Once upon a time there laid a girl on a sail boat in the middle of the ocean… just drifting. When she would open her eyes, she gazed upon the northern lights as if in a dream. When reaching for them she knew no matter how much she yearned to join the lights within the stars, that she’ll always be bound to earth till her last breath. Dreaming big was a small sacrifice to her, since she’s already alone with no hope to go back home. As she slowly stood up the ocean got bigger, more vast, and colder. She held onto the pole of the sail and looked in all directions. Nothing but twilight skies all over, nowhere to call home, nowhere to be at peace.
When the cold breath of the wind caressed her face she flinched with a slight chill. When she looked down at the ocean and the ocean looking up back at her, both with stillness in their hearts, and even colder to the touch. She would see the reflection of the lights on the ocean and said “You’re still beautiful even when you keep me captive here with you …why do you want me here?“. As she continued the waves started a commotion, “You may be vast but what else can you show me?”. The waves began to rattle the boat till the girl rocked forward and fell in.
In the girls realization, ignored the darkness beneath her and only saw the light of the stars, and with boat in sight began to swim up. As she held her breath and the ocean within her, the ocean knew the only thing on her mind was to thrive and survive. That’s when pressure was pulling her down enabling her to swim back up. The girl panicked with desperation letting go of her breath as she tried to scream in the ocean.. but nothing came out only the pulling stopped. Almost out of breath the girl swam up and just before reaching the surface she looked down at the oceans depth, at its darkness.
The girl knew what she asked the ocean and so it was delivered. She knew the ocean wanted to make her feel what it felt. The ocean showed her how it feels, wether it be physical or emotional. It may have been wet , cold, or even suffocating but most of all it was alone. As she struggled to live.. to breath she felt in that moment how alone and cold she was. No one she could rely on to help her.. no one to call to. She had caught on while the ocean made her fight. When she reached the surfaced she gasped for air and quickly got on the boat. She hadn’t noticed it then but when she looked up the lights began to dim out and so did the feeling to her limbs.
She got up and looked back down at the ocean as she leaned on the pole and said “You know what you’re pretty salty.. but I’ll stay here with you”. She began to slide down the pole and she slowly closed then opened her eyes. She then smirked and told the ocean “Your still beautiful even when you showed me your pain.. we can be alone together then“. The girl exhaled enough to see her own breath and noticed how much she wouldn’t stop shaking, knowing there was nothing she could do told the ocean “I’m sorry I asked you to show me.. because now you’ll be alone again but it’s okay.. just promise me that I’ll be the last”. With that she took her last breath and the ocean stopped shining when the lights went out. Leaving her to drift alone.
