Evidence of memory
A tale of Samsara

The outside world was unknown to her, but she could see a glimpse of it through the window in his room. 'Where did he go?' She thought to herself. He just disappeared one day, without warning. Yet she was without surprise. Who would stay in such a place? When he could see the temptation before him.
She found herself looking through the window. She could see him, dragging himself along the ground. The window hadn't been shut correctly, so she had to wear an oxygen mask. 'Had he remembered his?' She thought to herself, or did he mealy just want to spend his final moments outside?
He was dragging his body, the heavy air had clearly started to bring a strain on his body. With that, he never looked back. He was over the hill now. Would he survive? She would never know. He was the only one who never covered his window. She now understood why everyone else covered up theirs.
After shutting the window correctly and closing his door, she marked it with a white cross, a symbol of a religion from the old world. It's said that their martyr sacrificed herself for all of humanity. Well, perhaps he also sacrificed himself, for if Eden was beyond the hill, then he would surly return soon, or perish as he did.
She didn't even know this man by name, she couldn't even recall ever speaking to him. No-one really spoke anymore anyway, for there was nothing to speak about. If all where to speak, then all would eventually succumb to the lust of the outside world. Or perhaps, everyone was destined for this fate eventually. These thoughts began to consume her, she had never put too much thought into it.
She wondered for a moment, if she would ever remember her own. It had been so long since someone had called her by her name, that she had eventually forgotten. Perhaps it wasn't even something important enough to remember anymore. She couldn't even remember how she had made it to the sanctuary.
No one truly knew why the air outside had become so toxic, why everything surrounding had crumbled to pieces. Some say it was because of greed. Some say it was because of anger. Other said it was because of fear. 'But if no one was speaking, then how could people say such things?' She asked herself
All she knew was that her people were on the verge of death; just about hanging on to dear life. Perhaps the man was right. Maybe now was a good time to die. Or perhaps to risk death for freedom. The final sanctuary was a prison once. After the collapse, it didn't really stop being one. 'How do I know this?' She questioned to herself.
She decided on one final sleep then she would make her venture into the unknown. She looked around and saw no-one to say her final goodbyes to. This was it, it was time to face the unknown. The eve of her discovery ended like any other day. If days even still existed anymore, for it took over a year for the sun to set, and another year for it to rise again. 'where we the only ones left?' she puzzled to herself.
She woke up in a strange daze of feeling. Why she was feeling the way she did, she didn't understand. She looked over towards her surrounding walls and saw a white cross. A text next to the cross read 'For she sacrificed herself, for the sins of Eve.' Why was she able to understand this? These odd symbols. She then noticed her window.
Outside she saw a view like no other. She saw a hill in the distance. She couldn't remember why she knew its name, she just somehow knew that it was a hill. 'What is this place outside?' she thought to herself. Perhaps now wasn't the time to be looking outside, but it was so beautiful. The fog that surrounded the hill seemed to be making a strange sort of dance.
She now knew what she wished for, she had to see what was beyond the hill. So she climbed out of her window and made her way down the wall. It wasn't as high up as it seemed. She needn't even climb down, as the air was so dense it was able to cushion her fall.
As she made her way towards the hill, she felt herself getting heavier. It was hard to move now. She didn't know where she was, or where she had come from. All she knew, was to keep pushing forward. She dragged herself over the hill, through the relentless strain on her body, through every breathless gasp for the what little oxygen there was in the air. She persevered and pushed herself forward.
Finally, she was the top of the hill. She looked down, and saw something strange. Something silver. A round silver disk. She saw no reason why she shouldn't approach it, so she did.
As she approached the silver disk, something emerged from it. It was a tall figure, wearing something white. But the head had something black covering it. Whatever it was, she couldn't flee. Nor did she feel the need to. It grabbed her arm and pulled her towards the silver disk. She felt her eyes lose their ability to remain open. Her body was numb, unable to move. She felt at peace with herself, accepting that perhaps it was her time.
She didn't know anything of her surroundings. She was in a lush green space, looking toward the night sky. She hadn't seen stars in forever, had she ever even seen stars? She didn't know where she was, or where she came from.
There was silence, then there was a voice. 'who are you?' the voice asked. She sat herself up and looked over her shoulder. There was a man standing before her. She could only remember one name and assumed it was hers.

Anyway, here's a dumb little haiku:
The gunslinger draws
His opponent does the same
oh dear, they both died

Interesting poetic story. Your introduction haiku is awesome lol. I write a lot of satire stories and enjoy that kind of humor.
