Once upon a time in the town of Lake Erie but not necessarily around the lake itself. There was a family whose last name was trickster. They were a family of four. You had Ronnie as the Father and Sally as the mother. Scottie was the baby boy and last but not least of them was the trickster of them all, Trixie.
There were a few days left until Halloween and everyone was trying to figure out how to play a trick on Trixie because she would always prank them in some form or fashion. Whether you were prepared or not. You can bet your last dollar that she was up to something.
One day Trixie was walking around the house trying to figure out what her next big prank would be but she was fresh out of ideas. Meanwhile, as she sat at the table with her father she decided to strike up a conversation with him, "Hey Dad what are you doing?"
"Oh nothing much, I was just reading the tabloid section of the daily news where they talked about juicy gossip.”
“Really! What are they talking about today?”
“How UFOs have been sited around the town, especially by the lake. What is your no good behind up to?" he said as he chuckled and turned the page.
“Uh! I was feeling a little devilish so I decided to prank my little brother."
“Now why would you want to go and do a thing like that, Trixie?"
"Because I can't help it."
“And might I ask, why not?"
“Because i’m a Trickster, daddy." she said with a devilish grin. “Well maybe you should go Halloween shopping with your mother. That might give you some inspiration."
“Dad you’re the greatest!” Trixie said as she hugged him.
Later that afternoon while Trixie and her mother were shopping. She had branched off from her mother while she was distracted with pumpkin lanterns. Trixie strolled up and down the aisle until she stumbled upon the perfect idea. She found an aisle with a variety of different color glow sticks. Meanwhile, she pondered on each color until she remembered her daddy saying something about UFOs and decided to take the green and go.
As the cashier rang up their merchandise, her mother noticed there were some additional items in the buggy. Several green glow sticks to be exact. Sally had cut her eyes at Trixie, “My little devil child, what are you up to?”
“He-He-He! That's for me to know and you to find out.” Trixie replied.
The anticipation of Halloween being a couple days away seemed to drive Trixie mad, so she began with her festivities beforehand. The first night she waited until after it was dark to go position a glow stick in the thickness of the wooded area and ran back to tell her brother a scary story. “Scottie look! Do you see it?”
“See what!”
“The green light that was glowing in the distance.”
“Yes! I see it! What do you think it is?”
“It’s aliens, of course! They’ve come to invade Earth and eat us alive but I heard they don't like little boys. Therefore, you’ll be the first to go. I heard they hide in closets until they're ready to get you, get you, get you!”
“No they're not! Mama! Trixie is trying to prank me and I don’t like it” Scottie said as he ran out of the room. Trixie giggled as she ran into her room and jumped under the covers.
On the second night, Trixie tried a different approach and placed a glow stick a little closer to the fence and told him a similar but yet different story.
Likewise, On the third night Trixie tried another approach but as she was putting a glow stick out she tripped and broke two of them so she had to space them out. As Trixie was making her way back to the house. She saw a multi-colored light in the sky, that hovered back and forth between the two glow sticks like it was confused, so it landed between the two. Trixie mouth hung so low that it almost hit the ground because she couldn't believe what she saw.
Meanwhile, she ran inside to her brother’s room and tried to get him to look out the window. “Brother, did you see that thing that kept going back and forth between those two green lights?”
“Oh no no no, Trixie, you won't trick me today.”
“Scottie, I'm not playing a trick on you because i’m for real this time. There's something outside.”
Leave me alone and get out of my room!” Scottie said furiously as he pushed her out of the room.
On the third night while Scottie was sleeping. Before Trixie made a conscious decision to creep into her brother’s room she snapped a glow stick and tiptoed over to his closet and set it on the floor. It was sometime after midnight when Trixie awoke to some unorchestrated chatter in the backyard. As she got up to head towards the window she rubbed her eyes. Trixie thought she was bugging at first because her vision was still blurred. However, when it came to she saw a shadowy figure with green glowing eyes looking at her. Trixie was stricken with fear as she caught the shadowy figure's gaze. She didn’t make a peep until it blinked and then she ran for dear life screaming in her parents room where she slid under the covers with them.
