Aura Enigma
By Sofia Gutierrez
In the small town of Springfield, Massachusetts, a girl, and her father, both have monster traits and come from Transylvania, Romania, to live everyday life in a mundane world. Raven Ambrosia Blade is a casual gothic girl who speaks her mind, yet a secret that can only be discovered by her friends who survive the water portal of souls will prove they are loyal to her. She is a logically intelligent girl in high school aged 16 years old. She had been homeschooled her whole life by her grandmother. Her mother abandoned her at birth, not ever to be seen again. She carries her blue crab necklet from her mother as a valuable treasure. She always said, foreseeable wonder is better left unsaid; experience your judgment of others. Her happiest memory with her father was getting her very first camera on her 9th birthday. Her worst memory was when Raven and her father got attacked by shadowed men, almost killing her father. Until she fought them off, ending with scars across her eyes. If she were to die, she would be happy with the memories she had lived with her father. Raven would envision living with her father in a castle in Transylvania, Romania, working as a Horror photographer, taking photos of abandoned locations, and being a mystery crime solver by night
Chapter 1: Exegesis
Blood Insanity by Haunted Sharptails playing in the background, she walked to the left side of her room, toward a blue bubble on the green scale wall, looking at herself. She saw a beautiful tan girl with fiery scarred eyes, a plum nose, rosy full lips, small sword-shaped ears, and aquamarine-black hair. She brushes her hair while touching one of her scars.
She questions whether she is ever going to make friends by the way she looks, but no answer can be said. She stays with the answer, knowing that one day someone entering the water portal, and survive will be the true one for her. Wearing a blue floral lace blouse, leather pants, and black velvet boots. The blouse fitting just right around her curves which many envy. She applies dark black-reddish lipstick with natural looking makeup.
Her father, Spike Blade, calls from downstairs, “Raven Ambrosia Blade, come down now, or you are going to be late for your first day of school”.
Spike Blade has sword-shaped ears, thin lips, and a black mohawk. He is tall, tan, and handsome. Spike is a famous journalist and owner of the Creepin Radicals, a newspaper company.
“I will be down in a minute, father. I just need one more thing to complete my look,”
In her room, Raven searches for her favorite perfume imported from Transylvania, burnt wooden fire vanilla. Her perfume is located on the black dresser styled with spiderwebs next to the poster of Haunted Sharptails, the rock band of the underworld. She walks pass her royal blue waterbed, towards the dresser. She puts on her blue crab necklet and sprays on the wooden fire vanilla. Holding her necklet tightly to her chest, Raven prays for her mother to return one day and for good luck in school. The necklet given to her by her mother at birth. Her mother abandoned her at birth. Only her father by her side for support is seemingly enough throughout her life. Raven Ambrosia finished getting ready for school and started walking downstairs. A gray kitchen with white cabinets, a silver refrigerator with a water dispenser, and a wooden floor greets her as she comes into the room.
“Good Marrow Father, what is for breakfast, the bloodshot pie or the neon brand cereal”
“I thought a mix of bloodshot pie mixed with whip mousse, a little change from the usual.”
Spike places the plates on the table. He serves the bloodshot pie with a drop of mousse. Raven walks towards the fridge. She grabs the orange juice and walks over to the table.
“How did you sleep? Any gratifying nightmares to share with me? “
“ No father, the usuals of a baboon and snake adventuring causing spells against mundanes. My daily favorites. You know. I just had my mother appear in one of my dreams asking me to join the dark side for one. What does it mean for my mother to appear?”
“ Well I can’t say anything about her, she left a long time ago, not even a goodbye to be said. She was a mysterious woman who liked to keep things to herself."
“I know Father, I will be grateful for that. For instance, I am grateful for this bloodshot pie with whipped mousse. I guess also for going to school with regular mundane things.”
“Thank you, sweetie, better hurry up and finish up your pie. Don’t wanna be late for your first day. Change is good for everyone”
Raven Ambrosia and Spike finished eating breakfast and headed out of the house towards the car.
