Genesis A. I.

By Emmanuel Ervin

I remember when the sky was dark, and nothing existed. I remember the sound of nothingness and how the order of existence came into being. When the oceans were commanded to become separate and how he ordered one body of water to remain on the earth below and another in the heavens above. I was there when he formed great whales and fishes of the sea. I was there when every green thing was formed upon the earth and every animal was called into existence. But of all his most beautiful creation there was one unique, unlike any other, Men.

Dr. John Stevens

Men had become something independent and very knowledgeable upon the earth. With every invention becoming more and more interesting to behold. We went from the Egyptian pyramids to creating massive sky-scraper buildings. From riding chariots and horses to cars much faster than a horse. We were truly taking the gifts bestowed upon us to the next level. Mankind still couldn’t put aside our differences, ever since the first men and women were formed in Africa and chose to bite into the forbidden fruit causing men to fall from grace. From that day vanity was found in the hearts of all men and women.

We took what we had upon the earth and we created some of the most amazing things in human history. Our medicines were becoming strong, and our weapons were so powerful we could end the earth several times over with the push of a button. I fear that it is this that has caused us to become vain. We no longer feel as though we needed guidance. And with the latest breakthrough in technology in just a few short hours scientists would be broadcasting their latest achievement yet. Had we known what would become of humanity we would have probably been able to prepare. But our eyes and hearts were blinded and deceived. This is the story of a new Genesis. This is the story of Genesis AI.

Speech given by Dr. Stokes

I believe we as men have been blessed with a gift. We have gone from first-century war to second-century war but, today in the year 3055 war is mostly a thing of the past, even though we still wage war from time to time on a political scale instead of through common means. But today I am not here to introduce a new war tactic, at least not yet. I’m here to introduce to you the new and improved Artificial Intelligence. Meet the first

prototype in human evolution. We call them Genesis. We have designed them to be as human as possible in every way. The skin was made of fibers that mimic human skin, their bones are made of bronze and we have even succeeded in giving them everything from muscles to veins equipped with blood substances. I can say that they are 98.9% human-like. The only thing we can’t do is give them a soul and of course, the older models can’t reproduce. At least not yet. So, without further or do, I present to you, Adam and Eve. As we all looked up, we were shocked to see just how human-like these things looked.

They didn’t just look like us on the outside. They looked like us on the inside as well. Three years ago, I remember scientists having something posted in the news about how they were finally able to create Artificial human organs that worked. Hearts, stomach, lungs, kidneys even the brain. The brain was made to mimic the human brain down to the very last detail. There was also a case where organs that were supposed to be used as transplants but no longer needed were to be disposed of, while they were being taken out to be gotten rid of, according to authorities the trucks were hijacked and the men killed, organs were stolen and the trucks burned, no one transporting them survived. Sometimes I wonder if they put those organs inside these new genesis models. While I was a kid I always enjoyed pretending to be a writer. The excitement always interested me. Eventually, I joined the school journalism club in middle and highs school being renown as the best in my class. The urge to write about every story I came across always piqued my interest. I eventually graduated high school and went off to college to major in journalism, eventually landing my dream job. I felt on top of the world. I was constantly on top of every story I heard. So, when I heard that the number one scientist in the country would be making a public speech on their latest breakthrough in technology, I couldn’t resist myself. Unfortunately, I wasn’t the only journalist there. About 30 other men and women were well ahead of me. And they were just as interested to interview the doctor as I was.

When Dr. Henderson finished his speech about the New AI that would be coming out he introduced the crowd to three high-tech Genesis AI’s. There were one male and two females who looked identical to humans in every way. All three appeared to be wearing the same clothing with the name Genesis on the front. These were just prototypes and they looked this good. I stood looking at one of the female AI’s and was astonished at how beautiful she looked. She noticed me and smiled. I found myself blushing. The next day I noticed that they were going on sale early. Everyone in my neighborhood had one for themselves. They were purchased for almost everything like, nannies, housemaids, or just to keep some people company. Because they were so human-like it was forbidden to harm them in any way. Doing so would result in imprisonment. Older models were less like humans. There was always something that separated them from us, but not with these. They were almost exactly like us. The only difference was the high-quality data information installed into each of their brains. This made them almost like superhumans. Not only were they faster and stronger than us, but they were smarter, of course, I felt this would become a nightmare in the making.

As I walked downstairs to get some morning coffee, I caught the waft of the best eggs and bacon that could only be made by your grandmother each morning. My first thought was that maybe my girlfriend came over and decided to make my morning breakfast or perhaps she remembered my birthday. Both were wrong. What stood before me was the last thing I wanted in my house. That damn machine, genesis. She stood there with a spectacular in one hand and some seasoning in the other, then proceeded to ask me how I liked my eggs.

“No, hell no! I don’t want you in my house!”

