This land has always been Mariqua. None of the history, that has survived, reveals anything that may have come before. All that is known from before is that Witches and humans were here before vampires. Vampires came to be because of a mistake. Whose mistake depends on who you are asking. The Witches, male and female, had always gone unchallenged. Anyone from any family can be a Witch. The very first sign that someone was (or is) a Witch is the zircon eye color that is there from birth. The first Witches' names that anyone and everyone can remember are Silas and Belladora.
All that is still known about Silas to this day, is that our story begins when he was at least a century old. A century is young for a Witch for they are immortal. Well, one day he had decided to walk through the forest to collect the Tributes of Protection owed from the land-livers he watched over. During his task, he happened upon the local human gong farmer. Enoch, married to Yazmin, were the third generation gong farmers. They had many children, but none more beautiful that Alexzandria. Of the many times Silas had come to collect, this was the first time he had ever laid eyes on this particular female. He first noticed her waist long braid, of strawberry blonde hair, shining as a flame in broad daylight. Skin was perfectly tanned to a freshly baked bread color. Her eyes were so ice blue that they put shame to anything named the same. The only thing he wanted in that momment was to hear her voice.
As Silas approached Enoch and family, he tried recomposing himself. Though Silas tried to hide it, Enoch could see where his attention was. Yazmin soon caught on and quietly told Alexzandria to remove herself from sight. It was, however, too late. An invisible force field, common for Witches, prevented her from moving another step. Nervously, Alexzandria turned around and moved behind her parents. Enoch held out a bag in his shaking hand. "Silas, here is our Tribute. Would you like any food for the rest of your travels," Enoch asked. Silas accepted the bag with one question, "Who is this gem you have kept hidden?" Enoch's gulp was as subtle as a breeze and happened just Yazmin slightly squeezed Alexzandria's hand. With the beauty and grace of a rose, a voice of honey replied, "My name is Alexzandria. Master Silas, is there something not to your liking?"
Years passed from their first meeting. As Alexzandria grew into a grown woman, so did their feelings for each other. This was not kindly looked upon by everyone. Members of the other land-livers began to notice the favor that this low-life family was receiving. It was only a matter of time before they started having secret meetings in hopes to determine how to end this ridiculous attempt at a union. One night under a shining full moon, the members, having convened again, were in the middle of a discussion when all of a sudden all the fire pit lights flickered. As a gorgeous woman appeared out of thin air, the most seductive voice any of the men and women had ever heard inquired, "Would you good humans accept advice and help from one who hates this union too?" Mesmerized by this enchanting woman, they all nodded. With a childish grin she echoed, " There will be another full moon in three weeks of this same month. On that night when the moon is almost highest in the sky, you need to. . . "
Three weeks passed. Enoch sent Alexzandria to town to fetch some supplies for the coming visitor the following day. Poor Enoch did not yet know just what grave mistake this would come to be. The other land-livers' hatred had come to ripe fruition. They had waited and planned for this day. As Alexzandria went about her own business gathering all the items on the list Yazmin had created, all the land-livers in town acted normal. Just as dusk was nearing, Alexzandria finished up her shopping and proceeded to walk away from the market. . . Dusk had come and gone, yet Alexzandria had not returned. This concerned her family. Enoch had had enough of the wait game and told his family to quickly dress for a search of the missing family member. They were entering the town just as the full moon was just about at its high of the first night of full moons. A few bonfires could be seen on the distant side of town. Yazmin started having a gut wrenching loathe at the thought of find out what it was about. Still, she nodded at Enoch's worrisome look. As they all approached, it seemed that the whole population of local land-livers had gathered around the oldest and largest willow tree. The cheers and merriment were silenced by the piercing sobs coming from Yazmin (and her daughters) and wrathful yells of Enoch ( and his sons). The sight of Alexzandria's lifeless body hanging in the willow's arms ended any happiness the gong farming family had in their past.
