razor. "About time you finally heard me," the doll commented. "I've only been trying to talk to you for 13 years!"
"What are you talking about?" asked Dayna. "Why am I talking to a doll? And why do you sound like Ashley?"
"I'm sorry," the doll replied, this time with a different sounding voice, which Dayna recognized as Christie's. "There. That's better."
"This has to be a trick," said Dayna. "Where's Christie?"
"Who's Christie?" asked Ashley.
"My ex-girlfriend from high school," replied Dayna. "She had been stalking me for a while, and she was the one who sped past us yesterday. I'm sorry I didn't tell you." It was at that moment that Dayna's phone rang, and she received a call from the police that further shocked her: Christie was dead. Her body was found in her home, and the most shocking part: she had been dead for over 24 hours. After her call ended, Dayna faced the green-eyed doll, and came face-to-face with a horrifying conclusion.
"Christie? Is that you?"
"Finally," said Christie, "you see me." Dayna remembered that Christie was into spellcasting, though she figured that it was just a hobby. As it turned out, as Christie cradled her doll a day prior, she used her gift to turn her doll into a vessel for her spirit, after which Christie sacrificed herself with the same razor she held towards Ashley, which was also the same weapon she used to kill Bethany.
"You and I were meant to be together, Dayna," said Christie. "We are kindred spirits! Can't you see that?! Can't you see what I've done to be with you?!"
"Dayna, what is going on?!" exclaimed Ashley.
"I'm sorry, Ash," said Dayna, as she untied Ashley.
"Don't feel bad, hon," said Ashley. "I mean, I do wish you could have told me about your crazy ex, but at least you're here now, and that's all that matters to me."
"Actually," said Dayna, "that's not what I'm apologizing for."
"What do you mean?" asked Ashley. Dayna suddenly flashed an evil smile on her face, right before Christie sliced Ashley's throat, while Dayna watched with sinister glee. A green glow also omitted from Dayna's pupils, which revealed that not only that she had known more about Christie's powers than she let on, but she was also into sorcery as well.
"Christie was right," the evil Dayna commented. "We are kindred spirits. We dabbled in this together, but I thought that I could "outgrow" it, live "normally." Christie spent years showing her love for me, she knows me. You don't. What have you ever done for me?" Dayna made her statements as she watched Ashley perish, and as soon as she was fully gone, Dayna gave one glance at Christie, which was followed by a green glow that filled the house.
Shortly afterwards, Ashley's eyes reopened, but Dayna gave a contented smile, as she knew that Ashley's soul was gone, and Christie had left the doll and entered Ashley's body. Christie embraced Dayna afterwards; a very passionate and romantic kiss to cement their fiendish and sinister kinship.