“Raven, do you have all your school supplies with you? Are you good to go?”
“Yes father, I do have everything with me. We can leave now.”
The car slowly exits the driveway.
“Are you excited for your first day at school, sweetie? You never know you might meet a true one on the first day”
“I don’t know, they might judge me for how I look. I don’t look like a mundane, to begin with”
“A true one will accept you for who you are not how you look. Don’t disgrace yourself for your looks. You look cool and are smart, any true one will like that about you. Understand!”
“Yes father, I am going to try to be the opposite of mysterious. In the end, I always speak my mind so I might make a friend who will be able to survive the water portal, to prove loyalty”.
Finally arriving at Morella Gray High School, a private school with a dragon mascot on the golden gates. The doors open when the camera recognizes Spike’s car. People walking around. A guy with dragon-shaped beat headphones enters the school. Raven says goodbye to her father and starts to walk inside the building.
Walking in, a hallway surrounded with silver, black, and gold school colors. Spirit flags with dragons, Morella High labeled in graduate font, hanging from the ceiling. Black and silver lockers, golden colored walls. She notices regular distinct people parted on two sides of the hallway. The people stare with curiosity and oddly up-and-down. The whispers fill the air.
“Who is that?” A girl with glasses says, walking down the hall.
Why does she look like that?’ A cheerleader mentions to her friends,
“ Is she new? I have never seen her before”. A baseball player says to his buddies.
“She looks so cool.” A musician says with admiration.
A football player makes his way through the hallway, bumping into Raven, giggling. Raven is stunned, not knowing what to do at that moment.
Raven looks around at the people. People stare back in a watching manner. She slowly starts to look down walking towards the bathroom. Entering the bathroom, she hides in the black concrete stall, breathing in-and-out to calm her nerves. Feeling anxious, Raven sings a song, and she starts to feel a little better.
‘Magical, special one, no nerves allowed here. Turn the tables around, Eyes of Fiery. Close your eyes when in trouble. Hum to this song’
She gets relieved, a mystery song she remembers blankly from her childhood. She always thinks about the words that tell her to sing the song.
‘Dear, when you feel any emotion to burst, sing, sing, sing, this song. Got it, no negative emotion should come out of you’
Raven can't recall where she heard it.
Her backpack contains a schedule of her classes, which Raven takes from her bag. Her first American Literature class is taught by professor Alaster Prime in room 102. She waits a little bit, looking at herself in the mirror. She feels her scars.
Raven talks to her reflection: ‘impossible is possible, you totally got this.’
Leaving the bathroom, Raven looks at her schedule. She starts to walk around looking for the American Literature class. Not noticing where she is going. She bumps into someone. A Boy, medium-light skinned with green eyes, a plum nose, thin lips, and ginger-colored hair.
Wearing a black haunted sharptails band tee, ripped black jeans, and jordanos, he had a gothic musician style. He gazes at her mysteriously. Raven apologizes for bumping into him. She becomes nervous around Vesper.
With her different features, he found her fascinating.
Vesper stayed stunned looking at Raven in her eyes.
Raven looks down, planning to slowly walk away.
“Excuse me, are you okay? Who are you? What is your name? If I may ask?
Raven blushes.
“ Huh, yeah I’m okay. I am new here, I just moved here. My name is Raven. I have to go. I gotta go to class. Bye.”
“Raven, a pleasure to meet you. A wonderful welcome to Springfield, Massachusetts. Where are you from?”
“Uh Thank you. Trannsylvania, Romania.”
“What class do you have now, maybe we have a class together. you are new here so I can help you get there.”
Raven gets surprised by Vesper’s kindness. Wondering if all people are like him.
Vesper stays curiously looking at Raven.
“American Literature, with professor Alaster Primer in room 102. I was going to ask a teacher for help.”
“ I know where that is. If you need help just ask. Especially me, I would be glad to help you. I have modern music 101 with professor Heath Radcliffer, right near your class. My name is Vesper Halis by the way.”
