Lilly sat on the beach watching the waves on the sea. Her mummy had bought her a bucket and spade, though she was only five years old, and she wasn't sure how to use them. Lilly's bright blue eyes sparkled and her beautifully soft, long, light brown hair blew gently to the rhythm of the sea breeze. She was thoughtful for a while, carefully observing the other children building sand castles on the beach. She watched them carefully lift the sand with their spades, emptying the sand into their buckets, then patting the sand down and tipping up the bucket, then patting the bottom of the bucket; finally, she saw them carefully lift the bucket away from the sand castle, revealing a beautiful masterpiece.

Lilly thought that the sand castles were lovely, though she didn't want to create hers like the other children. Her mummy had taught her that everybody was individually creative and that she should be creative in her own unique way.

Lilly thought about this for a second.

"What if I could create a real castle on a big hill?" said out loud, to herself.

Lilly's bucket was the shape of a real castle, and all she had to do was gather some sand and create a hill to put the castle on top.

Lilly set about her creative business.

She gathered plenty of sand and piled it into one big heap. She then gently patted all the sides so that the sand pressed firmly, forming a big hill. She carefully used her spade to fill her bucket, taking extra care to pat the top and smooth the sand, then she gently placed the bucket upside down on her big hill and patted the bottom of the bucket, taking great care when finally lifting the bucket off, in order to not spoil her masterpiece.

Lilly let out a squeal of delight; her sand castle had come out perfect for her! There were a few little lumps here and there,

but then again she was a child, and creation was magic for a child!

She wanted to make her sand castle the best.

She wanted it to be fit for a princess, like her!

She had read a lot of stories about princesses who lived in beautiful castles with little streams surrounding them.

"I'm a princess, and this is my castle; therefore my castle must have a stream too!" She said aloud.

Lilly took a few minutes to think about this; she noticed a group of two young girls next to her, who had created streams around their sand castles. She observed how the grooves circled their castle and held the water contained in them.

She then took a corner of her spade, and carefully trailed two grooves around her sand castle, being very careful to leave enough space between each groove so that she could add her water. She then headed to the sea to gather water to place in the grooves.

Lilly's mummy had always taught her about the dangers of the sea, so Lilly made sure that she collected her water from the edge of the sea only. She also made sure that her mummy went with her to collect the water, in case she got into danger.

Lily carefully carried her water back to her sandcastle, and carefully poured it in between the grooves; being mindful not to spill a drop.

Lilly let out another squeal of delight. Today, she had learned that creation was magic; and that she could do anything if she put her mind to it, and used her imagination.

She was delighted!

"Look, mummy! I'm a princess now!" Lilly told her mummy.

Lilly's mummy smiled and gave her a big hug.

"I'm proud of you, my princess!" she told Lilly.

Lilly concluded that creation was magic.

She learned that magic came from using her imagination, and that imagination was the key to being creative.