Silas, bubbling with affection, woke up early so the would be able to surprise everyone with the question of a lifetime. This day was going to change history from then on. Lost in his thoughts, Silas pass the evidence of the towns late night party, but thought nothing of it. There were signs of drinking, dancing, bonfires, scraps on the ground and a brawl. All those things were normal for humans. Between town and the gong farm, is when he sensed the magic. Envious magic. He stopped his horse so hard while in mid trot that it reared up causing him to fall off. After calming his horse, he started studying the surround area. A strong gust of wind blew from the south carrying her voice, " You know it is not too late? I still love you, and I am willing to forgive all these years of madness." He snapped his head around to come face to face with Belladora. "Any feelings I may have once felt, disappeared when you chose to strive for power," Silas calmly said even though he wanted to crush her with the full force of his barrier. "That's too bad, Love," she hissed before vanishing as quickly as she appeared. With that, his concern rocketed.
He arrived at the farm just as dusk was approaching. He dropped off his horse, and bolted into the house. Upon entering, all his strength left his knees causing him to drop. There was no stopping the crocodile tears from streaming down his cheeks. Enoch was holding Yazmin as she laid her head on the formally pressed blankets. All of Enoch and Yazmin's children were comforting each other through sobs. As the door shut, Enoch looked up with his expression changing from pain to a pure storm. "OUT! OUT! Get your murdering tail off our land and NEVER return! If it wasn't for your 'attention', our daughter would still be here with us!" Silas did not blame Enoch for his outburst. He knew who exactly wanted this to happen, and she reaped what she sowed. Silas backed out of the house out of respect for the family of the he loved.
Silas sat outside of the house for a few hours racking his knowledge. He was trying to think of anything he might could do to reverse what was done. As the true blue moon was reaching its peak, he snapped his head from his folded arms and burst back into the house." Leave the house. None of us will be losing her tonight," eerily echoed from the power radiating from Silas. Enoch and his family, terrified at the sight they were witnessing, did exactly as they were told. Just before shutting the door, Enoch looked back one last time. He saw Silas slicing his hand while muttering something in a language he had never heard. Enoch was with the rest of his panicking family when Yazmin pointed to the moon. It was slowly turning from pearl white to crimson red. . .
That was centuries ago, yet it is the fuel that feeds the fire of all past wars and those in present day. The Witches' numbers may have decreased some since then but their resolve, to be back on top alone, has only grown. They are still incredibly powerful to this day. When vampires travel outside the Mist is usually the only chance(s) they have at killing a clan or envoy. Witches and Vampires alike lived, died and been killed. At one point in the past, humans became fed up with the differences. They created monster killers that were trained with the intent of ridding the world of it unjustifiable monsters that caused nothing but misery and death. At the same time, they started luring Witches to the stakes to be hugged by a cleansing warmth of deadly flames. Even through these struggles and battles, humans thrived on their own but lived (and still live) in fear that the old ways would return.
To survive, the vampires decided that the strongest needed to protect the rest of the species. So after many centuries of debates and battles, they came to a solution. They would create clans based on whom turned them. This resulted in the following clans: Opal, Diamond, Emerald, Amethyst and Ruby. Each clan has a trademark trait, head family, half-breed trait and group of Bound humans.
The Ruby clan is by far the weakest of the vampire clans. They are the least civil of clans also. The pure-breeds of the clan all have garnet colored eyes. There eyes remind everyone that they are from the clan that gorges on bloodshed the most. The head family is led by Harrison. He is mated to Willow. They remember the act that was done all those centuries ago but not what caused it. Their hatred causes them to show mercy to humans. This in turn causes them to get off on torturing any half-breed that may become of some of the torture methods performed. This clan changes its head family so often that it is unknown when the last family lineage stayed in power. Because of their mentality "of vampires should rule the world", this clan is known to wander outside of the Mist often. That reason, along with the fact that any and every chance they get to undermine vampire law, is why they are also the smallest clan. Their half-breeds have sunset res eyes. It is because of this clan that vampires are considered unjustifiable monsters.