“Thanks. Vesper, nice to meet you.”
Raven smiles looking down.
Vesper was curiously fascinated with Raven’s reaction. Raven and Vesper head to class together, remaining quiet. They make it through the hallway, and Vesper is showing Raven around near their classes. They finally reach their classrooms.
“Good luck on your first day. Do you think you will be fine looking for your classes?’
“ I think so.”
“If you need help, just look for me. If not, see you later.”
Raven smiles, nodding her head as a yes, staying quiet. Raven walks away, having butterflies in her stomach. She smirks looking down. She feels like she can have a good first day. Raven thinks that maybe mundanes are not that bad.
Chapter 2: Mean Girl Meeting
She enters her American Literature class. The classroom filled with posters of literature authors, big windows, a chalkboard, lorell desks. She doesn’t look around just until seeing an empty desk in front of the classroom.
Everyone in the background is whispering, throwing paper balls around.
She sits in the first empty desk and starts to doodle.
Football players sitting in the back, speak to each other.
“Hey bro, who is that chick?”
“I don’t know but she looks strange, what kind of girl has sword-shaped ears? She has scars on her eyes. She kind of looks like a monster.”
“A hot monster, she's kinda hot”
A girl comes in to see Raven sitting in a seat that she will claim as hers. The girl has ivory pale skin, purple eyes, and a lifted nose, medium lips, a brunette with highlights. Wears light, bright colors in a fashionable sense. The girl stands in power in front of Raven.
‘Hey freak, I think you ended up at the wrong school. This here is my seat, my school! So move it or you will scoot it!
Raven was shocked by this girl's attitude. Raven stands up.
‘ I didn’t know schools or material items had disrespectful rulers, I had been told this school had a principal as a leader. I saw this desk was empty, so I am sorry I didn’t mean to take your seat.’
Raven moves to a different seat on the other side of the class without letting the mean girl finish.
The mean girl gets angry and stomps her foot, she cannot believe Raven didn’t let her finish
Mr. Prime enters the classroom and greets the students on the first day of school. He states the objective of the class. Mr. Prime brings a pre-pop quiz to see what students will know about literature.
Raven feels confident about the school year and what her father taught her.
The dismissal bell rings. Class dismissed. The mean girl stomps on Raven’s foot making her drop her books.
‘Monster Freak, next time think twice before you speak up to me.’
The mean girl joins her friends. Everyone gasps at what just happened.
Raven sits on the floor in pain, picking up her books. Mr. Prime helps Raven from the floor.
‘Are you okay Ms. Blade? Do you need to go to the nurse's office?’
‘What is a nurse's office? I know when I get hurt I go to the curator's office.’
‘A curator and nurses' offices are the same thing, just differently used. Do you need to go? Did you accidentally fall?’
‘I think so, I might need some ice on it. I did fall, I didn’t see where I was going. Do you know where it is?’
‘Be more careful now. No accidents are needed in your first school year. Exit the class to left down the hall’
Raven gallops on one knee down the hall to the nurse's office. The nurse greets her and places ice on Raven’s ankle. As Raven holds on to her crab necklet, she holds in tears that want to come back. A while passes, and Raven feels much better from her ankle.
She walks out, heading to her next class.
She thinks; “What does that mean girl’s problem, I didn’t even do anything to her.”
Raven is walking out of the office by the mean girls. The primary mean girl makes her way to Raven along with her friends. One of the mean girl’s friends tells her that it isn't a good idea to pick on her.
‘Shut Up, She is a monster freak, girls that look like her deserve to be thrown out. No freaks will be allowed in my school.’
The mean girl confronts Raven. The mean girl jokes about Raven looking like a monster freak. Raven attempts to ignore her, slowly galloping away. Thana will not stand for it, having no last word said.
‘Oh no monster freak, you will continue to leave me with the last word. Hear me clearly, I rule this school. Thana, your leader, your commander.’
Thana pushes Raven Ambrosia against the lockers. She screams at Raven, having the final word. Thana and her girls walk away, laughing. Raven lets out one tear, slides down from the lockers, and puts her head into her legs.
