12 year old Marty Styles is sitting in his language arts class waiting for his best friend Cordell to show up. While waiting Marty is drawing a picture of what looks like a little kid wearing a red mask, a blue long sleeve shirt and a green cape. Stumbling in class at the sound of the late bell, Cordell rushes into class exhausted with his clothes crooked. “Nice of you to join us, Cordy” said the teacher, Mr. Michaels. “Sorry Mr. Michaels…there was a disturbance” Cordell replied.

“Go take a seat, late bus” Mr. Michaels concluded. As Cordell walked over to his seat Marty noticed the exhaust on Cordell’s face. “Was it Conrad?” Marty asked Cordell as he sat down next to him. “Yes” Cordell replied softly. Marty now felt a fit of anger. At 3:00p.m. Marty was walking through the empty school hall on his way to the car rider’s section as school was letting out for the day.

On his way to his locker Marty saw his friend Cordell cornered by a bully named Conrad Jacobs. Realizing that his friend was in danger Marty quickly ran into the bathroom next to him and reached into his book bag to pull out a red mask with a blue long sleeve shirt and a green cape. He quickly suited up in the attire and ran out of the bathroom. “Hey!” Marty called out. “Get away from him”. Conrad turned around and started for Marty. As he got closer Marty pulled a binder from behind his back and hit Conrad in the face and then the gut knocking him down. “Freak” Conrad said as he got up and ran away. “Who are you?” Asked a relieved Cordell. “Call me Balance” Marty replied. “I’m a school hall superhero who punishes the bullies”.