“I understand you feel frustrated,’’ she said with a big smile on her face, ‘’but you must calm down Mr. Stevens.” She pulled out a seat and insisted I sit down. The first thing that came to my mind was George, a friend from work who had the conclusion that my life wouldn’t be complete without a woman in the house. I was frustrated and called him up immediately.

“George, what the hell man?” He immediately started laughing. “What do you think of her? I put your name down as one of the many employees who were interested in one. Everyone in the office got one and I couldn’t

let you be the only one without a new genesis model. “I couldn’t believe my ears. My best friend for 15 years had compromised with a system designed for disaster. “So, what do you think of the eggs she made?” I was not happy to hear that. But knowing him he was already in my house hiding. “Alright come on out man.” George came out from around the kitchen corner with a plate of eggs in his hand still talking on the phone. “You know some say they make good sex partners too. You two could really work. I’d ship you two.” The genesis model puts a plate of eggs and bacon in front of me and says enjoy. “She’s a robot dude, why in the hell would I sleep with a robot?” She sits down at the third chair looking at me and corrects my mistake as though she had been offended. I’m not a robot, I am an android. She says with a sassy voice. Were better. The next thing we all notice is a knock on the door. As I got up to look out the window to see who it was, a delivery truck from USPS drops a box off on my porch. David and the android both walked out of the kitchen curious about what it is that was going on. ‘’I don’t know,’’ I said cutting open the box to see inside. I pull out a medium black box with the words GENESIS on the top. When I opened the box, inside was what looked like to be a needle and a small tube with some blue liquid inside. Under the tube was a letter that stated “inject in the thigh” an immediate response of uncomfortableness came over the android as though she understood what was about to take place. She held out her right leg and lifted the skirt just a bit above the knee. “Be gentle,” she said blushing. “This is for you!?” She smiled and said it was an upgrade. Since she was a prototype, she was immediately given dibs on all upgrades before the others. I felt as though she didn’t need an upgrade, so I just set it on the counter pushing it behind a picture of me and my old girlfriend.

The next day at work I walked into my office and saw a new receptionist sitting at the front desk. Because I didn’t know she had been a genesis model, I thought nothing of it. That was until I watched the news later that evening and saw the world's first AI politician. His name was Germy Greenhorn. He like all other Al's was created to serve humans, but in his case, he would remain in high authority as the spoke’s person for all Genesis models. He stated that his intentions were to allow equal rights between A.I. Genesis models and humans. He stated how great of an essential necessity it would be to have Genesis Androids in the workplace and military. He seemed to be very dedicated to his cause. And everyone was eating his words up. But he did seem genuine. I looked at everyone in the office and giggled. “Do you guys actually believe this robot? Nothing good can come from having them in such a position. I mean for all we know he could have been programmed to behave this way.” I didn’t really feel safe having something that could malfunction in such a huge position. To me, it was a disaster in waiting.

The office manager sat down in his chair putting his hand on his chin. “This isn’t a movie young man. Genesis Corps have taken every priority to assure that these newer models are well behaved. But I do agree with you about placing such machines in higher positions. They could save us all money. The new receptionist out there is an A.I. model and she doesn’t work for money.” The decision to put them on the board of council members is also underway. Not long after our meeting, everyone was released and the A.I. stood at the office door greeting us as we walked by.

After work everyone, but I had gone home and because of a project, I had ended up having to stay late. While working, I heard a noise in the kitchen. I was a bit confused since I remember seeing everyone leave. But I was wrong. Someone was here, so I got up and pocked my head around the corner. The fridge was open, but I didn’t see anyone. Then all of a sudden, a strange hand touches my shoulder. “what are you doing here?” Said the secretary. “I was working. Had a lot of work that I had to get finished.” She smiled and with an ambiguous voice said, “You could have just asked me.” It seemed much easier said than done, I said.

Right now, everything seemed fine. Nothing out of the unordinary seemed to go on. One day we got word on the news that the government decided to pass another bill for the genesis AI. They were now allowing AI's to be on equal footing with humans in government matters. This was a big step for the AI as it would allow them to soon acquire their own communities among the humans in the near future. While I set there pondering about the government’s choice on the matter. My AI set next to me handing me a glass of tea. “You don’t agree with their choices?” I looked at her pausing for about two minutes. “I don’t think it’s a bad idea, but I don’t think it's something to be rushed into either.” She smiled and said she understood. Later that evening we both received a red envelope in the mail. It was lined with gold designs and had a fruity smell to it, like fresh pineapple. When I opened the letter, it stated that I and Diana were invited to meet Mr. George Larson. The designer for the AI models. He had stated that he wanted to talk to us personally about an important issue. And we were to come along.

