Our snow covered village, so white and cold from the cursed winter that plagued the whole world into a freezing hell. I sit outside with my warm mug of hot tea waiting for my dad to come home from his shift at the wall. The huge monument of a wall stands about a mile from our home. No one is allowed to go near except for the watchers, but when I was younger I saw what was outside of the wall.

I was playing in my backyard when I saw a white hair digging in the snow. I went after it hoping to bring it home for dinner that night. We don't have a lot of food in the village because it is too cold to grow in the walls. He begins to run away, but after not having any food beside the amount of small fish soup we have each day. I follow the hair all the way to the wall and I see him escape by going through a whole. I let him lead the way, I crawl through the whole, it was a little scary going in. Nails were sticking out, blood cover the pieces of crumbling rock, but I needed that food.

Once outside of the wall I saw mountains and trees. They were covered with the untouched white powder of snow, standing so still. The sun slowly set, being tucked away behind the massive strong mountains. Its rich golden rays shoot out just to turn the sky into a blush pink before the purple night sky begans to take over. As I gazed upon the enticing sight, I saw trees in the close distance start to fall over making a path to the village. I quickly turned and try to crawl back into the safety of the wall. As I went through I suddenly got choked by the heart shaped necklace my late mom gave me before the cursed winter brought the horror that was trying to get at that very moment. I tried to pull it free while screaming for help, the chain broke and I had fallen back hitting my head on a rock. The next thing I knew I was awaking in my home, I was looking at my dad with tears in my eyes as I hugged him.

I have never gone back since, the fear of whatever lies on the other side of that wall is too frightening. I look up from my mug of warm tea now and see a white hair looking back at me, with something in its mouth. The rabbit hops over to me, getting closer I see that the item is my locket. I run over to him but he dashes towards the wall. I freeze as the length between grows. I decide to chase him once again, not even thinking about anything but the locket. I see him sitting right at the opening of the wall. He drops the locket, right before leaving our village. I kneel down and pick it up in my hand, suddenly I hear a loud scream look over to see one of the watchers pushed off of the wall. I run over and see that it's my father. I quickly hold him in my arms and he brings my head close to him. He tells me, "We fear what we don't know but how will we ever find out if we don't look."

A few weeks later we burn to fathers body, as I head home from the village center. I open the locket to see my mother and father, my tears slowly fall down my face freezing on the snow. I take one last look at my home and the walls that have kept me inside. I grip my bag and my locket and crawl out into the unknown.