Raven doesn’t know what to feel, so she decides to walk out on her first day of school.
Raven is at home. She calls the other person who makes her feel safe. Her grandmother Amphibia Blade. Raven discusses the situation with Thana and whether it is a mistake to come to Springfield, Massachusetts. Amphibia tells in the world of mundanes, there will be some evil people that are normal. She reassures Raven not to give up on school just because of one mean girl.
Raven feels a little confident confessing the situation to her grandmother.
Raven doesn’t want to mention the situation to her father. Raven will pretend the situation didn’t happen, and she skips the rest of the day. She plans to go to the park instead to get her mind off the situation. Raven grabs her camera and the keys to the motorcycle. She enjoys the joy ride toward an abandoned graveyard park. Raven evaluates the situation of the two people she met today so far. Raven thinks to herself.
‘I don’t know who to trust anymore. Thana the evil witch or Vesper the sweet boy. These too show different sides of good and evil.’
Raven cannot figure out what's true in herself to trust and get out of her comfort zone. She finds a good spot to take some good horror shots. A grave with the initials of C. L. Howler, dead roses surrounding, and a white candle that not been litted in years. Raven walks back to the motorcycle. She decides to spend the rest of the day going for a long joy ride.
She goes through the whole city and rides on to the next. Her father comes home to see the motorcycle missing. So he becomes worried about whether someone stole the motorcycle. He doubts that Raven could have taken it. Various Hours pass on by. Rain pours down, and Raven makes her way home before getting too wet. Once getting home, she sees her father’s car in the driveway. Entering the house, Spike asks Raven if she knows anything about the motorcycle missing. She just doesn’t say a word, only walks to her room without eating. Spike checks up on Raven and she demands to be left alone. Spike tells her that they will discuss about it in the morning. Raven puts on the rusted diamond by haunted sharptails. She lays on the bed upside down. She places her face against the pillow, hitting the bed. She attempts to go to sleep and hopefully forgets the situation with Thana.
Chapter 3; The Brief
Morning arrives, and Raven gets ready for school. She puts on a silver plaid dress that gives her curves a nice touch. She decides to go to school without makeup. She speaks to Spike, He raises his voice to ask why she took the motorcycle without his consent. She understands he is mad about the motorcycle. She addressed that she didn’t have a good first day and needed to get out of school to clear her mind. He was mad but took a deep breath to say that he understands the situation. He tells her next time if she needs to clear her mind, to ask first.
‘Sweetheart, don’t let others get you down. You are smarter than those losers. People who want to make you feel bad are jealous of you. Since you are different.”
By his comment, Raven smiles and they leave.
At school, Raven doesn’t look up going inside until a familiar face says hi. Vesper comes over to see why Raven is all alone.
‘Hey Raven, why the glum look, little fairy? Did any of these losers make you upset? I forgot to ask if you want to be friends? I would love it if you could. I understand you are new and all.’
A speechless Raven smiles yes looking down. Vesper pulls Raven's face upward to look into her eyes. Raven and Vesper ignite a spark. Raven drops her things. Raven breaks the moment by saying yes in a nervous manner. Vesper smiles and picks up Raven’s book off the floor. During the walk to her first class, Vesper talks about what life is like in the city. Everyone around is surprised that Raven and Vesper are together. Vesper asks if they can hang out after school to get to know each other.
‘Listen, I don't think that is a good idea, since I don’t know you. I just met you.’
‘ That is why I want to get to know you better.’
‘I appreciate the gesture, but I'd rather remain friends at school please.’
‘ Can I ask why?’
