EXT. PUBLIC STORM SHELTER- EVENING
Hayden, Jordon, and Pauline are outside as more people head to the shelter. The building is a public community center with building properties of a storm shelter. They can see the line of storms coming in. The sun is beginning to set.
PAULINE: Photogenic storm clouds.
JORDON: I agree.
He snaps photos. Hayden rolls his eyes while Pauline also seems to have enough of his attitude.
JORDON (CONT'D): I wish I could chase this one.
HAYDEN: Are you kidding me?
Jordon glances at Hayden.
JORDON: What's your problem?
Hayden turns to Pauline.
HAYDEN: I think we should decide on the future of our team.
Jordon overhears and lours at Hayden.
JORDON: Can you speak louder?
Hayden glares back at Jordon.
HAYDEN: I think you should be kicked out.
Jordon lightly laughs.
JORDON: Why? I'm the leader and driver of the group.
He walks closer to Hayden, chuckling. Hayden doesn't look nervous as his arms are folded.
JORDON (CONT'D): And you're just a pu-
HAYDEN: I'm not folding. If I'm the coward, then you're a hedonist.
[Beat.]
HAYDEN (CONT'D): You steered right onto the path. You totaled your truck! Now, we are at this shelter without a damn vehicle and away from home. Your insurance is going to hate you now.
JORDON: If it were for you, we wouldn't be out here.
HAYDEN: I can handle storms, but I care about my friends in the car! You don't! You put Paulie's and I's life at risk, only caring about yourself. You're also using your brain and awareness to make better chasing decisions.
Hayden glances at Pauline.
HAYDEN: How many times has he done this with only you?
PAULINE: Quite a few.
JORDON: She doesn't whine like you do, little man.
Hayden snaps back.
HAYDEN: She's your friend! You argued with her until she screamed. How long will it take before you get you and your friends killed? First, in the ditch. Second, getting hit by an EF4. You're lucky we survived with no injuries. What's next?
JORDON: Shut up!
HAYDEN: Do you have anything to say, Jordon? (pause) How can we save lives and enjoy the ride while you don't give a crap about ours?
Everson family and Elaine arrive at the public shelter. Treck notices those two fighting with Pauline standing to the side.
TRECK: (glancing at Maria) Get them inside.
Maria nods as she leads the kids inside the shelter as Treck walks over to the team.
JORDON: You're fired.
HAYDEN: Such a boss making it hard on employees!
JORDON: It'll just be Paulie and I again.
PAULINE: I quit.
Hayden and Jordon stop and stare at Pauline. Jordon is in disbelief.
JORDON: Paulie, what the hell?
PAULINE: I'm tired of the hostility when it comes to suggestions on our position on storm chasing. Hayden's concerns are reasonable, and you blew him off.
JORDON: Don't do this now because of Hayden. Don't let it ruin our friendship.
PAULINE: It's not because of him. I'm not saying we're not friends anymore.
She walks close to Jordon, getting up to his face.
PAULINE (CONT'D): It's you. (walks away) I'll not put myself in a heap of risk with a reckless driver.
TRECK: (to Pauline) Is everything okay?
PAULINE: Storm chasing gone wrong.
Jordon and Hayden escalate into a physical fight. Pauline and Treck hear and see the commotion. They both rush to get in-between and stop it. Pauline is in front of Jordon, while Treck is in front of Hayden.
PAULINE (CONT'D): Hey! Hey! Cut it out!
They manage to stop it. Hayden has a bloody nose from Jordon's punch.
PAULINE (CONT'D): You're proving Hayden right more. You're assaulting a teammate.
JORDON: A former teammate! You're not a friend anymore, Paulie. You're a traitor.
TRECK: (to Hayden) You okay?
Hayden nods while wiping blood from his mouth.
TRECK (CONT'D): C'mon. Let's get you a towel. We can talk about it on the way down.
Treck and Hayden walk away from Pauline and Jordon. Jordon watches intensely while Pauline is blocking him.
PAULINE: Take an Uber back to Texas. We're going in separate vehicles. I don't feel like contacting you for a while.
Jordon is breathing heavily, angry and frustrated. His fists clench.
PAULINE (CONT'D): (points to the storm) Don't go chasing the storm or filming it. (pause) I still don't want to see you get killed.
She walks away.
PAULINE (CONT'D): Take care, Jordon.
Jordon stays silent. He watches her. He sighs and picks up his phone when she is inside, out of earshot. He has been live-streaming all this time. Based on the sour reactions in the chat, they heard everything. He turns his face towards the camera.
JORDON: Sorry, you have to hear that. (pause) Bunch of assholes.
