Curves and Magic

Short Story

By W.E. CervantezPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

Once upon a time in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, there lived a plus-sized Chicana woman named Olivia. She was proud of her curvy figure and embraced her roots as a bruja, or witch, in the Mexican-American community. Olivia's deep connection to spirituality and her heritage was evident in her unique style, which combined traditional Mexican elements with modern fashion.

Despite her confidence and strong sense of self, Olivia often felt out of place in a society that placed a premium on thinness and Eurocentric beauty standards. She struggled with feelings of insecurity and inadequacy, especially when it came to romantic relationships.

One day, Olivia was invited to a party by her friend, Sandra. Although hesitant at first, Olivia decided to attend, hoping to meet new people and perhaps even find love. As she entered the party, she was greeted by a sea of thin, conventionally attractive women who seemed to dominate the room.

Feeling self-conscious, Olivia retreated to a corner of the room, where she noticed a handsome man sitting alone, sipping a drink. She felt drawn to him and decided to approach him.

"Hi there," Olivia said, trying to sound confident.

"Hello," the man replied, looking up and smiling warmly.

As they started talking, Olivia felt a connection with the man, whose name was Raul. They had a lot in common, from their love of Mexican food to their shared spirituality. As the night wore on, Olivia felt herself falling for Raul, but she couldn't shake the feeling that he might not be interested in her because of her size.

To her surprise, Raul asked her out on a date before the night was over. Olivia felt overjoyed and excited for what the future might hold.

Over the next few weeks, Olivia and Raul went on several dates and grew closer. Olivia felt happy and fulfilled, but she still struggled with feelings of insecurity. One day, she confided in Raul about her struggles with body image.

"You are beautiful just the way you are," Raul said, taking her hand. "Your curves and your heritage are what make you unique and special. Don't ever let anyone make you feel like you're not good enough."

Olivia felt a wave of relief wash over her as she realized that Raul truly saw her for who she was, not just her size or appearance. From that moment on, she began to embrace herself even more fully, channeling her inner bruja and rocking her unique style with even more confidence.

As their relationship deepened, Raul and Olivia continued to support each other in their respective journeys. They explored their spirituality together, delving into Mexican folklore and practicing traditional rituals. Olivia felt truly loved and accepted for the first time in her life.

One day, Raul surprised Olivia by taking her to a Dia de los Muertos festival, where they marveled at the vibrant costumes and intricate altars. As they strolled through the crowds, Raul suddenly got down on one knee and pulled out a ring.

"Olivia, I love you with all my heart," he said, his eyes filled with emotion. "Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"

Overcome with emotion, Olivia nodded and said yes. As they embraced, Olivia felt a sense of peace and joy wash over her. She knew that she had found her true soulmate, a man who loved her for exactly who she was.

From that day on, Olivia continued to embrace her identity as a plus-sized Chicana bruja. She shared her journey with others, inspiring them to love themselves and embrace their unique beauty. As she and Raul embarked on their new life together, Olivia knew that she was exactly where she was meant to be.