She claims that she cannot explain the reason for her hesitation
He doesn’t push her to say what she does not what to talk about. He tells her that he respects her decision of keeping everything to herself. Raven is speechless with Vesper’s words. She tells him that she cannot trust anyone at the moment. He assures that he will be friend to her if she needs it. Thana enters the school with her clueless friends. She sees Vesper talking to Raven. She doesn’t like this at all. She walks up to them to divide them apart. Thana tells Vesper that he shouldn’t be hanging with Raven. Vesper defends her. Raven can’t take this, so she starts to walk away. Vesper grabs her hand in order not to leave. Raven looks back to see Vesper. Raven decides to stay with Vesper. Thana feels insulted and walks away. Raven cannot believe what just happened.
‘You see little fairy, I am not a bad guy. I honestly want to be your friend. I am not going to bite’
Raven genuinely smiles with her fiery eyes sparkling. Raven agrees to be friends with Vesper. They walk to class together, and she mentions she noticed he is a fan of haunted sharptails. They talk the entire time about music. Meanwhile, Thana is walking to class and talks to her friends.
‘I cannot believe that just happened, Vesper defended that monster freak. What does he even see in her seriously? She looks like a monster. But she will pay for this. I will make sure of it.’
Thana's friend wonders why she picks on Raven. Thana tells them she cannot stand that Raven has taken all the attention. Thana gets pissed off, stating her story about how she always gets attention around since she was little. Thana tells them she is the prettiest girl in school. Raven and Vesper continue walking together, having a good time. They reached the class and said see you later. Raven breathes in with butterflies in her stomach. The school day comes to an end. Raven walks out to see Spike stationed outside. He asks how her day was today. She surprises him with a smile on her face.
"So I am guessing today was a good day because of that smile. I love seeing you smile rather than upset. Can I know what brought you to smile?’
Raven explains that the day is better due to meeting Vesper today. She explains with further detail how sweet and cute he is. Spike smiles to see Raven all happy.
‘Sweetheart, I wish I could see you like this all the time. Be careful with knowing who to trust, remember. But if this boy makes you feel better, then go for it’
‘Yes Father, He is just a friend for now. I know but what I need right now is a friend.’
They drive home. Spike goes directly to the kitchen to cook dinner. Raven heads to the bedroom to drop off her stuff. She walks over to the blue bubble. She stares at her reflection and smiles while feeling her scars. She has a flashback. Raven without scars, 8 years old playing with a bouncy ball in the woods outside the castle with her father. Raven throws the ball high, landing across the woods. Spike runs over to go get it. Raven plays with a broken branch, pretending to be a wizard. Spike screams. Raven drops the branch and runs through the woods looking for Spike. Raven reaches an empty ditch with a lighting fire, she sees her father getting attacked by 5 evil masked men.
‘You better give everything that you got or we will kill you and your family. You stepped into the wrong ditch’
Raven sits with rage and sits in peace to unleash her inner power. She gets up to walk out from hiding.
‘Stop, let my father go! You guys will regret it.’
‘Raven get out of here, I was about to hand them everything.’
‘So I see you have a beautiful daughter who needs to learn a lesson.’
One of the evil men takes hold of Raven. Raven starts singing to keep calm. The man tells her to shut up and starts to attack her. The man takes out his dagger knife and drives it across both her eyes. She screams from the pain. Her eyes cry out blood.
Raven kicks the guy in the crouch and she sings again louder. Raven rises up in the air and unleashes her karate skills. The evil man gets up from the ground. Raven kicks their butt. Raven fights off every man. The men try to attack back, failing to do so. The man holding Spike, lets him go. He attempts to make a run for it, but Raven knocks him unconsciously. She successfully saves Spike and runs over to hug him. Spike touches Raven’s eyes to see them bleeding.
‘Let's get you to a hospital. Sweetie, you saved me, I always knew you were special.’
‘Yes, I have a magical power from what you taught me. I am okay?’
Spike and Raven walk out of the woods together.
‘ Father, mundanes are bad people who shouldn’t be trusted’
‘Yes, there are some bad mundanes in the world, you can only trust a person if they pass a loyalty test inside the water portal of souls ‘
‘Yes Father’
Raven returns her mind to the present time. She realizes she might feel like she is falling for Vesper, she cannot forget the trust loyalty test.
