Escape From New York

The Red Dragon Flees

By Zay AeternumPublished 4 years ago 4 min read

Juxanni soared above the skyscrapers of New York, clandestine in his stealth mode, spy mission completed. Or so he thought. Helios, the Sun Prince, Heir to the Throne of Haven was not so easily fooled as the humans below and America’s primitive surveillance systems. Juxanni sighed. His ancestors dealt with beasts and demons, he had to deal with alien Gods. There was no need for stealth anymore, so he shut off his armor’s invisibility function and flew as his people did back home, haughty and for all the world to see. The arrogant godling smiled, his signature, a thing of white that made girls swoon and villains soil their pants.

He joined Juxanni, flying side by side in silence for a moment, orange cape fluttering in the wind. His corny ass. Juxanni had never liked the cape even when they were on the same side and it only irritated him even more now. Both waited for the other to speak and for a while silence reigned. Until Helios opened his stupid mouth to ruin it.

“ You know I’m going to have to take you in right? Nothing personal.”

Juxanni hissed, letting him know that it was indeed personal. Teammates and allies should not have to fight, especially when one of them knew full well they were wrong.

“ You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. Since when did might gods follow orders like peasants?”

“ Even Gods and kings must follow certain rules. You know that Jux. You are an emperor and I am a royal, we are held to an even higher standard.”

“ Like you said I am an emperor and you are a prince,” Juxanni made sure to add as much disrespect as possible to that prince word, “ Our responsibilities are nowhere near the same.”

“ So violence it is.” It was not a question.

“ Violence it must be, though I think this will hurt you way more than me.” Juxanni smirked.

Helios moved to punch him when Juxanni’s armor changed. His maroon armor changed into iridescent black, and he caught Helios’s punch midair. Juxanni grunted but he had gotten off easy. Darkstone severely weakened the power of Havens gods, enough for you to survive their normally fatal blows. Without it he would be missing an arm and be sent flying somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic.

Surprise, and a tinge of disappointment filled Helios’s face.

“ You never really trusted us did you?”

“ I trust no one who is not Tawhoran. Now begone!” Juxanni smirked wickedly.

His armor responded, glowing and filling the skyline with the light of Darkstone. Helios backed away but it was far too late. The wave of light hit him, ensnaring him in a cage of Darkstone energy which Juxanni gently directed to the top of a skyscraper. Helios banged his fists, slammed his sword, used his Heat vision and all but to no use. By the time he got out Juxanni would be chilling in his palace, A.I servants feeding him grapes.

“ Business is business. Sorry that it had to be you.”

Juxanni threw up the deuces, set his armor back to its regular mode, and sped off. He was getting close, but that little display of his had most certainly drawn attention. The other members of Vigilance would surely be upon him soon. No amount of tech and preparation would save him from their combined power. Luckily he was close. The cold waters of the Atlantic that his home and the East Coast shared was right up ahead. Once he crossed there he would be home free.

A strange smell troubled his nose the closer he got to the sea and he realized who and what it was immediately. An Atlantean, and there was only one Atlantean he knew comfortable enough to linger outside New York. Wave.

“ Gamesh, I know you are here. Show yourself.” Juxanni roared over the waves.

A figure covered in green started to rise with the waves, commanding the waters the same way a child might command a sink. Yellow fish eyes stared at him from the rising spiral and Juxanni knew what that meant. He was mad.

“ It has been a long time since you called me that, Juxy.”

Juxanni snarled. He never did like that nickname.

“ It has been a long time since you acted like a Gamesh. Let’s dance this dance so I can go home.”

“ Your new home is going to be a comfortable little cell.”

“ It would be in a morgue before that happens.” Juxanni roared, letting his wing lasers do the rest of the talking for him.

A wall of water blocked the strike, before it froze and launched icy missiles at him. He masterfully dodged all of them before launching an assault of his own.

“ Block this!”

The cannons on his shoulders, knees, wings, and helmet, delivered a salvo of laser fire towards his old teammate. Wave retreated, electing to go deeper into the water to avoid the strike. Just as Juxanni had wanted.

“ Ice Dragon Mode! Freeze fool!”

His maroon armor again changed, this time to an elegant blue and white palette. He swooped down, spraying the Atlantic Ocean with a freezing wave, turning the surface of the water into the Antarctic and trapping Wave underneath it. There would be no more water based attacks coming his way for a long time. Juxanni saw Wave trapped in a block of ice a couple meters down, mouth frozen in suspended animation, body still in doggy paddle trying to swim away. The fallen members of Vigilance would have a ball fixing his two little messes. Juxanni repressed a horrible smile, a smile that threatened to prove him every bit the monster he was portrayed to be with that thought. He turned to the East, for there Tawhoro, his empire awaited him.
