Dark day. She reached the bus stop, head down, shoulders hunched. The sun warmed her head, incongruous to her mood. The sun should not be here on this dark day.

Elise leant self-consciously on the glass and kept her eyes trained on the cracks in the pavement, not wanting to see the other potential passengers. The deep belly rumble of the approaching bus and its urban smell taunted her senses and for a moment, she regretted what she was about to do.

With a squeal and a hiss, the bus arrived. Elise climbed hesitantly on board, hoisting her backpack higher.
