Mary Jane had waved to the Inn Keeper saying keep the light on and don't wait up as she jetted out the door with the space cadet.
They swung by the hill top to pick up an old friend who had been working abroad and just arrived. MJ was glad to see Dr. Jekyll, it had been some time. Later that night to her surprise she had met for the first time Mr. Hyde. His eyes were dark black and his soul was icy cold. That evil grin he always showed as he tilted his head slightly down stating it was just a joke.
There had been a car show downtown, as their small town had celebrated every October. One special day with drinking, dancing, and music on display. As the day got older the liquor flowing grew bolder. Shots were poured, courage appeared and there was no fear.
They decided to run through the forest, then lay on the cold dewy ground as they made angels in the grass. The space cadet had said just like snow angels as she smiled and laughed.
They climbed up the fire escape on the back of an old abandoned building. Dr. Jekyll now wondering if he could fly. The space cadet reminding him it was a bit too high. So they climbed back down where their feet were on solid ground. Just in time as Mary Jane had stumbled, tripped, and rolled across the ground.
They all began to laugh, that evil sinister laugh, and then letting out a chuckle here or there. Bwah ha ha ha ha he sneered with that awful glare.
The night dragged on for what had felt forever. The three were living as if they were young, wild, and free. With no cares in the world Mary Jane exclaimed, "I finally can be me!" The mischief and mayhem had been unleashed in the middle of the night. No end to it in sight, the drinking had took over, and now they were black out drunk. Running through the streets creating havoc and doubt.
Actions forgotten as if they had been possessed. Decisions out the door as morals digressed. They walked down the crowded street seeing nothing but bars and eateries. The next obvious thing: let's go clubbin' rang in MJ's ear. It was the space cadet hopping down the road, skipping like a little five year old. Such delight on her face as her eyes lit up.
Inside the club our bodies let loose. All of our rationale and logic floated out the door with the rhythm of the music, as we embraced the inner drum beat of our own hearts. The night got a little crazy, voices grew louder as people got heated. Punches were thrown and friendships torn. Amongst the chaos and commotion the trio snuck out the back door.
They drank and drank til the wee hours of the morning until the sun came up. It was finally time to go off to bed and pass out. When Mary Jane woke and grabbed her water bottle she looked down to see a big red x drawn on the cap wondering to herself what is this?
Forgetting why she had added it to the white plastic cap in the first place .... so she shrugged her shoulders and then took a huge gulp. It spewed across the room falling from her lips as she shrieked "oh my god!" It was straight vodka!
She lay back in bed reminiscing at all the fun the three of them had had! Then she remembered the awful night the day before.
A night she had tried to escape from her thoughts, but unbeknown to her what soon would become a night where she ended up trapped inside her own mind.
Mary Jane had found herself overwhelmed with life’s many struggles. It had all begun to accumulate, like a cloud of despair that lingered above with a dark grey heavy gloom, just filled with rain waiting to burst out.
During a lapse in judgement she went to the Inn Keeper to see what crazy galaxy candies he had brought back from his last adventures. Not learning her lesson from the last time the Inn Keeper had shared his special candies with her.
Forty-five minutes to an hour later had passed and MJ soon realized what she had done could not be undone! The wise words of her mother echoed in the back of her head… “Don’t take candy from strangers!” But the Inn Keeper was not a stranger; she had known him his entire life.
She really did not like the vibes that she was getting. She started to feel bouts of numbness running randomly throughout her body. The sensations that had been set into motion intensified as it zapped down her arm and into her hands, then into her face, shoulders and head. It shot behind her ear then worked its way down her glutes and into her legs before heading back up to her ears, face, and head again.
It was as if it were activating the nerves and pain signal connections in her system. Next she felt a cooling sensation that sent her shivers before a heavy weight started to set in.
Her five senses had been activated, her hearing heightened as well as her logical thinking skills, but this experience didn’t just affect her ears and mind. Her throat, chest, nose, eyesight, everything was affected almost like an infection ravishing her body.
Gas and indigestion set in, she felt a tightness in her chest as she grew extremely tired, her neck felt tight, and her ears were burning filling with a heavy pressure, and then the cognitive issues with her spelling developed. Mary Jane had thought to herself that night, “I really don’t like this state, I hope the reaction to those candies leave my system soon... like double time!”
With her gut feeling icky and her body really shaky she was under the notion that her head was being smooched, tangled up, and then ripped apart. She was cold, then pain began to shoot through her body with an inkling of tightness mounting. She just felt completely icky as the nausea started in on her.
As a way to distract herself she turned on the tele. One of her favorite shows was on so she tuned in. Like the main character in the movie she began to get ideas in her head. Maybe, I am a little bit dangerous… the thoughts increased as if it were augmenting her reality. Her inhibitions were diminishing as she thought I’m being brain washed. If I believe I am dangerous, maybe, I will start to do more dangerous things.
She had this suspicion come across her mind that she was very suggestible, as if she was being tricked into developing intrusive thoughts into the darker realm of this world. To allude from these false truths rewiring her brain, creating false memories or worse, being trapped in a permanent state suffering from psychosis for the rest of her life she decided to turn the tele off.
She heard some noises coming through the walls, the paranoia seemed unstoppable at this point. Then the pressure in her ears expanded and it muffled the sounds. Her eyes played tricks on her next with neon colors of White and Yellow outlining every object in sight. Then it changed into electricity, a shade of Purple that ran across the piano, around the vases, and wall art hanging on the wall.
She just wanted to go to sleep before permanent damage set it. She knelt down next to her bed and prayed… Lord Forgive Me! Repeating it over and over again, “I Pray I Wake Up… I Love My Family!”
It was only 10:46 pm… she thought she had drifted off to bed, but was not sure if she had woken up during the middle of the night or was sleepwalking in a dream. Everything she looked at seemed backwards.
Still sensing the effects and being somewhat out of it hours later she got up to use the bathroom. Being a bit wobbly and shaky, she slipped and smacked the right side of her head on the floor. She remembered earlier in the evening of having this exact image play in her mind, like it was some sort of premonition. Had her brain been rewired after that thought, and that is how it came to actually be. She sat there on the floor wondering!
It was over thirteen hours later when she finally started to feel normal but still very tired. She went back to sleep. Later that day around 1 pm she started to feel calmer, a bit dazed, and then a little energetic urge came over her that she was ready to do some cleaning. Once she finished she sat back to relax and drifted back off to sleep.
It wasn’t until more than twenty hours after she had swallowed the crazy galaxy candy, she had been gifted from her friend the Inn Keeper, that she once again felt like herself.
Mary Jane learned a lot that night!
