Bid for Freedom
A Chameleon Saves the Day!
Shade the chameleon eyed the store owner as he walked to the front desk, his interest piqued. The keys for the animal enclosures hung precariously on the store owner's belt; they looked like they may just fall.
His heart began hammering in excitement at the possibility. He focused both eyes on the jingling mass, willing it to fall.
The store owner was walking by with his arms full of boxes; when his hip scraped the side of the front desk, the keys fell off. Too busy to notice, the owner kept on going.
They were right there. Just outside his enclosure.
Shade, being one of the creatures handled most by the store owner to show off to customers, was housed in an enclosure with gaps. If he could just get the keys...
...they could all make a run for it.
Shade took careful aim before tensing up for the shot. Then he let his long tongue fly.
Missed.
He tried again. And again. And again...
Eventually, he made contact with the keys and quickly brought them up. He used his strangely shaped "hands" to maneuver the keys in the locks, and he was free.
Then, he kindly freed the rest.

Megan Baker (Left Vocal in 2023)
A fun spin on her last name, Baker enjoyed creating "Baker's Dozen" lists for various topics! She also wrote candidly about her mental health & a LOT of fiction. Discontinued writing on Vocal in 2023 as Vocal is a fruitless venture.
