" And Sarah was never seen again. The end," Kimberly said, flicking a strand of her blonde hair away from her eyes. The rest of the camp fire girls clapped and cheered.
" Ok. So who is going to tell the next story?" Amanda asked.
" Me," Martha said.
" No, Martha. You already told one and it was so stupid. Anyone else? The fire is going to go out soon,"
" I have a story to tell," said Rachel" this story is actually true. It's based on my great great grandmother Rose. She used to live here long ago,"
" Liar," Kathy said amusingly.
" I can assure you I'm not lying," Rachel said, eyeing Kathy" I can prove it to you if you let me tell my story,"
" Ignore Kathy. She acts goofy after devouring so much candy," said Amanda.
Rachel nodded then told her tale, staring deep into the flames," Long ago there used to be pilgrims who lived in these woods. They fled England cause of religious persecution and found a new home here with others like them. Yet there was also another group who had lived in the woods prior to their arrival. These people were somewhat different from the rest of the pilgrims, so they started calling them weird names cause of their customs. Yet my great great grandmother Rose grew fond of them. She was warned by her parents to never go around these people, yet one day she left and curiously watched these strange people, hiding behind a tree. Yet Rose was soon spotted by a young boy no older than she. The boys name was Caleb. Caleb told her he found her and they quickly became friends. He invited her to his home where she met his parents and others from the group. They treated her so kindly she hardly felt any of her mothers fear,"
" No offense Rachel, but this story is kind of boring," Amanda said.
" Don't worry. I'm getting to the good parts. Now great great grandma Rose continued to hang out with Caleb. They played games together in the woods and Caleb even taught her how to fish. While they fished Rachel cut her hand by accident, trying to pull in the fish she caught. Her hand bleed out quickly, causing her to panic. Yet Caleb waved his left hand over her bloody right hand, muttering some ancient words, magically healing her wound,"
" Caleb was a witch!" said Kathy alarmed.
"Boys aren't witches. They're called wizards, silly girl," Amanda spat.
" Actually magic users aren't defined by gender. You can be either a wizard or a witch, but yes Caleb was a wizard. Of course great great grandma Rose grew curious and asked him how he knew magic. This led Caleb to telling her how he comes from a family of magic users and he could teach her too if she liked. This led Caleb to teach my great great grandma Rose how to use magic. But of course her family didn't like this. So when they noticed Rose, trying to grow plants by using magic they told her she wasn't allowed to see Caleb anymore. This upset Rose so much she got upset, setting her home on fire by accident. Her family lied and told others Rose's mother set the house on fire from cooking. Although her family begged her to never visit Caleb again she continued to visit him in secret. She wanted to leave her family and live with Caleb. Yet Caleb also warned Rose, telling her them seeing each other was a bad idea. He admitted, teaching her magic wasn't a good idea and told her he couldn't see her anymore to keep both his family and hers safe from harm. Yet the feud didn't stop there. One day as Rose played alone in the woods she found her brothers surrounding Caleb and beating him with sticks. They beat him so badly he bled out and died. Rose grew so angry she screamed and set the whole forest a blaze, killing many from her group including those from Caleb's group. The groups agreed that Rose was a danger to both of their clans, forcing them to murder her. Legend now says her spirit haunts this wood, searching for Caleb. The end"
" That is so dumb. Nice try Rachel, but I'm not scared at all," Kathy said suddenly feeling a pinch on her skin" Ouch. Hey that hurt," Kathy said, glaring at Rachel.
" I swear it wasn't me.... It was great great grandma Rose. Hello Rose," said Rachel, staring at one of the thick oak trees.
" Ok Rachel you're really scaring us now," said Amanda" I'm going back to camp,"
" Not until each of you apologize to Rose. She will kill you if you try, leaving,"
Each of the girls stared at each other unsure if Rachel was telling them the truth or not.
" We're very sorry," they said to Rose or whoever they were speaking too. Rachel told them they could leave and one by one they left the campfire unharmed. Yet Rachel stayed behind and had a nice chat with her great great grandma Rose and Caleb. At sunrise she put the fire out, said good bye to Rose and Caleb, and returned to camp. None of the girls asked Rachel about Rose in fear of what she might do to them.
