Dragon Valley

Amelia Moore Goes Missing

By KatPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

There weren’t always dragons in the valley. I would know. In my previous field journals I was studying the flora that thrived there. Now that the dragons are here it is far too dangerous to go back down there. My name is Amelia Moore, I am a researcher from a small village called Thurn. If you are reading this, I am most likely dead.

My current position observing the dragons on the cliff edge is not safe, as falling is a huge risk, and the dragons most likely can see and smell me. Though tonight I will experiment with some of my flora to see if there’s a way to cover up my scent. The dragons are nocturnal, so right now only one guard is awake. Today though, the biggest dragon is taking over that role. Her scales are a deep purple shade, like the petals of lycianthes rantonnetii. She has many scars and looks like a dragon you should avoid. After observing their patterns for a few weeks it appears the safest time to get close to them is Tuesday, as the citrine yellow dragon seems to skip her shift to guard in favour of sleep. Another option would be Saturday, as the Parker green dragon often has her back turned and prefers to sing rather than keep guard. The dragons appear to gather in groups of 5-7 females, as I have never seen a male dragon, never mind in the group that’s nesting here. There is very little I can do to continue my research here. I must figure out a way to get closer.

Aha! I have created the perfect perfume to mask my smell! Though I have my doubts humans will like it, it will help me blend in with my surroundings for my trip tomorrow. Whoever would’ve thought that all I had to do was make perfume with the corpse flower (and a few roses, those corpse flowers are very accurately named! I had to make it ok to wear without passing out) and dilute it with water! Naturally I added a few other things too, but I’ll leave the recipe in the back of this journal. I have also made a suit out of corpse flower petals and other flora to help me get closer to the dragons than any human has ever been undetected! Well I say human, though I’m not exactly human myself, am I? if only my mother were alive, then I wouldn’t have to use these silly human methods to get close to dragons. Maybe one day I’ll find someone like me, but for now, I need to finish stitching these petals together. I only hope that tomorrows trip goes well…

“The pages stop there” Camilla sighed, sitting on the edge of the same Cliff Amelia Moore sat on 10 years ago. “We’ve read all 5 of her journals, and there’s nothing about dragon’s weaknesses.” Robyn wandered over to her girlfriend and sat down next to her. “Face it Cam, the dragons rule the valley, and we are not the witches from the prophecy!” she sighed. “Thurn’s elders were wrong.” Camilla shook her head. “Excuse you! We are two witches, one with green hair and the other with blue hair, who are dating. no one else in the village have those traits!” she exclaimed, staring at Robyn angrily. “no one ever said the witches were from Thurn. Plus I don’t want to be a part of a prophecy. I just want to spend my life with you.” Camilla’s heart melted. She pulled Robyn into a hug and whined: “Robyn! You jerk! I can’t stay mad at you when you’re like this!” the two stood up to leave, but Camilla paused to stare at the dragon castle in the valley. Amelia Moore never would’ve thought that the dragons were intelligent enough to take over. She wondered where Amelia was now, if she was even still alive. But Camilla knew Amelia was too intelligent to die at the hands of the dragons. Her 4th journal was full of survival tactics for all situations! She knew Amelia was still out there, and she was determined to find her. One of the dragons flew over her head towards the castle, with a large sack in its mouth. She turned away from it, walking back to Thurn with Robyn.
