Fate.
She just needed a break from the world. He just wanted to forget the ex. But fate... fate had other plans.

Dear Diary: Today, I fell. Hard. Unexpectedly. Never would I have thought that I'd ever think that today would've gone the way it had when I woke up this morning. From the breakfast reservation to the spa appointment I've had scheduled, I had everything all planned out. This wasn't supposed to happen. I swear, diary. Honest. This was not supposed to happen.
Today began like any other. The sun rose high above the clouds. People flooded the beaches the very second the day started, just to watch as the waves crashed into the sand at our feet. Seagulls stuck closeby, harassing anyone whom they expected to fall victim to their hungry stares. The day started out like any other.
There I sat at the same small two-seater table I would always find myself every morning. Like clockwork. My best friend Claudia sitting across from me as she'd nibble on the same toast of eggs she brought every morning since we've arrived. Her weakness, really; toast and eggs. Not me. Nah. I decided that maybe today, out of all days, I should change up my morning. Try something different. Instead of the usual coffee and omelet order I've gotten since I arrived here, I decided to stick my toe straight into the deepend and buy myself a plate of pancakes. There was just something deep inside my gut telling me that today was the day to change up my routine- and I listened. Shockingly.
"So," Claudia proceeded to ask just as I shoved a forkful of pancakes into my mouth, "what time should we meet up for our appointment?"
"Mm?" I quickly covered my mouth, finishing my chewing before answering her, "For the spa?"
"Is there another appointment that we had set for today?" She let out a short giggle, covering her own mouth to hide the eggs she just shoveled inside.
I let off a slight chuckle as well, "Well, it is at 3pm today, so how 'bout we meet up over there around 2:30? That should give us plenty of time to explore the islands. Unless you wanted to hang out together?"
"I think I have my eye on something I've been wanting to do since we've arrived." She smirked, lowering her sunglasses so that I could see her twinkling hazel-green eyes sparkling in the daylight.
"You aren't thinking of-"
She was nodding before I could even finish my sentence, a smile spread from cheek to cheek as she flashed her pearly whites, "She texted me last night... asked if I was interested in seeing some places she highly recommends."
"Great." I let off a sly chuckle, "My best friend is going to leave me in the dust to have some cute summer romance with a girl she just met a few days ago."
"Hey." She shrugged, "I may have just met my soulmate."
"You said that about the last fifteen girls." I laughed out loud.
Claudia gave me a light tap on the arm, "What about you? Any pre-spa appointment plans I should know about?"
"Nothing like what you've got." I smiled slightly, "I'll probably just stall until 2:30. Not all of us could easily pick up others with a flick of the hair."
Claudia placed her hand on mine, her voice softer than before as she chose her next words carefully, "You can pull anyone you wanted, Ava. Trust me."
"Yeah right."
"Hey." She threw her hands up, "Any guy would be lucky to have claim on you. Even I feel like I won the lottery being able to know you every day."
"You're sweet." I felt a slight blush rush to my cheeks.
Checking her phone as she jumped up out of her chair, taking one final bite from what was left of her toast, Claudia smiled at me, "She's ready to show me the sights!" By the tone of her voice, she was obviously excited.
"Don't forget about me." I told her, giving off a little wave as she waved back... heading off towards the beach to where I assume was the meet up spot. One thing about Claudia, she will always find a way to be entertained on vacation.
There I sat. Gazing out at the ocean in the far distance. The crashing waves at big lengths. People wading at different points of the water, just itching to get their feet wet. Taking another bite of the pancakes on the plate in front of me, I couldn't help but silently people watch those who went past. Couples sat across from one another; either with their own plates or sharing one as they discussed happily amongst one another. People walked past with their dogs leashed, just happy and excited to finally get some fresh air (both the human and their four-legged family member).
There I sat. Gazing out at the open world in front of me. Shoveling pancakes deep into my mouth in the most unattractive, unsettling way possible. Observing life as it was passing me on by. Enjoying the life that was handed to me on a silver platter. There I sat. An excellent observer of the open world.
"You look mighty lonely for someone who's supposed to be on vacation." A deep voiced, brunette guy stood in front of my table. His wide smile could heal sadness with just one flash of them pearly whites.
"I was just-"
"Observing the world as it's handed to you?" He smiled.
"How'd you-"
He sat himself down in the empty seat across from me, "I know the feeling. You think you're the only one who's ever sat lonely in the middle of a busy little cafe before?"
I let off a flirtatious giggle without realizing it.
"There's no way you came to this island alone," He told me, "Boyfriend hanging out on the waves?"
"I don't-" I found myself blushing, "I'm here with my best friend, but-" My eyes fell towards the beach before gazing back towards him.
"She found herself a little activity to do?" He smirked, "Didn't involve her best friend, I take it."
"Didn't really feel like I should've intruded on her activity." I chuckled, "We don't have to meet back up again until 2:30 so I was just going to hang out until then."
"Nonsense." He stood up, holding out his hand, "That best friend of yours can't be the only one seeing the sights this place has to offer."
"I don't want to intrude." I found myself blushing.
"You can never intrude." His fingers intertwined with mine as he guided me out of my seat, "I can't just leave you all by yourself."
