SUBJECT DESIGNATION: Bogmire – “The Shadowy Misery”

CLASS: Type V Spectral Entity (Amalgamate / Emotional Wraith)

CONTAINMENT STATUS: Secured within Portrait Frame #009, “Manifestation of Sorrow”

THREAT LEVEL: Very High (Psychic / Manifestation Instability)

IDENTIFICATION

Apparent Age: Indeterminate

Origin Type: Non-human; conglomerate of spectral emotions

Post-Mortem Appearance: A shifting, shadowy humanoid mass composed of viscous ectoplasm. Features appear and vanish within its form—faces, hands, and hollow eyes that never stay long enough to identify. A faint, perpetual mist surrounds the entity, thickening with increased emotional distress. When agitated, Bogmire divides into lesser wraiths resembling its own silhouette.

BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD

Bogmire is a spectral anomaly unlike any other found within the mansion. Unlike the other portrait ghosts, no living records, photographs, or burial references exist to suggest it was ever human. Instead, field readings indicate that Bogmire was born within the mansion itself—a metaphysical condensation of grief, guilt, and unresolved pain.

Following the deaths of the household residents, the mansion’s psychic environment reached critical saturation. It is theorized that the structure’s cumulative sorrow, fear, and resentment began to self-organize, eventually forming a sentient consciousness. That consciousness manifested as Bogmire.

Locally referred to as “The Shadow in the Graveyard,” Bogmire serves as both parasite and warden—feeding on fear while unintentionally binding other lesser spirits to the estate. It is thought to be the emotional “heart” of the mansion’s curse, its presence stabilizing the spectral network that links all portrait ghosts.

CAUSE OF FORMATION (THEORETICAL ANALYSIS)

As Bogmire lacks a mortal origin, its “death” cannot be measured in conventional terms. The following hypotheses are supported by Professor E. Gadd’s parapsychological framework:

Ectoplasmic Coalescence Hypothesis:

Negative emotional energies—grief, hate, confusion—gathered over decades, eventually condensing into semi-physical form within the graveyard’s soil. The high concentration of death resonance acted as a crucible, “birthing” Bogmire as a sentient byproduct.

Wraith Genesis Theory:

Bogmire represents the mansion’s cumulative spiritual infection. As humans perished and lingered, their regrets merged, producing a psychic echo too dense to dissipate. This echo gained primitive sentience, eventually becoming predatory.

Metaphysical Reflection Model:

Some believe Bogmire is not alive nor dead, but a reflection—a distorted mirror image of the mansion’s collective soul. If the mansion were ever purified or destroyed, Bogmire might vanish as well.

Regardless of origin, Bogmire’s very existence defies conventional spectral taxonomy. It is not one ghost, but many, compressed into one sorrowful being.

PARANORMAL CHARACTERISTICS

Behavioral Pattern: Non-verbal, emotion-driven. Manifests as both mist and form. Attacks intruders instinctively when threatened but displays retreat behavior under bright light or vacuum suction.

Manifestation Site: Mansion Graveyard—specifically within the fog-heavy mausoleum basin, a liminal point where spiritual energy density is highest.

Activity Cycle: Constant low-level presence; full manifestation occurs during electromagnetic storms or upon emotional disturbance of other entities nearby.

Notable Abilities:

Shadow Duplication: Can create multiple clones from its own ectoplasmic essence. These entities act autonomously but share a collective awareness.

Fear Amplification: Intensifies emotional distress in living beings, drawing strength from their fear response.

Mistform Regeneration: Able to dissolve into fog and reconstitute elsewhere within its domain.

Psychic Drain: Feeds on guilt, sorrow, and despair, converting emotional energy into physical form.

Environmental Distortion: Alters temperature and visibility in a 15-meter radius. Observers report time dilation effects and spatial looping during encounters.

PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE

Bogmire exhibits rudimentary intelligence but no recognizable language. Instead, it communicates through emotion—waves of sadness, dread, and confusion felt telepathically by nearby observers.

Attempts at direct communication have failed; however, researchers theorize it understands empathy. When exposed to calm, harmonious energy (such as low-frequency heart resonance recordings), Bogmire’s form becomes less aggressive and more defined, suggesting it recognizes peace but cannot sustain it.

Some field researchers describe encountering fragments of voices—whispers resembling those of other ghosts—emanating from within Bogmire. These may be echoes of souls that merged into its being, trapped within a communal torment.

CONTAINMENT PROCEDURES

Captured during Operation LM-GH/09 following Luigi’s traversal of the graveyard and disruption of Bogmire’s energy pool. The subject’s physical form was destabilized via Poltergust energy vortex, which dispersed its wraith fragments and forced consolidation into a single core mass.

Contained in Portrait Frame #009, reinforced with triple-layered ectoplasmic dampeners and quantum-null glass. Frame is stored in Vault D, isolated from other high-activity entities to prevent psychic contamination.

All maintenance personnel must undergo mood stabilization screening prior to exposure; individuals displaying elevated grief or depression are strictly prohibited from approaching Bogmire’s frame.

Weekly energy readings are required to ensure the entity remains dormant. Any mist leakage or unexplained temperature drop in Vault D should be reported immediately to Parapsychology Command.

NOTES FROM PROF. E. GADD

“Now here’s a ghost that wasn’t supposed to be. Bogmire’s what happens when sadness takes shape—and believe me, sadness has teeth. It’s fascinating and tragic all at once. If the mansion had a soul, this would be it… a miserable, beautiful monster made of everyone’s pain.”