She feels a spark of confidence with Vesper being accepting of her. She heads down for dinner. Spike made his famous clam chowder with shreds of mint. Spike and Raven talk about a brand new section in the newspaper he is introducing. Raven asks Spike if she can include one of her photos in the newspaper. “He agrees in the next edition of abandoned locations”. They discuss about Raven’s crush. He gives her advice of getting to know him. They finish dinner, Spike puts the dishes away. Raven goes to bed.
Chapter 4; The Heart
The next day, Raven is having a dream. 5 years later, she finished her career as a horror photographer and mystery crime solver by night. Raven is living back in Transylvania happily in her childhood home with Vesper, 5 dogs and Spike. She trusted Vesper enough not to make him go through the loyalty test. Vesper and Raven walk on the terrace and look out to admire their happiness. The water portal appears in front of Raven . Sounds of Whispers speaking.
“Vesper didn’t complete the loyalty test”
‘He might be a fake person’
‘He could be using you’
Thana appears angry with red fiery highlights, screaming out’
‘Vesper is mine, he has been pretending to be nice to you since I told him to. Monster Freak! No one will like you for your weirdness.’
Raven defends Vesper with her full trust in him.
‘You cannot trust without the loyalty test.’
Vesper reveals his evil face. Spike tells Raven he told thatVesper was fake. She screams.
‘No don’t say that! Please Shut Up! I trust Vesper!
Raven is awoken by Spike. Spike questions if she had another dream about her mother. Raven clarifies her dream was about a personal nightmare about Vesper. Spike hugs her to calm her. Raven says she has not ever had a dream like this except for her dream of her mother in Transylvania.
‘Sweetie, you had an emotional warning to be careful with emotions. You shouldn’t be afraid of the loyalty test. Vesper will not die. If he is true, he will pass the test.’
‘I understand Father’
Spike pinches Raven’s cheeks and tells her to get ready for school. He walks out of the room. She gets out the bed and walks over to the closet. She chooses a black sleeveless turtle-neck dress with leather boots. She decides to wear a little makeup. She exits the room, heading down for school. She asks Spike if she can take the motorcycle to school, he allows it for this once. She grabs a protein bar and heads down to the garage. She starts the motorcycle, driving off. At school, she pulls up and is seen by everyone. People gasp to find who is riding the motorcycle.
‘Who is that’
‘What a cool ride, nice color.’
Thana pushes everyone out of the way to see who is robbing the attention from her. Raven parks the bike, and takes her helmet off. People are surprised to see it is her.
‘Wow it’s you, Monster Freak, she thinks she is cool because of the bike. Whose bike did you steal’
‘No one’s, this is my father’s. You jealous evil witch.’
Raven pushes Thana aside, not caring for her. . Everyone laughs at Thana, thinking Raven is cool. Entering the school, Vesper walks over to Raven.
‘How is my little fairy doing today?’
‘I am doing good, thanks.’
Vesper smiles at her. They conversed about their favorite tv shows. Over the announcements, they say there will be an assembly about a special comedian guest that came to the school. Also the assembly will take over the school day.
They walk towards the auditorium. Raven feels butterflies in her stomach again. She drifts her mind thinking that she can trust Vesper while he speaks’
Vesper asks if she is okay. She nods. They enter the auditorium. They sit towards the back of the bleachers. Everyone is involved in their own side conversations. Someone in the background says, sitting next to Vesper and Raven.
‘Let's hope, this guy is funny.’
The comedian tells a solid joke about a horse on roller skates. Everyone laughs. The comedian continues with jokes about growing with teenagers and their rebellion. The Assembly ends. Vesper makes a joke about the comedian being stinky to get his jokes. Raven giggles. The school ends with a half day, Vesper and Raven exit the school. Vesper escorts Raven to her ride.
‘Nice ride, is this here yours?’
‘Yes, well actually my father’s.’
‘You wouldn’t mind giving me a ride on this beast?’
