Breaking News
A news report takes an unexpected turn
For longtime anchorwoman Regina Aston, this ongoing story was quite gripping, but it increased her stock on the network. That was the last thing she had on her mind, as her only focus was on preparing herself to report the incoming developments on this continuing story, which involved the shocking murder of a woman named Natalie Becker, who was found stabbed to death inside her home a week prior.
Regina only had a few seconds to prepare to give the breaking news story, but even as the final countdown was made, she maintained her concentration, and made her announcement.
"Good evening. Tonight, we have a breaking development in the week-old murder of Natalie Becker. We go live to Lt. Desmond Elgin with the news regarding a person of interest in this story." As promised, Elgin appeared on screen, and addressed Regina live during the broadcast.
"Good evening, Regina."
"Lt. Elgin," said Regina. "We did talk earlier. So you have news on that person of interest."
"Actually," said Elgin, "we're on the verge of making an arrest right now." Regina was surprised by the news, but she would be even more shocked when she saw a pair of police officers enter the news room and walk right towards Regina, who showed signs of nervousness.
"What's going on?" Regina asked.
"Regina Aston," said Elton. "I am informing you that you have been placed under arrest for the murder of Natalie Becker." Regina was stunned by the development, but not because of the shock of being arrested. The sudden change in Regina's facial demeanor, going from showing surprise to something more ominous, revealed that Regina's shock was due to the fact that she expected to get away with it.
And once the proverbial mask was off, Regina told all.
"He was mine."
"I'm sorry?" asked Elgin.
"Richard Becker was mine," snarled Regina.
"Are you talking about Natalie's husband?" asked Elgin. "Did you and Richard have an affair? Is he your ex?"
"Richard never even noticed me!" exclaimed Regina. "And that was all because of Natalie. She knew I had designs on him, but she made her move anyway. Seeing them married for all those years, I tried to move past it, but on that day... I just couldn't. Placing that knife in that no-good bitch was absolutely liberating."
"And was trying to suggest that a Latinx person was the killer also 'liberating'?" asked Elgin.
"Come on, Lieutenant," Regina said with a wicked smile. "We all know that's who commits these murders. And a jury will see that as well."
Despite her bravado and arrogance, Regina Aston was quickly convicted in Natalie Becker's murder, and she received additional charges regarding her racist scheme. Regina's prominent job served as a mask for her long hidden insane jealousy, which emerged in the worst way when she murdered Natalie. Regina's career was over, her reputation's shattered, she's now known as a murderous madwoman, and she'll have the rest of her life in jail to face that reality.
