For Posterity
You should watch yourself
"Come on ladies, please. It will just be a moment. Document your journey, why not?"
I looked at Rae for approval. Her mouth was scrunched to the side and she subtly nodded no. I looked back to the photographer beckoning us with open arms.
"Oh...alright," I said. I saw Rae's eyes go wide. "Why not. For posterity."
"For posterity, exactly," the photographer said as he gestured to the camera.
We handed him the $35 fee and took a seat.
"OK on 3," the photographer said, "1...2...3!" And there was a flash. He handed us a card. "Go to this site in about an hour. Picture will be posted."
Rae exchanged a few words and shook the man's hand. We took the card and continued on our way. Later, in the hotel I pulled up the website he gave us: 404 ERROR. WEBSITE DOES NOT EXIST.
I looked over at Rae, sitting on her bed. "Did we just get - "
"Yep." She was playing with something on her wrist.
"What's that?" I asked.
"Oh, this?" she asked, smiling, holding up a shiny gold watch, "Just a little souvenir I swiped from our photographer friend." Then after a second, "For posterity."
