Cause I like you
A story inspired by Because by Straykids Changbin and Felix

I just really love you
You're the only reason why I really love you
When I see you smile I just can't get enough
And I can't live without you
Baby I just really love you

"Sorry, I'm late." I said taking a seat right beside her in the empty swing. It took quite some time for me to arrive here even though it's just two house away from our house. It's all because of my older brother that couldn't act his age. She formed a small smile and laughed.
"Don't worry. I-" I stared deep into her eyes as she told her story of the day that had became our daily routine since two years ago. Yeah, time sure flies by when you're happy.
She was my neighbor. Our story started when I just moved into the house right beside her's. She was the first person to approach me since I haven't known anyone yet in the neighborhood. I was a coward that couldn't make any friend unless someone talked to me first. Her tiny little hand grabbed my hand in our first meeting just so I would start talking to her.
Since then, we would always meet up with each other at this playground. I would say this was practically our secret hideout. There were not so many children in this neighborhood and usually we're the only one here. It was comfortable for both of us. Well, we don't actually do much other than talk with each other. But, it's still nice seeing how passionate she was when she was telling her stories.
There was one time when she tells me a story about how she found a pretty butterfly in her house. She described that butterfly as something blind because they couldn't see how beautiful their wings are. Quite poetic, huh? But then, she told me that it died just after several minutes because her dad didn't see it flying under his feet. Somehow, that made her cried and laughed at the same time. That silly girl.
But of course, not all of her stories were filled with rainbows and unicorns. Sometimes, she would also tells me her worries. It took some time for her to get comfortable sharing those thoughts. As much as I love her smiles, I don't want her to pretend to be okay when she's not. I want to lend my shoulder when needed.
She always worried about her grades that were practically above mine. She's one of the gifted kids who seems sad when they don't get an A+ in the exam. Even so, I always give her mood a boost by saying how my grades are just above average. That practically hurts my pride but at least she don't need to worry about failing, right?
I don't even know when it started to happen. My eyes had been fixated on her and her only. Not only that, my mind was filled with thoughts of her. Her little smile had became a drug for me and her pretty voice had become a melodic music to my ears.
Her daily little stories about little things in her life were becoming my favorite part of the day, everyday as it feels like it was the shortest time of the day.
"You know-"
"Hey, I like you." I blurted out the sudden confession, cutting her words as she widened her eyes. For me, its not a sudden confession. I've been thinking of doing that for quite some time. I just need a little boost for myself.
"Why?"
"You're the only reason why I really like you." I answered her question without stuttering as I confidently looked into her eyes. Slowly, a small smile formed on both our lips.
I just really like you.
