Chipped

A taste of a bigger story

By Sara WilsonPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

"Ready?" I asked. Neither of us were.

Ruby nodded closing her eyes and turning her head away. I shoved the knife into her hip and sliced.

She screamed.

I twisted and pulled out a tiny microchip. I handed Ruby a rag to cover the wound, clenching the chip between my blood-soaked fingers.

The red in her eyes was slowly changing back to an icy shade of blue. Her canines retracted back into her gums. She looked at the chip, disgusted.

"ID2020." she scoffed, tossing it on the cement and smashing it under her boot.
