Breaking Free: How Jesus Saved Me from Addiction and Spiritual Darkness

The Hidden Battle We Face

By Pragyana SinghPublished 11 months ago 4 min read

Have you ever felt trapped in a cycle of sin, shame, and guilt? You tell yourself, “This is the last time,” but you keep falling back into the same temptation. You start avoiding church, feeling unworthy of God’s presence. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. I was there too.

This is my story of how I fell into addiction, how the devil tried to take my soul, and how Jesus Himself fought for me. If you’re struggling with sin, keep reading—because there’s hope, and you can break free.

The Fall: How It All Started

I was 24, a devoted Christian. I loved going to church, spending time in prayer, and worshiping God. But one day, while browsing social media, I stumbled upon a video that aroused lust within me. At first, it was just curiosity. But soon, I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

Before I knew it, I was watching these videos every night. My spirit told me it was wrong, but my flesh craved more. By Sunday, I was too ashamed to even step into church. I prayed, begged for forgiveness, and told God I’d never do it again.

But the cycle continued. The temptation grew stronger, and I grew weaker.

The Addiction: When Sin Takes Over

Days turned into weeks. I became addicted. My personality changed—I became dull, short-tempered, and distant from my family. I stopped praying, reading my Bible, and eventually, I stopped going to church.

I told myself, “Why should I pray? I’ve already failed God so many times.” That was the biggest mistake—because that’s exactly what the devil wanted. He wanted me to feel unworthy so I would stay away from God.

But what I didn’t know was that my soul was now in danger.

The Spiritual Battle: When the Devil Came for Me

One night, after indulging in my addiction, I lay in bed, eyes closed but fully awake. Suddenly, an overwhelming darkness filled my room.

I saw a figure dressed in black, standing at the foot of my bed. His face was not visible—it was just a deep, dark void. He was reaching for me. Fear paralyzed me. I wanted to move, but I couldn’t.

Then, another figure appeared—Jesus Christ. He shone so brightly that I couldn’t see His face, only His golden crown and flowing white robe. The moment Jesus appeared, the dark figure stepped back.

Three times, the demon tried to claim me. Three times, Jesus pushed him away. I heard the devil say, “Brian belongs to me now,” but Jesus responded with power, “No, he is mine.”

And then, everything disappeared.

I woke up, drenched in sweat, heart pounding. Was it just a dream? No, it felt too real. Then, I heard a powerful voice:

“This was not a dream. The devil came for your soul. But I love you, and I will not let you go. You have been given another chance. Repent, turn back to Me, and I will set you free.”

Breaking Free: The Journey to Healing

That night, I cried out to Jesus like never before. I admitted I was weak. I told Him I didn’t know how to stop. But I also told Him I didn’t want to be a slave to sin anymore.

The journey wasn’t easy. Addiction doesn’t disappear overnight. There were days I struggled, but I never stopped praying. And the more I sought Jesus, the weaker my addiction became.

Over time, my heart changed. The things that once tempted me became disgusting to me. The Holy Spirit filled my life again, and for the first time in months, I felt free.

You Can Be Free Too—Here’s How

If you’re struggling with addiction, shame, or sin, let me tell you something: Jesus hasn’t given up on you.

Here’s what I learned:

1. Guilt is the devil’s weapon.

The enemy wants you to feel so ashamed that you stop praying and seeking God. But Jesus didn’t come to condemn you—He came to save you!

✨ Romans 8:1 – “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

2. Confession is powerful.

The moment you confess your sin, God forgives you completely. Don’t hide from Him—run to Him.

✨ 1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

3. Prayer is your weapon.

Even when you feel weak, keep praying. The more you pray, the stronger your spirit becomes, and the weaker sin's grip will be.

✨ Matthew 26:41 – “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

4. Jesus fights for you.

You are not fighting alone—Jesus Himself is standing between you and the enemy. Even when you fail, He still claims you as His own.

✨ Exodus 14:14 – “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Final Words: There is Hope

The devil will try to convince you that you’ll never change. But that’s a lie. I was addicted, ashamed, and lost, but Jesus saved me.

If He could rescue me, He can rescue you.

Don’t give up. Keep fighting. Keep praying. And never forget—Jesus already won the battle for you.

"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." – John 8:36

If this testimony spoke to you, share it with someone who needs hope. You never know who might need to hear that Jesus still saves.
