“A blind date?”

Gina cringed. She looked at her friend Raquel and rolled her eyes.

“So this is your idea of a sending me on an adventure?”

“Oh, dear heart… This is just the thing to get you out of your shell. You need to get out there and meet some cute guys!”

“I don’t have anything cute to wear to be around these so called ‘cute guys’ you speak of. I just feel so frumpy.”

They both sat on Gina’s bed. They had just finished watching several episodes of The Amazing Race and Survivor.

Raquel hopped up with enthusiasm and pulled Gina’s closet doors open.

“Hmm. Let’s see what you have. I’m sure you have something that will be great.”

She flipped through the entire closet.

“All you have are jeans and oversized t-shirts. I see a few dresses but they look like the type of dresses you’d wear to a funeral.”

“Raquel, I told you. I don’t have anything for dating. I don’t understand why people bother to go on dates. It just seems like a waste of time and energy… and well money too…”

Gina closed the closet doors. Shaking her head she continued to reason with her friend.

“You’ve been a bit low lately. I know you so well. I just think a date will be fun for you to experience. When it’s over you can come tell me all about it. Plus, just go once and see how it goes. You don’t have to go out with him ever again if you don’t jive with him, ya know?”

Gina sighed, and laid back in her bed. She pulled the covers over her head and groaned.

Raquel grabbed Gina’s foot from beneath the covers and tickled her feet which were very ticklish. Gina laughed, kicking up her feet wildly like a sprayed bug.

“Ok, well, come on, we’re going shopping. I have an idea of just the right store to go to.”

“Which one?”

“Forever 21 of course!”

Gina rolled her eyes again.

“Ok, but if we can’t find anything for me to wear, then can we just scrap this whole idea and come home and watch more episodes of Survivor?”

Raquel smiled. She was pleased.

“Yes, of course, love!”

They quickly got ready and jumped into the car to head to the store. After searching for several dresses, they found three dresses of various colors and lengths. There was a pair of purple heels that they found that went well with two of the dresses. They found a pair of silver sandals that complemented the third dress very well.

“See how easy-peasy that was?”

Raquel did a little twirly dance by the exit door of the store. She held the bags for her friend.

“Oh, and I have just the right purple eye shadow for your eyes! You’re gonna look so fine, girl!”

They got back in the car. Gina still looked uncomfortable.

“Tonight’s gonna be great!”

“Tonight? I thought this blind date thing was gonna happen in like a couple weeks?”

Gina closed her eyes and braced herself.

“Oh no! Carpe diem, baby! I set it up for tonight! You’ll have lots of fun, I promise!”

Raquel was estatic. She popped her pink sunglasses on.

“I feel sick.”

Gina said, as if she was ready to vomit out the window.

“Oh you’re fine! Don’t be so dramatic. It’s a date, not a death sentence!”

Raquel pulled into her garage with her Volkswagen Beetle light blue car. It had eye lashes on the front of the headlights.

“We don’t have time to waste! Let’s get going with your makeup!”

Raquel clapped like a hyper squirrel who’d drank six shots of espresso.

“You’re having way too much fun with this…”

Gina pulled the bags out of the car. They walked into the house and went to Raquel’s room which had lots of makeup on the dressers. She applied all of the makeup and then braided Gina’s hair in two thin braids, tying them in the back and letting the rest of her hair flow in between the braids.

“Ya look gorgeous! That purple shimmery eye shadow looks even better than I imagined!”

Raquel stepped back to admire her work. The doorbell rang twice.

“He’s here!”

Raquel continued her excitement. Gina gulped.

“Okay. Here goes… I hope he doesn’t have dentures or a toupee or smell like pickle relish. I can’t stand pickle relish!”

Raquel giggled.

“Oh come on!”

Raquel opened the door for Gina and shoved her slightly toward the doorstep.

“Have fun!”

She whispered.

I like the cover photo. Gina is so relatable and Raquel sounds like the kind of friend everyone needs. To pull us out of the rut. We won’t thank them now, but most certainly will, later. 😂Gina is hilarious there at the end. ‘I hope he doesn’t have dentures or a toupee or smell like pickle relish.’ I can tell that she’s the type to think that everything will go wrong, I get that especially from this line. Also makes me think that she once dated someone with that description, brings the story to life 👌🏽 Which got me thinking, what in the world does Komal have cooking up for us, I am scared to go over but I know I must. Well done, Rowan, I really enjoyed reading the first part especially because it’s so relatable and their personalities came through perfectly. 👌🏽👏🏽

You seem to have good knowledge of fashion and girls' moods, right?😃😆 That was such a fun part 1... Let's see how the date turns. A disaster or maybe something exciting... Btw, I just happen to notice Raquel below that picture...hehe... Was that the inspo? 😅

Oh my goodness, this was such a fun ride! Raquel’s hyper squirrel energy is giving me life, and Gina’s pickle relish phobia? Absolutely relatable in the most unexpected way. I’m so thrilled to write part 2, but let me tell you—I am hella scared. 🫣 What if I don’t do justice to Gina’s cringe-worthy charm or Raquel’s espresso-fueled antics?😆 Fingers crossed that Gina’s date doesn’t actually smell like pickle relish because I’m not sure even Raquel’s enthusiasm could save that! 🤞🙌
