SUBJECT DESIGNATION: Spooky – “The Guard Dog”
CLASS: Type II Spectral Entity (Animal / Guardian-Class Manifestation)
CONTAINMENT STATUS: Secured within Portrait Frame #008, “Faithful Beyond Flesh”
THREAT LEVEL: Low to Moderate (Territorial / Reactive Manifestation)
IDENTIFICATION
Full Name (During Life): “Spooky”
Species: Canis lupus familiaris (Breed Indeterminate; presumed mastiff lineage)
Apparent Age: ~7 years (approx. 49 in human equivalent)
Post-Mortem Appearance: A semi-transparent hound with spectral musculature visible beneath a thin, glowing hide. Eyes emit a dull amber luminescence. The entity’s jaws are exaggerated—elongated and dripping with ectoplasmic saliva. Emits faint growls at frequencies below human hearing range, causing unease and minor vertigo in sensitive subjects.
BIOGRAPHICAL RECORD
Spooky was once the beloved guard dog of the mansion’s owners, bred and trained to protect the property from trespassers. Mansion records mention him as “ever vigilant, ever loyal.” He was often seen patrolling the courtyard and near the servants' quarters, accompanying the butler Shivers (see File #LM-005).
After the mansion’s decline and the deaths of its inhabitants, Spooky remained on the grounds, waiting for commands that would never come. Neighbors reported hearing distant howls long after the house fell silent. By the time Professor E. Gadd’s investigative teams arrived, only spectral traces and bone fragments remained.
In death, Spooky’s loyalty did not wane—his ghost continues to guard the grounds, hostile toward any intruder it perceives as a threat to its “masters.”
CAUSE OF DEATH (THEORETICAL ANALYSIS)
Parapsychological review suggests multiple plausible causes:
Starvation: After his master's death, Spooky likely remained faithful to his post, refusing to abandon the estate. Without sustenance, his body would have wasted away, leaving his spirit bound by loyalty and confusion.
Natural Death (Old Age): At approximately seven years old, Spooky’s age falls within the later stages of a large-breed dog’s life. It is possible he passed peacefully, yet his instinct to guard persisted beyond death.
Bound Guardian Theory: It is possible the mansion’s supernatural energy—saturated by death and grief—prevented him from crossing over naturally. His devotion may have tethered his spirit to the physical grounds indefinitely, creating a perpetual “watchdog loop.”
Residual readings indicate emotional frequencies consistent with loyalty, anxiety, and fear rather than aggression. His attacks are believed to be defensive rather than predatory.
PARANORMAL CHARACTERISTICS
Behavioral Pattern: Patrols the courtyard, garden, and graveyard sectors of the estate. Responds to footsteps, heartbeats, and breathing patterns of intruders. It will manifest fully when agitated.
Manifestation Site: Primarily the graveyard adjacent to the courtyard; occasional sightings near the doghouse, which still exists in partial form.
Activity Cycle: Nocturnal; strongest activity occurs between 2 AM and 4 AM, during atmospheric humidity spikes.
Notable Abilities:
Spectral Bark: Produces concussive shockwaves capable of minor kinetic displacement within a 2-meter radius.
Ectoplasmic Bite: Can inflict temporary paralysis or mild soul displacement on contact.
Grave Disturbance: Known to summon or stir minor undead activity from the soil when in distress, indicating residual necrotic control.
Olfactory Tracking: Displays high sensory awareness; able to detect living entities through walls and across rooms via ectoplasmic scent perception.
PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE
Spooky exhibits traits of extreme loyalty, anxiety, and confusion. He appears to lack comprehension of his own death, continuing to “guard” the premises with a faithful but misguided sense of duty.
Unlike more malicious entities, Spooky does not pursue victims beyond the courtyard perimeter. His aggression subsides once a subject leaves his designated patrol area. Observations suggest he may be guarding not out of anger but love—his sense of purpose bound to a home that no longer lives.
Exposure to calming frequencies (between 340–360 Hz) or the scent of dog food has been shown to pacify the entity temporarily, indicating trace memory retention.
NOTES FROM PROF. E. GADD
“Spooky’s one of the few I almost felt sorry for. Poor pup doesn’t understand why his masters never came home. He’s got more heart than some of the people I’ve studied! Just... make sure nobody brings a vacuum cleaner near his frame unless you like being barked at in two dimensions.”