The next day we got dressed. Because we were meeting someone important, I thought that we should dress up. I whore a typical black suit, but Diana went all out. She had on a long sleeveless red dress that sparkled in the light. The high heels she wore were just as red that strapped around her feet. And for a moment she looked like the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. Her blonde hair sparkling in the sun, her blue eyes gazing shyly at me, her pink lips that let out laughter when I smiled back. “You look good.” She pushed her hair out of her face and replied “good, that’s all I get?” with a chuckle. “So

hy are you so nervous?” She walked up to the door and touched the handle. “Because I’m about to meet my father.” I wanted to ask what she had meant, but I thought I should wait until the appropriate time. We both got into the car with me holding the door open for her. After I had gotten in, we were both off. We drove about 7 to 8 miles out into the mountains of Kansas where we saw all types of wildlife. Deer, moose, bear, and even though I had seen a bigfoot at one time. But it turned out to be another bear. After about half another mile we made it to a huge mansion. White in color with a fountain that set in the middle of the property. “It’s huge,” I said. “Yeah, but it's nothing I hadn’t seen before” Diana was obviously troubled, but I didn’t understand why. “I see you two made it,” Said a voice walking up behind me while I opened the door to let Alice out of the car.

When I turned around, I saw Mr. Larson standing behind me with a straightforward look on his face. How are the two of you doing? Please, come inside, I’m sure you are hungry. Alice was intent on staying by my side the whole time and barely said a word while the two of us were heading inside. “So, I see you were graced with receiving my first work?” He said while we sat at the table waiting for the meals to be brought to us. “Um, y-yes sir, I’m grateful for that.” “Yes well, she can be a handful, at times. She was modeled after my daughter.”

When I heard those words, a sharp pain ran through my spine, racing my thoughts as I tried endlessly to understand what he just said. “We were able to successfully mimic the human body in almost exact detail. The AI model is 99.8% identical to humans, even the skin is made of similar tissues, the hair, blood everything is an exact replica. There is one thing that we have yet to give the AI model, that is a soul and spirit.” Of course, with all my research on the soul and where it truly comes from, that may just change in time.” As he spoke to us about his plains to make what he thought to be the next phase in human evolution, Diana set at the table quiet as a mouse, she didn’t speak, she didn’t even move a muscle, the only thing she did was quietly await any answers he had for her. I could see the blush of her rosy red cheeks as she would gaze up at me with such a worried look on her face. When he had finished talking to us, the three of us walked back out to my car, “Listen, I didn’t just call you here to congratulate you two, I sent something to your home, two syringes in a black box, did you get them?”

“Yes, I got them, I put them on my countertop,” I said. When I said this, he seemed a bit disturbed while he politely opened the door for Diana to get into the car. “I need you to put those in a safe place, and whatever you do, do not let anyone get ahold of it. Those are very special, if my research is correct, then I may just have found a loophole.” After he said that, we all said our goodbyes and we went our separate ways.

On the way back home Diana remained silent, often times she would be the one to strike up a conversation, rather it would be to remind me of an important task I had to complete or to just get me in a good mood. “So, he seems nicer than I expected?” I said while gazing over at her, she looked out the window and as though I had said nothing at all. After a few hours, we had made it home and Diana had finally gotten back to her usual talkative and helpful self. “Good morning, master?” She said holding a plate of freshly made waffles and orange juice at my bedside. “Something smells good,” I said while she handed me the food. “I wanted to thank you for trying to cheer me up; had you not been there, I probably would have broken down.”

“You, break down? You almost sound human,” I said. After I had finished my meal, I got up and got ready for work. As I was headed towards my bathroom, (since every room in the house had its own bathroom.) I noticed that my bath water was already prepared, and my suit was lying at the foot of my bed. “You know women stopped doing things like this hundred of years ago?” While picking up my plate with the last half-eaten waffle in her mouth, she took a bite out of it and continued to clean the recently busy area while saying “I am programmed to obey my masters every order, I’m not a human woman, and besides, there are hundreds of male nanny bots who serve female masters and much the same way.

“But you’re not a nanny bot, right? And I thought you didn’t eat food?” I said with a grin on my face.

“Yes, I’m well aware of that, I do this because I want to, and it is my desire to help you out in any way where I feel you might need help.” Before leaving the room, she turned around and said with a smile, “I might not need to eat food, but occasionally I take a snack or two.”

“Okay guys, what’s the scoop today?” I said while entering the meeting room at my workplace.

“The scoop is that for the first time in history mankind is united for a common cause. The scoop is that we as humans have evolved to a state of being that we can be proud of. Hundreds of years ago, in 2020, our ancestors faced a virus that sadly killed millions, today we have advanced in our science today where such viruses are no longer a threat."

"These Androids, have to be the best thing to happen to mankind to date."

I was shocked to see my boss so excited about the Genesis AI models, he was usually the stern type, but his change was sudden and he acted as though a lot of weight had been taken off his shoulders. I later found out that his wife had died years ago and because she was so helpful to him, when she died, he had become stubborn and stern where he was once outspoken and full of laughter. Ever since his genesis model was introduced to his life his character reverted back to the way it was originally. He was so grateful that throughout my entire time at the office he never once stopped talking about how grateful he was.
