Part 1: Eve
My name is Eve. Ever since the “New Dawn” regime began, everyone’s name now relates to a celestial or altruistic theme. We were told that it would remind us of where we came from and who we are. You see, my people and I lived on Earth for hundreds of years but before, we lived somewhere else. From what the history books have taught me, it was some place, some space outside of this one before the New Dawn happened. I am originally from Glenoie, a planet that hides just behind Titan, the moon of Saturn. We pride ourselves on having the cleanest ecosystem in the Universe. We are far more technologically advanced than those of Earth which has allowed our planet to be free of any pollution or waste. Our bodies have evolved to be their own recycle machines. Any bio waste or trash simply absorbs into our bodies and that acts as our energy source. Livestock and wildlife are free from fear of consumption because that is something simply not required by my people. There is no famine, war or natural disasters. We simply exist with each other and everything that surrounds us. Our political system is led by 3 leaders. Cheos is the leader of the professionals. He oversees and assigns jobs to those who are old enough to work and manages trade between the 3 sectors. Lias is the leader of the elderly. She oversees the retirement and medical treatment of the elderly. The elderly are the only ones of my people who may suffer from fatigue or illness. Lastly, there’s Effit. Effit is the leader of the hatchlings. These are the children of my population and Effit manages their care, oversees their growth and assigns them to their family. Together, Cheos, Lias and Effit forged the “New Dawn” program to purge Earth of their disasters. The New Dawn program was proposed as a means to take over the people of Earth. To seize control of their bodies and fill them with our own consciousness. That way, we could save this planet so different from our own from its ultimate demise. Originally, it was only the ones from the professional sector that were selected to go to Earth but then, we began to realize that the population of Earth was much larger than first imagined. Reports began to flood in about how the people of Earth must not have believed in self control because their population was overwhelming the planet. Scarcity of resources, water, food and even land to live were becoming inaccessible simply because these small minded people couldn’t be content with just having one offspring like the people of Glenoie were. So, the leaders decided to send the elderly to Earth. Even though their physical bodies weren’t up to the standards the Leaders agreed upon, it was only their consciousness that would be transferred. As more and more of the people of Earth began being filled with our mind and spirit, more issues started to arise. Crime so unimaginable to my people started booming. Lies began to spread that we were an alien species trying to consume the people of Earth and we were bloodthirsty. Rebel groups started forming of the disasters. Disasters was the term our leaders gave for the original inhabitants of Earth. The Disasters tried to harm my people even though we had their same physical form. After that, the leaders did what was necessary. They sent everyone including themselves and the Hatchlings to Earth and when that still wasn’t enough to conquer the last of the rebels, we had to do the unspeakable. We had to commit the first and only crime of our people, murder. It was painless as Lias had the knowledge of how to do it painlessly due to her work with the edlerly but we still mourned the act anyway. The leaders committed the acts in private as to not bring shame onto the rest of my people. The last loss of life was said to come from a female. She resembled the hatchlings and she wore a silver necklace with a pendant on it. The day was then turned into a global day of morning and the pendant was called a heart locket. Every year that goes on, we remember that final day as the Day of loss. A moment to reflect on what had to be done to ensure that the New Dawn Regime continued and from that day on, every female hatchling was granted with a silver heart locket. The locket would be opened on her 17th birthday and she would be given the chance to go back to the home planet of Glenoie or continue to stay on earth and become more and more human everyday.
The New Dawn Regime was a success. After 200 years of our slightly evolved human bodies taking in the copious amounts of carbon dioxide in the air, destroying the nuclear material along with other large feats, my people cleansed the planet. Earth was brought back to the brimming sphere of life and potential that it was created to be. Once more, there was no famine, disease or drought. The population had become stable enough for this planet to sustain those that lived on it. Eventually, our people were permitted to go back home whenever and if ever they chose. Most decided to go back to Glenoie but there were a few who decided to stay on Earth.
That is the history of my people and as I said, my name is Eve. The name that is supposed to remind me of who I am and where my home is. The home that I have never seen, the home that I have only been told about. I am Eve and tomorrow is my 17th birthday. I feel as if I am being choked by this silly silver heart around my neck. For 17 years, it has propositioned something I don’t even know. Something that no one on this Earth has seen. The primals were the first ones to come to this planet and they have long since passed away. The leaders Effit, Cheos and Lias have all been succeeded and their remains sent back to Glenoie. Yet, my friends chose to go back “home” upon their 17th birthday. Most of my family had chosen to go to this place they have never encountered before. Our Earth is said to be an exact replica of Glenoie so the appeal of going to some far distant place never seemed to thrill me. Wasn’t my name enough of a reminder of “where I come from”? Then, there’s this heart shaped promise of something that could change my life.
It’s the morning of my 17th birthday. My remaining friends and family members have gathered in my home to see what my choice is. My name, Eve, rings in my ears and the locket is beginning to tremble, becoming awakened by the proposition at hand. An ethereal violet glow starts emitting from the locket. We have been told that it’s the color of the sky in Glenoie as if it’s another form of persuasion to “return home”. The violet glow turns into two illuminated buttons begging the question “Yes or No?”. I take a deep breath and select the “Yes”. I am instantly being tossed and stretched in a wormhole still hearing the distant cheering of my remaining friends and family from earth, congratulating me on my choice. I am instantly filled with that violet hue so potent it almost seems alive. I see my friends and family that had made this journey only 2 months ago. I see that silver heart shaped locket and know that it wasn’t meant to be a reminder of Glenoie, it was meant to be a reminder of my work on Earth. My name is Eve and I am home.
