Different Paths: A Journey of Perspectives
How a single event reveals the diversity of human reactions

This is the story of a young man who once experienced an unexpected incident. He was travelling by an AC bus, which had a higher fare than a regular bus. He chose this bus hoping to reach his destination on time, as he had heard these buses were faster.
Initially, everything was fine, but soon, the bus began making a loud, disturbing engine noise. It was unnerving. The driver and conductor discussed the problem and tried to fix it while the bus was still in motion, but nothing worked.
Eventually, they discovered the source of the noise – it only occurred when the AC was switched on, and would stop when the AC was turned off.
The driver and conductor decided to head to the nearest bus depot to get the issue fixed. When they arrived, they asked the passengers to disembark at the gate, while they took the bus inside for repairs. After about 15 minutes, the conductor called the passengers back on board. The bus started moving, but it was slow. The conductor informed everyone that the AC was still malfunctioning, and they couldn’t continue the 4-hour journey with the windows closed and the AC off. He assured the passengers that they would try to find another AC bus for them and asked everyone to disembark again.
At this point, a man in his 50s suddenly shouted at the conductor, "This is your problem, not ours! You should have checked the bus before letting us board." The conductor tried to calm him down and asked everyone to wait by the roadside while they worked on finding another bus.
The conductor promised to help the passengers board either another AC bus or a regular one. This angered many passengers, especially the man who had been shouting. He declared himself a press reporter and threatened to block the road unless a replacement bus was arranged immediately. Other passengers, however, disagreed with his approach, suggesting they work with the conductor to resolve the situation peacefully.
The reporter continued shouting for a while but eventually fell silent. The conductor tried to flag down passing buses, but most refused to stop. Some buses were willing to take passengers, but there were no available seats. Frustration grew as half the passengers boarded standing, while the other half refused to board and argued with the driver and conductor.
After an hour, the situation escalated as more passengers, including the young man, began raising their voices, demanding a solution. Local press reporters arrived and started recording the chaos. The conductor, desperate for a resolution, made several calls to his higher-ups. Eventually, two officials from the bus depot arrived and assured the passengers that an empty regular bus would be sent shortly.
Soon after, a regular bus arrived, and the passengers boarded. The original driver and conductor continued the journey, leaving the malfunctioning AC bus by the roadside for someone else to handle. As the young man sat on the new bus, he reflected on the events that had unfolded.
"I didn’t expect this to happen, but it did," he thought. "It was a long delay for me and everyone else. Some passengers might have had emergencies, and others, like me, were likely too tired to stand for so long. But throughout the entire ordeal, the conductor didn’t seem to care about the passengers’ needs. He was only concerned with his own."
The young man also thought about the different ways people had reacted to the situation:
- He himself hadn’t said much, just raised his voice once. He knew the conductor wouldn’t go out of his way to help.
- The press reporter had made a scene, only to disappear when the situation dragged on.
- Another young man was nearly ready to physically confront the conductor but eventually gave up.
- A middle-aged man had yelled continuously at the conductor but only started after others had raised their voices.
- Many women shouted for a while before going quiet.
- A young off-duty policeman, also a passenger, chose not to get involved, saying, "I’ve worked 20 days straight without a break. I’m not on duty now, so if you want, report this to the nearest police station."
- The driver and conductor, likely unaware of the issue beforehand, seemed more concerned with getting rid of the passengers than finding a real solution.
- Some passengers didn’t wait and boarded other buses, even if they had to stand for the entire 4-hour journey.
In this situation, there was only one problem, but it prompted many different reactions. Who was right? The young man believed it depended on each person's boundaries. When their limits were crossed, they reacted by raising their voice or taking action.
The young man took a lesson from the experience. Although he hadn’t spoken up much this time, he knew that if faced with a similar situation in the future, he would be more assertive.
Sometimes, it takes an experience like this to prepare you for the next time life throws a challenge your way.
