"Colel didn't tell you did he", she heard an ominous voice say from behind her.

Today she had gone out exploring on her own for a short time. She had decided to stroll around in nature before going to a historical site. Colel had allowed her a couple hours to herself. He told her to stay vigilant, which had made her laugh. Now it didn't seem so silly. She looked behind her, over her shoulder. There was a man with a navy baseball cap. It had a stiff brand new appearance to it. He was in a navy colored t-shirt and dark blue jeans. On his feet, bright white sneakers. The sneakers also had the appearance of being brand new. He would have been fairly forgettable except for his shoes being so bright white that they drew attention. It seemed odd to her.

"He is interested in you because you have the bloodline. He didn't tell you everything, did he.", the man said plainly.

"Wrong, he did. Look I don't know who you are or how you know Colel, but...", she tried to say.

"The bloodline of the two original opposites. The true first good and evil. That of the true hearts, and of the true deceiver. He is part of the bloodline. The original, not the other later or adjacent one's. This is an important aspect of the serpent myths and council."

"Look sir I don't know what drugs you have taken, but.....she stopped. Mr. Manzanillo?"

"The twin serpents. Female and male. The original start of all of this."

She stopped. Had the man she was seeking come to her. This was too convenient. She felt blessed at how easily this situation had come together. Scared at what a lunatic he seemed to be.

"You are him. The one who broke off.", she said in amazement. Mr. Manzanillo, that's you."

"Maybe I could be if it's necessary. So he told you something about a Mr. Manzanillo? What? He's dangerous."

"Maybe."

"Colel hasn't told you why he needs you. Who do you think you should believe. I'm not hiding information or myself."

"Except for your real identity?", she pointed out.

"Pen names for a writer are masks that allow them to unmask themselves. Why should people be any different? Maybe Colel could tell you if he had a way to denote it wasn't just his will."

"Maybe he is working up to telling me. He has a plan for how he wants information to unfold", she says. Afterall, she hadn't told him everything either.

"Do you want to at least hear me out.", the man asked.

"Why not, I love a good story. Nowhere too private though. I don't know you.", she responds.

"And I must be dangerous. Fair enough, follow me.", he says humorously annoyed.

With that she was in tow of this strange man. He walked at a casual pace. His casual demeanor made her more anxious. She wondered what he could possibly have to share. To her surprise he chose a busy market as the location for the conversation.

"No one will care here. People have their own business to do. So you know of the twin snakes?", he asks expecting confirmation.

"Everyone in these studies has. There is a little book called 'The Cosmic Serpent DNA and the Origins of Knowledge' by Jeremy Narby. Not exactly a secret.", she says.

"I'm not sure you've read it fully. I can't tell from your description.", he replies.

"Would it help if I did? Or lessen me if I only half did?", she questions.

He ignores this last response and continues, "Yes the idea of twin snakes. The bible tells of an evil snake, but there is often a dual nature or yin and yang etc. Meaning there is also a good snake. The intent is often the only thing hidden in life. Either way, in history there was a couple. One in the couple was a true deceiver, the other a true heart. The true deceiver worked with another true deceiver in a different relationship. They deceived inorder to stay together. Their efforts were to make the true hearts appear as the deceivers. Thus, others would look the other way when the two deceiver's would be together. They could remain, in a way, together. One true heart became aware of the situation. The true heart tried to tell many.  Due to this, the other true heart became aware, as the first had. Each was in love with the like of the other couple now. It wasn't that they didn't love, in some way, the one they were with. The love just stemmed from different 'whys'. The true hearts felt used. The true deceivers embarrassed. The deceivers loved eachother and the true hearts loved eachother out of respect and understanding. However, none of them could leave the relationship they were in after the knowledge came to light. The true hearts couldn't let another be deceived and the deceivers couldn't let the true hearts go knowing what they knew. Also, the true deceivers needed to keep up appearances so as to not lend truth to what the true hearts had been saying. At the same time something else was at work, some other lawful mysterious binding that had awoken with such knowledge. Eventually One true heart and one true deceiver died. Out of grief, the two remaining decided to have a child as a way of keeping their own and other alive. It was also the first time non traditional conception was used. This immense decision saved humanity and stopped whatever had been awaken from completely taking hold. The act in itself was completely selfish and selfless all at once for both sides. Both were understanding of this and for once could find even ground. This is where the twin snakes of DNA comes in; Good and Evil. This single act spared humanity, but started these opposing poles as a way of life. This is also the root of most unhappiness and the root of man or humanity. Colel believes you are a descendant of one side, which I don't know yet. Better, maybe a descendant of the child The two bore. Colel is as well, did you know that? The true deceivers often argue the true hearts are evil, but for our discussions we will say the deceivers are the evil one's. It's all nuanced."

She sat there stunned. None of this was what she was expecting to hear. None of this seemed real. Good vs evil had not really interested her. It seemed an argument for the less enlightened. She picked up her necklace and rubbed it between her fingers nervously. Even stranger she couldn't believe this man in front of her expected her to believe this information any further than believing a folktale. They looked around the same age.

"I don't know what you are talking about. What are you saying?", she responded.

"I'm saying there is a reason you are of interest to Colel. There is a reason you are a keeper. You think just anyone would be trusted? That they just liked your family? Come on! Tell me you are not that naive?!"

She had nothing to respond with.

"I could help you discover who you are descended from?"

"What would I have to do?"

"Nothing, just show me your book and get Colels."

"I don't know what books you are talking about. No, I don't want your help. I'm not a descendant of anyone you are talking about. I'm not that important. Sorry."

"Okay. I know you are. Be careful. Here if you want to get in touch with me call here. If you want my help.", he handed her a card that read Ken Kittredge with a phone number underneath.

She took the card and put it in her wallet. Her dark black snake skin wallet with a lime green zipper. The inside was a dark purple. The white card stood out against the given contrast. She stared at it a moment longer before closing her wallet on it like a angry snake devouring a prey.

"What would be better to be descended from, for me? If any of this is true.", she asked.

"That's not the important part. Tell Colel hello for me.", he says as he gets up to leave.

"As Ken Kittredge?", she asks.

"Yes."

"Will do. What is the important part?", she inquires.

"Feel free to ask Colel about what we talked about. Just be aware.", he cautioned.

Both cautioned her the same. She kept herself facing him and began to back away slowly unsure of how to respond. She was voiceless as she thought about what it all could mean. Soon he was gone, disappearing into the market. She paused against a wall trying to decide what to do next. The wall acted as an icepack cooling her overheating body. Why had Colel not mentioned any of this. Who could she trust? She needed to relook at her book with this new information in mind and apply it to the images and readings. Could she get her own blood analyzed and find the relative he was speaking of. She was starting to miss the safety of academia. When she had set out to find members of the serpent counsel she had never expected to find herself so involved and centered in it. She needed to find the advantage.
