Benny and Jack

Story of a special friendship

By Szabina SzikszaiPublished 3 years ago 5 min read

Benny was a bat who had always been fascinated by humans. He would often perch himself on a branch near a human settlement and watch as they went about their day-to-day activities. Sometimes, he would even fly close to them and observe them up close.

One day, Benny saw a group of humans gathering in a park near his tree. They were having a picnic and he could smell the delicious food they had brought with them. Benny’s curiosity got the best of him and he decided to get a closer look.

He swooped down towards the group of humans and landed on a nearby tree branch. He listened in on their conversations, trying to understand what they were saying. They didn’t seem to notice him at first, but then one of them spotted him and let out a scream.

Benny was taken aback by the sudden noise and flapped his wings in surprise. The humans saw him flying away and thought he was trying to attack them. They panicked and started running in different directions.

Benny felt terrible. He had only wanted to observe them and learn more about them. He didn’t mean to scare them or cause any harm. He flew back to his tree, feeling sad and disappointed.

The next day, Benny decided to try again. He flew over to a different part of the park where he saw a man sitting alone on a bench. The man looked up and saw Benny hovering in front of him. This time, instead of screaming and running away, the man just smiled.

“Hello there little guy,” the man said, “you’re not afraid of me, are you?”

Benny was surprised by the man’s calm reaction. He had never met a human who didn’t react in fear when they saw him. He hovered a little closer to the man and chirped softly.

“I’m Benny,” he said, “I’ve always been curious about humans. Can you tell me more about you?”

The man was surprised to hear a bat speaking to him, but he wasn’t scared. He smiled and said, “My name is Jack. I’m just a regular guy who likes to come to the park and relax.”

Benny was fascinated. He had never had a conversation with a human before. He perched himself on the bench next to Jack and listened intently as he spoke. Jack told him about his life, his job, and his hobbies. Benny listened attentively, asking questions every now and then.

Before he knew it, the sun was setting and it was time for Benny to head back to his tree. He thanked Jack for talking to him and said goodbye. As he flew away, he felt happy and excited. He had finally made a connection with a human and it was a positive one.

Over the next few weeks, Benny would visit the park every day and talk to Jack. They became good friends and would spend hours chatting about everything under the sun. Benny learned so much about humans and began to understand them better.

One day, Jack asked Benny if he wanted to come home with him. He wanted to show Benny what it was like to live as a human. Benny hesitated at first, but then he thought, why not? It could be an interesting experience.

Jack took Benny to his house and showed him around. Benny was amazed at all the different things he saw. He had never been inside a human’s home before. He looked at the furniture, the pictures on the wall, and the various knick-knacks scattered around the room.

Jack offered Benny some fruit and nuts to eat. Benny was hesitant at first, but then he remembered how delicious the human’s food smelled during the picnic. He decided to give it a try and was surprised at how good it tasted.

As the night wore on, Benny began to feel tired and Jack noticed. He offered Benny a place to rest, but Benny declined, saying he needed to head back to his tree before it got too late.

Jack understood and walked Benny back to the park. As they said goodbye, Jack told Benny that he was always welcome to come back and visit anytime he wanted. Benny thanked him and flew back to his tree, feeling grateful for the new friend he had made.

From that day on, Benny would split his time between hanging out with the other bats and visiting Jack. Jack would always have something new to show Benny, whether it was a new book or a new gadget. Benny, in turn, would tell Jack about his life as a bat and the adventures he had while flying at night.

But not everyone was as accepting of Benny’s friendship with Jack. Some of the other bats didn’t like the fact that Benny was spending time with a human. They thought it was dangerous and that Benny was putting them all in danger.

Benny didn’t understand why they were so against it. He tried to explain that Jack was a good guy and that he had never done anything to harm them. But the other bats wouldn’t listen. They told Benny that he was being foolish and that he needed to stay away from humans if he wanted to stay safe.

Benny didn’t want to choose between his friends, but he also didn’t want to cause any trouble. He decided that it was best to keep his friendship with Jack a secret. He would still visit him, but he wouldn’t tell anyone else about it.

For a while, everything went smoothly. Benny would spend his nights flying with the other bats and his days hanging out with Jack. But then one night, while he was flying with the other bats, something happened.

A group of humans had come to the park with bright lights and loud music. The bats were scared and started flying around frantically. They didn’t know what to do. Benny, who had seen humans before, tried to calm them down and tell them that they weren’t in danger.

But the other bats didn’t listen. They flew away, leaving Benny alone. Benny was scared, but he didn’t know where else to go. He decided to fly back to Jack’s house. He knew that Jack would help him.

When he arrived at Jack’s house, he was exhausted and scared. Jack was surprised to see him there, but he quickly realized that something was wrong. He brought Benny inside and tried to calm him down.

As Benny caught his breath, he told Jack what had happened. Jack listened attentively and then promised to help. He would talk to the other humans and tell them to leave the bats alone. He would also try to convince them to turn off the lights and music.

Benny was grateful. He had never felt so relieved. He knew that Jack would do everything he could to help him and his bat friends.

The next night, Jack went to the park and talked to the humans. He explained to them that the bats were scared and that the lights and music were causing them to fly around frantically. The humans listened and then turned off the lights and music.

The bats, who had been watching from a distance, saw what was happening and started to calm down. They saw Benny talking to Jack and realized that he had been right about him all along. They flew over to join him and thanked him for his help.

From that day on, the bats and the humans in the park learned to coexist peacefully. Benny was happy to have played a part in bringing them together. He realized that even though they were different, they could still be friends and help each other when they needed it.
