Fallacy

Out of time

By Kal AlveyPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

In the year 2050 humanity has reached a technological peak, but there was one person who was ahead of the rest, a young girl named Claire. She was a brilliant scientist who had developed a time machine, and she had become obsessed with changing the course of history.

Despite the amazing advances in science and medicine, Claire was extremely unhappy with how dogmatic society had become. She was often ridiculed for being alone in thinking things went wrong at some point in history. Everywhere she looked things just seemed....off to Claire.

One day, Claire set her sights on altering a critical moment in the past: the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. Claire had always admired this particular presidents beliefs and was the last point in history that didn't seem incorrect to how society should be. She believed that if she could prevent Kennedy's death, she could change the future for the better.

Knowing how unpredictable this undertaking could be, Claire triple checked her instruments and calculations. Reviewed the reports from Kennedy's death from November 22, 1963. Satisfied that she was as prepared as she could be, changed her clothes to period appropriate attire and strapped herself in for the maiden voyage of a lifetime.

Claire traveled back in time to Dallas on November 15th, 1963. She quickly realized that changing the course of history was much more difficult than she had anticipated. Everywhere she turned, she encountered unexpected challenges and obstacles.

Despite these difficulties, Claire was determined to complete her mission. She spent days scouring Dallas for any information that would help her prevent Kennedy's assassination. As she dug deeper, she uncovered a conspiracy that ran much deeper than she could have ever imagined.

Desperate to change the course of history, Claire made a bold move and approached Kennedy directly, warning him of the plot against his life. Kennedy was skeptical at first, but as the events of that fateful day unfolded, he began to believe that Claire was telling the truth.

With Kennedy's help, Claire was able to thwart the assassination attempt, and the President went on to lead the country into a new era of peace and prosperity. However, Claire soon realized that her actions had unintended consequences. The timeline had been altered, and the future was no longer what she had known.

The feeling that things weren't quite right only got worse. Claire's meddling with history changed everything, from the tallest skyscrapers to the smallest coin. It appeared to Claire that the group opposing Kennedy got stronger with him in office, and continued fighting to alter things rather than being satisfied with him eliminated.

Claire struggled to come to terms with the changes she had wrought, but in the end, she was forced to accept that she had made the best decision she could with the information she had. She returned to her own time, changed forever by her journey through history.

Standing in her apartment staring at her time machine she made a bold decision and destroyed it. She knew that as long as it remained she would always be tempted to use it again. All she could do at this point was focus her efforts on other ways to improve society, starting with undoing her own mistakes.

From that day forward, Claire dedicated her life to studying the consequences of her actions, always searching for a way to make things right. She knew that she could never undo what she had done, but she hoped that her research would help others avoid the same mistakes in the future.