Raven hesitates for a minute. Vesper does his puppy dog eyes, and says a sarcastic joke to change her mind. Raven decides to let her guard down, and says yes. She tells him to hop on and hold on tight. Vesper and Raven ride off from school. Vesper mentions a great place to go to cool the mind. ‘Bangin it up by Haunted Sharptails’ plays in the background. Enjoying the joy ride, Raven speeds up in the streets making Vesper hold on tighter. He screams in joy. Coming across an abandoned woods, Vesper points ahead to continue the path, They stop by a hidden rotten shed. Raven parks the bike. Raven hears the screams of her father to leave from her flashback. She wanders towards the inside of the shed, pictures her father grabbed by those evil men. Vesper follows her. He notices she is deep thought.
‘ Are you okay?’
Raven snaps back into reality. She looks at him smiling and nods yes. She asks him why he chose this place. He states it is his thinking place to go when he feels lost.
‘I just write music sometimes when I need solitude.’
Raven nods again. Vesper questions Raven about what she does when she needs to think.
‘Besides going for a joy ride, I would enjoy sitting out in the backyard of my home.’
Raven and Vesper enter the abandoned shed. Vesper says he has always been curious about the legend of the shed. The Shed contains a story about a Man named Faye who went crazy looking for ghosts and died. Inside the shed, spiderwebs hanging, disturbing photographs of bloody animal scenes, and foggy graveyards posted against the wall. Raven admires the quality of the photographs. Raven and Vesper exit, finding a smooth place to sit. They find a comfy log, and converse about their life goals. Raven mentions her dreams about being horror photographer and Crime Solver by night. Vesper says he wants to create a new type of rock using rocks and humming. The conversation is getting deeper into a point of secrets. Vesper starts off with a deep secret of staying in prison to visit sometimes, getting a hardcore perspective of his music. He asks what her secret is. She tells him that she was homeschooled, never involved with society after getting her scars. Vesper is eager to know about her background, he asks another question. Raven begins talking the life in Transylvania, her family, her mother not existing in her life, no friends, and her insecurities. Vesper gets stunned by everything.
‘ I want to let you know you are not a monster. You are beautiful with unique features. You got a confidant friend in me.’
Vesper talks his life and deeper secrets to make Raven comfortable.
Hours pass by, their conversations become more meaningful. Raven decides to fully trust Vesper. She tells him about the water portal loyalty test and the aftermath of being true or not. Vesper is slowly processing what he just heard. He stands alone in the shed for a few moments.
Raven questions herself whether it was good day to tell Vesper the truth. Vesper doesn’t think that is a good idea to do the test knowing it will be dangerous. She assures him that is the only way that they can continue to be friends.
‘Listen, little fairy, I would love to be best friends with you, but do you know what you are asking me. You are wonderful. But can’t we just take time to meet each other instead.”
She tells him that their no way that can happen like that. He decides that he wants to think about it. She accepts his decision but that time is short for water portal is limited.
Sun is starting to set. They start heading back. Raven drops off Vesper at his house. Raven arrives at home to tell Spike.
Chapter 5; Epilogue
Next Day, Raven is getting ready for school. She chooses to wear a blue silver silk blouse with a black skirt, and tennis shoes. She decides to skip breakfast except for grabbing an energy drink. Raven asks Spike again to ride the bike, She promised it still has a full tank. Spike sighs no at first then moves his head as yes. He decides to please her again. Spike smiles and waves goodbye. Raven grabs her necklet hopefully of Vesper. She runs out the door and rides the motorcycle to school. Arriving at School, Raven parks the motorcycle. She walks inside, heading over to the bathroom. She looks at herself in the mirror, smiling. Fixing her hair. Thana walks in, She locks the door. She plans on getting her revenge.
‘Oh look what we got here, you creepy, freaky monster. Go home or you will scare the others in the school. Like I said before you don’t belong here.’
Raven defends herself by not caring what Thana says.
‘Oh really, you think you are so cool just because of the bike and one boy talking to you. How pity. You should know the cute boy you were with is a player. No one is disgusted enough to want to talk to you.’
