Going Out

to Hell and back

By Lacie GraysonPublished 5 months ago 4 min read

He was excited, because it was his first rave. I was excited to see him, we hadn't seen each other since a particular controlling girlfriend became upset we were friends.

It was all over.

It was October the month my dad really splashes out on a gift, he says for all the ones he missed when I was younger. Though given my dad's years of drug use and alcoholism I suspected it was more he was worried I wouldn't have anyone to do nice things when he was gone. (neither my father or I were made for married life, we had that in common I guess.)

Although sometimes I think, maybe if I found a guy who could look at me and tell me you are more than moonlight.

Seeing Devilboy for the first time in years made me question my beliefs in almost everything. Devilboy still had his childlike wonder intact at forty.

Mine, was a little bruised, but still mostly there. Seeing Devilboy brought back a thrill I hadn't remembered. See, when we were in our twenties, we ran in similar circles we had the same friends, we never officially met. The closest we had come was I saw him sleeping on my couch, The couple I was owned by invited him over to smoke out.

Me and Devilboy? we met, doing of all things livestreaming.

Tonight however was about the Halloween rave in downtown Seattle.

I wore a black bikini top black leggings and my slime girl cardigan. I made Devilboy wait so I could do my slime drip eye shadow. He was understanding and patient as ever.

Getting to the Arena was easy in late afternoon daylight. Devilboy had to smoke while I claimed wrist bands at will call. They had my tickets under my dad's name and because I don't glow with nepo baby entitlement I did what I usually did started hauling things out of my clear bag, acting like I didn't know where my phone was.

Will Call Guy looks bored and like he's so done. "Miss what's your name? I can put a note and give you bands."

"Muse." I say repacking my bag. "Jones."

Will Call Guy passes me our bands, with a weary sigh. I smile and he let's me go. Probably thankful I was just a scatterbrained ditz, and not screaming at him like the girl screaming at the ticket window next to us.

I go over to Devilboy who's grumbling security made him ditch his lighter. I tell him of my encounter, he seems amused.

I was in my element, being in crowds usually fried my brain. Being in music/rave crowds lit me up. I did a lap around the main area. Before heading to an off shoot stage where some of the EDM acts I follow on twitter were.

Devilboy comes back to me excited to have a possible hook up for "party favors" I smile and pull an edible from my bikini top he looks like he's just got to Pearly Gates and is getting in.

"Muse you're the best." he says taking it and I scramble to the DnB stage as the tribute to my dad starts, I will never be tired of hearing his songs randomly used in EDM. (Same with Princess Superstar) both singers and songwriters who deserve to be remembered.

A gaggle of girls start dancing with me, I offer mints and some water. A good time is had by all. Next I scope out kandi trades, they girls trading are super sweet and stop a random drunk guy from grabbing my chest.

I find Devilboy again he's wearing a rave friend's face mask and pushing his wheelchair while newravefriend eats nachos.

Somehow, the three of us end up being placed in VIP (I don't question, I've learned if you get freebies or upgrades accept and smile) I think Devilboy is toasty because he's telling me about demons he saw in my house I nod and give the only answer I have "Demons kinda like me."

"They more than like you." he club volume says.

We continue to talk about demons, and how time actually feels slower in my bedroom as we wander from the VIP to the parking structure stage. Wreckno was playing and for me, my whole purpose for going.

I say something along the lines of "I think my kid made a deal with the Fae." and shrug.

I wander to see Wreckno as close as I can.

When I find Devilboy he's talking to some girls he got tabs off of. The one stops and immediately did the PLUR handshake kandi trade. She continued talking to Devilboy like nothing had happened.

We took pictures at a selfie installation that heavily reminded us of Hell's night club.

I think both of our highs were peaking because when I was randomly given a ballon we both started saying it was "our child"

Good ending to a great party.

I missed the last ferry back to my city, by seconds so, being me I have a cabdriver in my phone. She agrees to pick us up off "richy rich" island and drive back to mine.

While at the semi closed and ghost town like ferry terminal me and Devilboy do what we do best, we make a new friend. She's stunning.

I am a little crushed when she says I remind her of her grandma, then I decide her grandma is probably really cool, but still nice. We leave her our info and dash off to the cab, yelling goodbyes as we go.

I should take a minute to explain Kat, she drives a cab, I think she has a boss sometimes. Other times I don't know cos she'll do things like stop at dairy queens so we can have ice cream. She also brings her boyfriend John with her since he moved up here last fall. He's nice and he dresses like a cowboy

They save my ass a lot, more than I'd care to admit.

Devilboy is still up and chatty. I reached the sleepy phase so I nod of next to him the ballon in between us.

Dreaming of my next adventure.
