An Unlikely Hero
The superpower my son gained from brotherly love

Little Mighty Hemoglobin's origin story started simply enough with his birth and that was full of excitement, he was boy number three, but his vulnerability was soon revealed during some simple procedures all boys have done shortly after birth.
Our little guy has a unique weakness, he has what is called Hemophilia, which is the body's inability to clot during any type of bleed. Little did we know, that this would become his greatest strength, and would develop new abilities into our family in the most unexpected ways.
Our home needed to be hemophilia-proofed, and what that involves is padding every corner and edge of the house with something soft.
Brothers are rough with each other, it is their nature, but a level of care and respect followed in every interaction.
They also did not try to treat him any differently. He is an equal in their eyes.
For much of "little hemoglobins" early years, it was required he wear a soft helmet on his head to protect him from falls. This was hard because it turned heads and generated questions from people in the world around him.
One day his older brothers made the observation that his new helmet looked like the one Captain America would wear. This was such a wonderful boost of encouragement to him.
So from that day forward, they became the Avengers, and the following photo was taken. I took this picture and I love it dearly.

Love is a powerful superpower, brotherly love is a superpower all on its own. I never had brothers, but I am raising 3 boys who each have their own amazing super abilities. Their care for the youngest is unmatched. As a family, an unfortunate genetic defect designed to weaken the body has only made us all strong.
