hop into darkness
“I woke up with my vision blurred. As I blinked to bring things into focus, I discovered that thousands of rabbits surrounded me. Their eyes were fixed on me, and an eerie smile seemed to spread across their tiny faces. The scene felt strangely mysterious. I screamed in shock, my voice resonating in the air around me. As I got up and looked around, I was taken aback by the sight before me: the clouds hung overhead in a mesmerizing shade of pink, and the trees and bushes were curiously shaped like rabbits. To my disbelief, rabbits were swimming playfully in the river, and everywhere I looked, carrot plants flourished.
It felt utterly surreal. I blinked harder, my mind struggling to grasp the bizarre scene. In an effort to understand how I had arrived in this strange place, I searched my thoughts, but they were shrouded in a fog. A fierce headache pulsed in my temples, clouding my ability to think clearly. I found myself unable to move as the ground was alive with countless rabbits. I tried to remain still, but my balance faltered, and I accidentally tripped over one. Fear gripped me as I looked down, only to see it vanish before my eyes. In an instant, it transformed into a wisp of fog and drifted away into the air, leaving me bewildered.
Suddenly, I heard a soft, enchanting female voice that sent a shiver down my spine. I turned to look around, and to my shock, the statue on the fountain floated toward me. It transformed into a stunning girl adorned in bunny-inspired makeup and a whimsical outfit. Her hair shone like fresh snow, her deep blue eyes seemed to pierce through the shadows, and her jawline was striking — her beauty taken straight from a K-pop idol.
Summoning my courage, I asked, “Who are you? Where am I? What is this place?” She smiled mysteriously and urged me to look around. But when I turned back to her, she was gone. Panic rose within me as I called out, “Hey, bunny lady! Where did you go? I’m so lost and a bit scared. Can you please help me?” But I received no reply. I glanced around as she suggested, feeling an increasing sense of unease — my body remained frozen in place. Then, my eyes fell on the bunnies; their cheerful smiles seemed almost too bright. I instinctively smiled back at them, and in an instant, they all vanished into thin air.
I started to explore around the mysterious forest. It was a soft, glowing realm where everything feels calm, magical, and full of gentle wonder. The air is warm and sweet, carrying the scent of wildflowers and honey. Velvet-green meadows stretch endlessly under a pastel sky brushed with cotton-candy clouds. In every direction, you see bunnies of all colors — snowy white, caramel, lavender-gray, and even shimmering golden ones — hopping happily among blooming clover and tall dandelions that sparkle with morning dew. Everything was shaped and carved as rabbits.
I wandered deeper into the forest, my footsteps silent against the velvety grass. The air felt thicker now — sweeter, almost too sweet, like syrup clinging to my throat. The once–soft chirping of invisible birds faded, replaced by a faint humming sound that echoed inside my skull. Then I noticed something strange. The same white rabbit hopped past me — again and again. Its ears twitched in the exact same rhythm, its tiny paws leaving no mark on the ground. I turned around. Another one appeared. Then another. All of them identical
A chill crept up my spine.
“Hey!” I called out, my voice trembling. “Where am I really? What do you want from me?”The humming grew louder. The trees began to sway though there was no wind, their rabbit-shaped leaves whispering my name.”Lucy…”
I froze. How could they know my name?
Suddenly, the bunny girl appeared again — only this time, her smile was gone. Her blue eyes glowed faintly, reflecting a sadness I couldn’t understand.
“This world,” she said softly, “is yours. You made it.”
I took a step back. “What do you mean?”
She tilted her head. “You’ve been here for a long time. We’re the memories you buried — your comfort, your guilt, your loneliness. Every rabbit you see is a piece of what you’ve forgotten.”My heart pounded. The rabbits around me began to fade, turning into pale wisps that floated upward like smoke. The forest darkened, and the sky cracked like broken glass.
“Wake up,” she whispered. “It’s time.”
I fell to my knees, clutching my head as a wave of pain surged through me. Fragments of my life flashed before my eyes — the hospital bed, the sound of a monitor beeping, voices calling my name.
And then everything went white.
The white light faded, replaced by the sterile hum of a hospital room. I blinked, expecting the familiar warmth of my family’s faces. Instead, I saw shadows stretching across the walls, subtly writhing. A monitor beeped rhythmically beside me, but the sound seemed distorted, almost like a whisper: Lucy… Lucy…
I tried to move, but my body felt heavy, like I was wading through thick fog. Then I noticed her — the bunny girl — sitting in the corner of the room. Her face was pale, eyes glowing faintly in the dim light. She smiled, but it was not the gentle smile from the forest. This one was slow, deliberate, predatory.
“Welcome back,” she whispered, her voice a soft echo of the forest’s humming.I scanned the room. Everything seemed normal — the bed, the medical equipment — but out of the corner of my eye, the nurse approaching had small, twitching rabbit ears hidden beneath her cap. Her shadow elongated unnaturally across the floor, and I saw countless tiny, indistinct shapes writhing inside it.
I tried to scream, but no sound came.
Then, from the shadows, hundreds of rabbits appeared — crawling along the floor, walls, and ceiling. Their eyes were too bright, their smiles too wide, stretching impossibly. One hopped onto the bed, staring directly into my eyes.
“You never really left,” the bunny girl said, stepping closer, her hand reaching toward me. “This is home now.”
As darkness consumed the room, I realized the truth: the bunny world wasn’t a dream, the hospital wasn’t real, and I had never escaped. I was trapped… forever. The last thing I heard before everything went silent was the soft, eerie chorus of a thousand tiny voices whispering: Welcome home, Lucy… “
