With aching fingers, his knuckles cracked, popping with every movement. The inflammation pained him, taking every ounce of strength to hold back his tears.
"One, two, three. One, two, three."
A low f sharp was strummed.
THWACK!
Mizz Juniper struck the top of his hands with a rolled up music book. Reeling back, he remained still as pulling his fingers away from the keys would only bring further punishment.
"Once again, Charles. From the top. Rome wasn't built in a day, and prodigies weren't born yesterday. Nothing short of perfection is tolerated in my presence."
With shaky hands, he played.