“Trixie, what's wrong?” her parents as they both jumped up discombobulated. “There's something outside with green glowing eyes and it’s coming to get me!” she said frantically. Meanwhile Sally and Ronnie just looked at each other perplexed. “Well why don’t you go check it out honey.”
“Why me?” Ronnie responded.
“Because you're the big, strong and fearless man of the house.”
“Oh shucks!” Ronnie said as he got up to find his flashlight.
As Ronnie went outside Trixie ran back to her room and opened up the window to see her father roaming around the yard. “Do you see it? Do you see it?” she said hysterically. Ronnie just shrugged his shoulders and exhaled, “Trixie are you sure that there was something outside your window or are you just trying to play a trick on us all?”
“I’m one-hundred percent sure and for the first time in my life I'm not telling a fib.”
Meanwhile, as Ronnie was headed back towards the house he gave the yard one last look over before something sparkled in his peripheral. He then shot a glance over to his window and noticed a green light illuminating from within before there was a loud scream coming from Scottie’s room. Ronnie bolted back in the house and he met up with Sally and Trixie.
As Sally, Ronnie and Trixie stood at the threshold of Scottie’s room. They all debated on who they thought should go in first. Nevertheless, since there was no unanimous vote. They attempted to play “rock, paper, scissors” before another loud scream came from beyond the door but this time it wreaked with terror. So they counted to three and all burst in the room to see Scottie up under his cover shaking uncontrollably. “What's wrong, Scottie?” They all said it in one accord. “There's a green light glowing extremely bright in my closet. It's an alien, it has to be!” Scottie exclaimed. “Now where on Earth did you get the idea that there's an alien in your closet?”
“Trixie said there were UFOs over by the lake.”
“Trixie, I've had enough of this foolishness. Why did you tell your brother that when UFOs don’t exist.”
“Then how do you explain the need for Area 51?”
“Because they want to keep the conspiracy theorist on edge.”
“But I'm not one of them. Dad I can’t make this stuff up, I did see something outside.”
“Was that before or after you placed the glow stick in your brother’s closet?”
“Uh! Who said I did such a thing?” Trixie said as she looked around the room. Her mother gave her an evil eye. “So you mean to tell me if I open this closet door. I'm not going to find a glow stick laying on the floor?”
“No!”
“Trixie!” her dad replied.
“Well maybe, kind of sort of.” she said. As she hung her head low and watched her mother slowly open the door. “Ah! I can’t watch!” Scottie said as he ducked back under the covers.
When Sally finally opened the door they all stood there in amazement because nothing seemed to be glowing from the closet. Ronnie did a quick sweep of it and came back out with haste. “I'm going to need all yall to do better. I didn’t realize you all were afraid of the dark.”
“Okay! Okay! So maybe I lied but I did see something outside.”
“From this night forward there will be no more trickery, Trixie.”
“Yeah! What your father said. You are trying to give your brother nightmares. As a matter of fact let's go get the rest of them.” Sally said as she made her do the “walk of shame.” They all followed Trixie to her room and when she opened the nightstand she realized that the last glow stick was missing but it didn't make any sense to her because she knew there was still one left. Even after she had broken two of them the other night. “So where are they?” Sally asked.
“Uh! I don’t know.”
“Why not?” Ronnie replied.
“Once again I don’t know but I only had one left and now it’s gone.”
“It better be, Trixie.”
“Look, I don’t know about y'all but i’m tired and I need my rest. Can y'all come check my room one last time, Please!”
As they tucked Scottie back in for the night. Sally noticed that there was a green light glowing from underneath the closet door. So she signaled for Ronnie to open the closet door again just to prove to Scottie that there wasn’t anything to fear. Once the door swung open Ronnie saw a glow stick on the floor. “See we told you Scottie there’s nothing to fear.” Ronnie said as he went to pick it up. The light went out as well as the glow stick. Nevertheless, the fluorescent green lit eyes proved Ronnie otherwise.