The Amethyst clan is stronger in strength and speed. They do not treat human much better than the Ruby clan, but they do treat their Half-breed better. That is for the simple fact that they are half vampire. This clan's trademark is spinel eyes. Their half-breed eyes are dark kunzile color. This clan also thinks that vampires should rule the world but not at the cost of "their food". The head family is led by Claude and Misty. They are the only ruling siblings of all the clans. Their parents' names are not allowed to be mentioned due to vampire treason committed decades ago. All the half-breeds in this clan are the offspring of the head family and humans. Cluade and Misty's parents had passed a clan rule that no one else was to commit the same act. This was to prevent Bound humans from " getting any ideas about favoritism".
The Emerald clan is happy with their status. They are not the strongest but are well respected. Just as their clan's name suggest, the pure-blood or pure- breed have eyes that sparkle as emeralds. Andreo is the head of the clan. He is mated or married to Lavender. She has an ability of extreme healing. Therefore she is cautiously out among the population outside the Mist. She is trying to forge new and better understanding grounds between all species. Andreo has not been quite the same since Lavender went missing. He now has little to no tolerance for harshness and stupidity. Lilite is their only child and heir to the clan. She is sweet and mischievous. She tries to make everyone happy while having a good laugh from it. The half-breeds from this clan have eyes of chrome diopside. The Bound humans have every necessity and a clean living space. The half-breeds are also from any clan member that has reproduced. This clan is known to help anyone who needs help. This clan is also the second largest clan.
The second strongest and second longest standing clan is the Diamond clan. It is led by Vindal and Zanzaria. They are two of the three oldest vampires that have survived throughout the rough past. They understand both pros and cons of humans; therefore, treat them neutrally. This clan is the only clan whose pure-breed and half-breed have the same colored eyes. It is rumored this clan has the descendants of Alexzandria herself. This clan is also known to somehow pass down great fighting abilities. It is because of that this clan is usually this main army in times of battles and wars.
The strongest, oldest and largest clan is the Opal clan. Their trademark trait is snow-white eyes for pure-bloods and citrine eyes for half-breeds. The Bound human families of this clan have had the original Bound be turned into a vampire. No not a pure-breed but the typical vampire. The Bound of this clan have the best living conditions of all the Bound. This clan is known to be loyal to family first then clan then species. The head family is ran by Edward. What is known about him is short but powerful. He was born around the beginning of the 12th century. His ability is control of the Protecting Mist that surround the vampires' lands. He was once married to Victoria. She was born around the end of the 13th century and had the ability of weapon manifestation. They were happy and ruled as peacefully as possible. That is until she was killed by a Witch and human alliance in 1700. After her death, Edward created a council to step in and help determine the correct action. They were to not be as biased as the king may be at said time. They would only step in if the king was making a destructive decision. Before Victoria was killed, they had two children: David and Vanaura. David is the oldest and heir to the clan. He has inherited Protective Mist ability along with his mother's weapon ability. In an attempt to create a treaty between a part of the outside world and the vampire world, David was forced to become bound to a female rogue half-breed from a ruling city of the world. Her name was Neomay. David had eventually started to fall for her during their "Know Time". She, however, loathed vampires and any creations from them, including herself. So she did the only thing she knew that could end her suffering. She betrayed the Bound Bind by having salacious relations with a human from a neighboring city. The betrayal ended with her life being taken, David's heart being broken, and a war almost starting. In the treat that was formed instead, almost costed the vampires everything. This is when the Protective Mist became the boarders. Since being betrayed, David has not shown much interest in trying to have a relation with anyone. He keeps to himself as much as possible. The cowardice behavior shown by most of the species towards his family bores him. He is a master swordsman under his father's instruction. He loves his little sister. Lilite is very kind-hearted. Her ability is to know the intentions of a being by looking into the eyes. A little known fact is that his mother's death and betrayal are one in the same event. This clan is known for showering those whom show true loyalty with praises and prizes.
Any other possible half-breeds that may occur are considered abominations. This is one of the main Vampire Laws. The vampire involved is considered to have committed treason. The offspring are usually killed at birth, while both parents are beheaded, staked and burned in blessed water. This is in hopes that no one would attempt such an act again. But the one thing that always stays the same, is eyes. One's eyes tell his or her whole story without any words being spoken.