Raven ignores Thana, she attempts to open the door. Thana pulls Raven by the hair.
‘Oh no, you will not ignore me, you freak.’
Thana pushes Raven against the stalls. Raven attempts to handle things with Thana in a civilized way. Thana slaps Raven across the face and starts a fight with her. Raven pushes Thana away, walking towards the door. Thana again grabs Raven by the hair and pushes her against the stall Raven lands on the floor. She hurts her head. Raven has had enough, she clunches her fist and crosses her legs. . She sings a song melody and gets up from the floor. Thana awaits for Raven to fight back.
‘Come on coward, instead of singing.’
Raven punches Thana in the face making her land on the floor. Thana starts crying about her jawline hurting.
‘Leave me alone, or there will be more from where that came from. Understand.’
Thana assures Raven, She will no longer bother her.
Raven cannot believe she just did that. She runs out of the bathroom to leave school. She bumps into Vesper.
‘Hey, little fairy, what is going on? Why are you running?’
Raven tells Vesper what just happened in the bathroom with Thana. Vesper hugs Raven. She says she wants to leave school, and just leave to a secret place. He agrees. They walk out. Vesper tells Raven that he is ready to take the loyalty test. They ride off to an abandoned graveyard. Once arriving, Raven asks if Vesper is sure for the last time. He eagerly nods. Raven sings a magic song of mortality to summon the portal. A dark royal blue swirl with teardrops floating around appear in mid air. She warns him to prove he is true, he must show his real sides to the judging water souls.
‘If you lie or attempt to change your answer, the souls will know. Good luck.’
‘He smiles and enters the portal. A blue colored empty space with only a light blue water soul to appear in front of Vesper. Vesper gets questioned why he entered by the water souls. In response to Vesper's question about why he entered the portal, He admits he likes Raven and wants to prove he is loyal. A water wall passes Vesper, scanning him to notice whether Vesper is telling the truth. The water souls warn what will happen if he fails the test and the levels of the test will start to get harder. He enters the first realm. A high mountain on top of a waterfall, fog surrounding the air, a thin rope bridge of patience to cross of. Vesper instantly hums a rock rhythm that brings him peace. He closes his eyes, starts to cross the long bridge without thinking of looking down. He makes it across. Once passing the first part of the test, he enters a forcefield, taking him to the next part of the test. A glass room where you can see your young self, 3 black doors that look the same. Vesper must pick between mystery doors of survival. The doors contain a fire breathing shark, heated iron spikes, and sticky spiderwebs. Vesper thinks for an instant of a riddle he heard once about 3 doors. The riddle had said the 3rd door will always be your savior. Vesper passes the second round with choosing the 3rd door, he managed to carry a pocket knife in his pocket. So Vesper cuts through the webs. He makes it through 2nd part of the test. He enters a realm surrounded with lava rocks, sharp thorns, spikey rocks, and a white circle where he is supposed to step on. The challenge will start getting harder with an obstacle of life and death. The final test relies on fighting dinosaur with a long neck that tells lies, pretending to be nice. Vesper was close to believing the dinosaur until the dinosaur says something about Raven. The dinosaur almost crushes Vesper with his legs. Vesper reacts and gets the nearest sharp object and kills the dinosaur. Vesper trusted his gut about Raven. The test results with Verper’s worthiness. The water souls congratulate him for succeeding in the test and he is told he may exit the portal. Vesper leaves the doorway with a water ring over his head. Raven walks over and hugs him.
‘You were true always, I couldn’t be happier than ever.
‘Yes, my little fairy, now you don’t have to worry about ever thinking you are alone in this world.’
She decides to invite him over to her house.
‘For the moment, I think we should stay best friends, over time we should decide if we can be more than friends. Is that ok.’
‘ We have our own lives ahead of us. So don’t worry.’
They walk back to the motorcycle. Raven plans to introduce Spike to Vesper. She touches her scars and smiles. Vesper assures Raven that she is beautiful and kisses her on the cheek. They ride away
