The wind swayed the mighty tall palm trees. Hawaii has been a beautiful place since Ian moved six years ago. It might be expensive, but he needed a break somewhere warm with such gorgeous scenery. The waves were crashing the many surfers, having the time of their lives. It was always a beautiful day, and work was just construction. He had worked with his hands his entire life.
In the distance, the great volcano stood and some smoke, an everyday scene. Ian enjoyed the wind through his hair and the sun on his skin despite burning too quickly. It was a typical sunny day, and walking to work was a perk since the price of gas had increased. All that mattered was getting his frustrations off his mind and living his life. The streets were busy with many pedestrians all going about their busy life. The sky stayed blue, and it was almost the weekend. He was almost at work and back to the grind of life. It is expensive, but a beautiful place did help with the depression after leaving the military. He has seen so much, yet there was a future.
He could hear the machines from his work site as he showed his id to enter the site. "Good morning and the boss want to see you, Ian," remarked Joe. He was the guard and his friend. "Well, I have been good this week with being on time too, but better go see him," Ian said.
The sky suddenly grew dark with a large crack in the sky. Everyone came out to see the noise. The volcano was spewing black ash into the air with flame seen. Panic could be seen in everyone's eyes. The mass rush of running and confusion was everywhere. Ian was running as fast as another.
Hearts racing and resting in a side street sees a woman. She is dressed well in high heels. Everything was in place, and she was scared and crying. Ian gently walked towards them with sweat running down his face. "We need to keep moving, or else it will kill you." She just looked at him and cried, "my feet hurt, and I want a helicopter to get me out." "There is no time, and I have a friend with a boat," replied Ian. "First, let's get you a pair of tennis shoes; we need to get out of here seriously." She just looked up but decided to trust him this time.
They ran to a store, and he headed to ladies' shoes. He yelled, "what size?" she just looked, and he said, "now," "Fine size 7 and get a fashionable pair." So he grabbed the first pair of yellow and brought them out. "These are the ones you choose." "Put them on, and let's get going. We are losing time." "Fine," and she puts the shoes on. "They are hideous," she remarked. "My name is Ian, yours?" "Tiffany, you common," she came back. "Now, let us get going before it gets down there," Ian yelled and grabbed her.
They started running, and the sky was still dark with revenge. The panic, like many others, was also trying to get out of the lava. Its deadliness can kill on contact. Buildings were slowly coming down with the flow. This was not an impossibility, but no one thought it could happen. Ian was pulling Tiffany as the crowd flowing.
She was crying and wanted to stop. Ian just looked at her and said, "we need to keep moving" "I just want to call in for a rescue now!" She screamed. "I also broke a nail." Ian just looked at her and said, "call who exactly? Everything is shut down now." "If they knew who my father was, they would," she answered. "The lava is coming, and it does not care" "Now we need to keep moving." Insisted on Ian, and they started moving again.
They had made it as far. However, the dock was a different route. Fighting the crowd became difficult because of the hustle. Ian had to bump and push to finally get the panicked group. Tiffany's makeup ran down her face as she followed behind him.
Out of the mad rush, they could finally breathe. He started down a street called Erwin Blvd.
She just stopped and refused to move. Her face was red and looked much worse than in the beginning. Ian just stepped back with her bloodshot eyes looking at him." You drag me through hell for what." Tiffany was livid. He just answered," do you have a death wish?" "I can leave you to die when and let you die a horrible death." "My friend has a boat, and we can get off the island and be safe." "Is it a yacht, or else it is nothing?" She yelled, then stormed off. "Fine get yourself off this island by yourself," Ian replied.
He then headed down some different streets. Next thing he knew, whimpering, Tiffany was hobbling behind him. Her perfect hair was messed up with her clothes rustled. She said nothing as she caught up. He just laughed despite her miserable appearance. "So, you want to get out of this place," replied Ian. Tiffany just looked at him and kept walking, saying nothing. The volcano can still be heard rumbling, reminding many of the desperate need to escape. The best bet was to get on anyone's boat. So many were heading to the main marina, but Ian was heading to another one.
Each street seems vacant. There was a massive amount of people impossible for anyone to drive. All that was destroyed and lost everything for one volcanic eruption. She just stopped falling over crying, "I want to go back to my hotel and get my stuff" He just looked at her and said, "It is gone; you just lost your extra stuff. I lost everything, including my home." She just looked at him and seemed irritated, "gone" "We are getting there; just hold on till we get there," remarked Ian. Pushing through the pain, Tiffany kept trying to keep up.
The long miles under the dark sky, scared looks on the faces trying to get away from such a disaster. Both were weary, but his military duty taught him to push himself beyond his belief. Each street was making everyone so tired. Despite the fatigue, Ian and Tiffany could not stop for too long.
After passing a smaller group of scavengers, they hid, trying not to be discovered. It was the last neighborhood to get to the marina. Ian slowly crept, trying to avoid them and Tiffany had to contain herself. Suddenly the looters ran off when one of the homeowners started shooting.
Ian and Tiffany ran past and finally to the marina to the boat. Ian yelled, "Pete, wait up." A man looked up and was relieved to see Ian. As Tiffany trailed, she just looked at the boat in disgust. "You call this a boat," she remarked. Ian finally said, "take it or leave it. This is your last chance off this island alive." Tiffany just jumped on and sat down but did not say another word as the boat drove to the safety of the sea. In one day, so many lost everything. Ian sat down, relieved, while Tiffany sat staring at the lava flowing.
